On Sunday, while the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards were underway in London and stars got ready for the Grammys in the United States of America, award winning drama, Selma was being premiered for the first time in Africa at the Rock Cathedral, Lagos.
The Nigerian premiere of the movie Selma was highly anticipated and was a flawless event as it held on Sunday, 8 February, 2015.
The movie premiere was hosted by the House on the Rock Church in collaboration with the US Consulate.

The event was in three phases starting from the Red Carpet to a Press Conference and then the movie screening.
Speaking at the event, the Snr. Pastor of House on The Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin echoed the sentiments of the #United4Peace initiative “…the interests of Nigeria cannot be determined along religious lines nor according to political, ethnic or social indices alone. The tragic events in parts of this country are a harsh reminder that dialogue, peace and religious tolerance are crucial to our continued co-existence.”

U.S Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, reiterated Adefarasin and added that the United4Peace initiative and movie premiere are timely to reflect on Dr. King’s life as Nigerians prepare to go to the polls next month

David Oyelowo says he would be happy to see a Nigeria that works in diversity. He also let everyone know that he was proudly Nigerian with his Father and mother being from Oyo and Edo states respectively
The presence of the lead actor and actress of the highly acclaimed movie, David Oyelowo and Carmen Ejogo who played Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Corretta Scott King respectively, added to the excitement of the day. Both actors patiently answered questions from the press, took fan photos and had a really nice time. David Oyelowo’s wife could be seen lugging a camera, taking in the experience as much as she could.
