132 VVF Patients receive Free Treatment in Kano State
The Kano State Government says it has empowered 132 Vesico-vaginal fistula (VVF) patients, treated at the Kwalli VVF Centre, Kano.
Hajiya Zubaida Abubakar, Kano State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, stated this on Friday in Kano, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Abubakar said the state government in collaboration with the United Nations Population and Fistula Foundation Nigeria, sponsored the rehabilitation programme.
The commissioner said the rehabilitated women were trained in various trades, including knitting, sewing, pomade and spaghetti making, among other.
She said the empowerment would enable the women to establish businesses of their choice.
Abubakar said that the women were presented with sewing, knitting, grinding and spaghetti making machines.
The commissioner disclosed that the state government planned to rehabilitate another batch of 150 VVF patients this year.
