Gunmen Storm Minna Prison | Free 270 Inmates
Unidentified gunmen attacked the Nigerian Medium Prisons located in the Tunga area of Minna, Niger State on Saturday evening.
They killed one individual and freed 270 inmates, New Telegraph reports.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the gunmen were dressed in police bullet-proof uniforms, and shot sporadically at people around David Mark Road in Tunga, as they approached the prison. They also reportedly shot the prison wardens on duty, and aided the prisoners’ escape.
Police Public Relations Officer in Niger State, Gambari Ibrahim Gambari, says some arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.
This is the second jail break that has occurred in Nigeria within one week. You will recall that prisoners also escaped from Ekiti prison recently.
