Following the cancellation of elections in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Bayelsa State Governorship which took place on Saturday, December 5 2015, inconclusive.

INEC reps said “glaring cases of electoral malpractices characterized by ballot snatching and thuggery.”

Prior to the inconclusive declaration, INEC had announced results of seven Local Government Areas out of the eight in the state.

Based on the announcement, the incumbent Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had won in six out of the seven Local Government results declared by INEC. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Timipre Sylva had won in just one LGA.

A date will be announced for the new election.
