Uju Chukwu: Let Your Dreams Breathe

More often than not we tend to stifle our dreams for the fear of what the future holds. We definitely all have dreams: to be a musician, to be a professional artist, to be the best in our career and lots more, but then what have we done to our dreams?

More often than not we tend to suffocate our dreams because of some factors which include:

Fear of failure
Most times we tend to suffocate our dreams because we have the fear of when will my dream start paying well? What if I invest so much and money into it and it does not end up where I want to be? We are displaced because of the fear of what tomorrow has to offer; but then I ask you, did you know what today was going to be like? Why believe you can be in control of tomorrow? The best you can do is put in your very best today and leave tomorrow to handle itself.

The merriness of our comfort zone
Where we are now might just be that place where we earn the highest paying salary. Where living a luxury life is just a click away and then you know what you know your dreams are calling on you, but then you tell yourself: why do I have to leave this life of comfort and go in pursuit of what might take me years to achieve and discomfort? Remember if you do not start living your dreams, you will forever be helping another to achieve theirs. That’s not bad though, but that is not what you were designed for.

The scare of the voice in our head asking us “what if”
To live for you, there must be ‘what ifs’. What situation of your life have you not asked yourself “what if”? In relationship “what if he/she is not the one for me”? There must be ‘what if’, but everyone who has achieved in life has successfully fought with ‘what ifs’ and given their dream a try.

What must we do to let our dreams breathe?

Believe in them
If you do not believe in something you would not even want to take second stare at it. So if you must let your dreams out, you must believe in every bit of it. Believe that tomorrow has just got to be better. Believe that you can achieve even more and the whole world will believe in you.

More often than not, I advise people to write what they want to achieve and put it everywhere they can set their eyes on it, because the more they see it, the more they believe. Is it doable? Oh yes it is.

Get out of your comfort zone
I do not say this calmly, get up and out of your comfort zone and make that dream a reality. If you keep feeling relaxed in the comfort zone created for you by someone, the seat could be dragged off of you and you will fall to the floor. Get off that zone and start living your dreams.

Open the windows to opportunity
How does this work? Let your attitude be in the right place. If you need to open up and be a little friendly, try that. Your dream is for the world and not for you. So let people know what you have on your inside, do not store it.

Take action
You have a million dollar dreams and ideas, but then we speak with our mouths and our actions are completely different. Let’s do less talking and more acting.

Above all, believe in yourself
If you do not believe in yourself you cannot achieve that which you have on your inside. People who have made it are not any stronger than you. Stretch yourself, challenge who you are; that is the only way to get the best out of your person. Do not let the discouragement and disappointments of the past, hold you from achieving the future. The past cannot be corrected, but there is room to avoid them in the future. People might discourage you, because no one knows how great your dream is, it is your role to prove to all.

Most times our dreams do not fit into the size of our body and that is simply explained because our dreams are supposed to grow with us, do not bury it at its toddler stage due to fear and the likes.
If you are not living your dream, you are doing a disservice to your mission and to the world.
