The leadership crisis within the ranks of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has affected workers’ compliance to the strike called by a faction of the Congress.

The Ayuba Wabba-led faction on Wednesday embarked on the Industrial action, following the withdrawal of the Joe Ajaero-led faction, the Trade Union Congress, as well as some other labour unions.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that normal activities continued in Bauchi, Yobe, Adamawa, and Jigawa states, as residents ignored the call by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to embark on strike over the increase in pump price of fuel.

Also, public and private sector workers in five states of the North West on Wednesday defied the nationwide strike action as socio-economic activities were also going on, with schools, banks, markets, hospitals and other businesses fully opened.

NAN also reports that the strike action was not observed in Lagos, Rivers, Taraba states and the Federal Capital territory.

However, NAN reported that there was partial compliance in Gombe state, and the labour force in Ebonyi state carried out the directive as local, state and federal governments offices were locked while workers gathered in groups discussing the situation.

Reports also say that there were protests in Edo, Delta, Ogun, and Oyo states on Wednesday.
