D’banj’s Official Producer calls Olamide out for Stealing their Song Ideas

Adesola Ade-Unuigbe

Official producer for the DB Records group, DeeVee, has called Olamide out for allegedly stealing song ideas from them whenever he comes to their studio to visit.

According to DeeVee, Olamide has stolen slangs like “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth”, “Durosoke” and more.

DeeVee claims that most recently Olamide stole a line he featured on his ‘Don’t Stop’ track from an unreleased D’banj song called ‘Shake It’.

See his tweets below.

I guess, the songs and slangs are meant for olamide. The only song I know if D banj is “Oliver Twist”, which was decade ago. His whole persona of kokomaster is dead as well.

People will just be yanning rubbish? D’banj’s career is dead abi and yet he’s still on of the A list artist in Africa, getting endorsements.

As if Olamide is a genius. He steals all his ideas and dance steps from people. Cos he’s topping charts now that’s why much attention is on him. He’ll soon fade out

SO who is lying? why didn’t dbanj release this song before now? He could as well as stolen the line from olamide. Except both of them release time stamped videos of their studio sessions as evidence, deevee should go and sit down somewhere.

It’s lack of skills to claim someone stole your idea which is just a slang or street word. You hear street word everywhere and there’s nothing calling intellectual property to a street word. Nobody claimed ownership for Shoki, Azonto, Alanta, even Gerra re re eh and all that. So why are you ranting on this, it shows lack of progress.

Though I’m not really feeling D’Banj’s ‘Shake It’ and it seems the YBNL head honcho made better use of the lines in dispute, Olamide’s ‘Don’t Stop’ clearly features phrases in very unlikely coincidental sequence that are same as Eja Nla’s. This alone, if it can be substantiated, constitutes an infringement and it is waaay beyond street slang(s) which could be argued to be in free domain for anyone to use.

If this is true and Olamide did this for real, then it is not okay. I cannot even begin to get why almost everyone here thinks this is okay because Olamide is the more relevant party right now. Such BS. IT IS NOT OKAY TO STEAL SOMEONE ELSE’S WORK no matter the situation. Jeez, na wa o. Get brain, people!

Alot of Nigerians not just Olamide, do this thing o! They come to your office/house to pick your brain and steal your ideas just because they have opportunity and money to carry out the crime. Trust me I know coz I’m in the Creative industry. Its good he got called out. At least he will think twice before stealing. Yeye!

Embrassing. You have gone past this level. Dbanj music has been trash since the split. No hits no nothing.

    December 5, 2015 at 12:04 pm

Lol! Deevee gerrahere!!! Durella and his team accused D’banj of the same thing and more. Apparently D’banj copied Durella’s persona, music style and blah. I supported D’banj then, D’banj did Durella better than Durella. Olamide does D’banj slangs better than D’banj. We all know Baddo steals people’s content all the time, and he sells it better. It’s not that serious joor!

  22. The Truth

    December 5, 2015 at 7:00 pm

Why most ppl here comment like what the Yorubas would call ” ota ajé ” . its been a big disease / trends in naija recently to not care what the truth is… very selfish and foolish i would say. if he makes no hit does that mean soomebody else can steal from his hardwork ? u ugly doesnt mean u deserve no woman or man.
Lets be meaningful! cheap internet don’t give u any confidence to say nonsense because u dont care. see the state of Nigeria today, its because ppl dont care and selfish and foolish.
you don’t have to like the truth just know!

There is no smoke without fire…. If Olamide is stealing their song ideas then they should stop sharing it with him or avoid inviting him to their studio sessions unless there is a collaboration.

Shoki was sang by two different musicians – Lil Kesh and Orezi….. meaning you can still sing about slangs that has been used..

On a lighter note, if you listen to Ludacris Money maker, you will find it took your mama 9months to make it…

    December 6, 2015 at 11:00 am

That is why I don’t do lyrical sessions with anyone except ready to record I used to freestyle on Instagram had to stop cause I attended open mic and the artist there was singing my freestyle

It happens even fake friends come close to steal ideas for shows and business ideas but the key to spotting these kind of people is there is never a follow up and they are often violent emotionally in order to get what they want

The truth is people lack creativity nowadays excessive drinking and smoking not sure if baddo stole the idea but karma always has away of getting back at those who steal from you

One producer I worked with wanted to sell the same song to another artist even after recording the song with me I walked out on the them one night the producer deleted the song off my laptop not knowing o released the song in my album a month before Kpele o

Deevee should be ashamed of himself, just heard dbanj’s own version….dbanj seriously needs a good producer, Olamide’s own sounds better

    December 8, 2015 at 2:44 pm

what d f- is Dbanj singing that some1 wud want 2 steal a song frm him?? lol

  27. J.j

    December 10, 2015 at 11:29 am

My own little contribution to all this nonsense is that both of them ( olamide and D’banji ) are making noise because as far as music is concern copying Just slangs is not a crime and that doesn’t mean someone copied your music…….So if both of them are tired, they should give way for the upcoming artiste to come in….NONSENSE!
