Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo has solicited the assistance of 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Benin, to address the problem of street children.

Obaseki made the appeal on Friday in Benin when the Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim Garuba, paid him a courtesy visit in Government House.

He said that the problem of street children was a major security threat to the kids and the nation.

He appealed to the army to help tackle the challenges, pointing out that although Edo was a relatively peaceful state, there was a  need to ensure that it remained so.

Obaseki gave assurance that the state government would work closely with the Brigade to ensure peace and security in the state.

He said his administration would draw up a security plan and work with the Brigade.

The governor said the government would re-introduce the neighbourhood watch in the state

“We will consolidate on the Edo project, as you already know, we have built infrastructure, we are now in the next phase of the Edo project which is human capital development,” he said.

Earlier, Garuba said he came to intimate the governor of the essence of the Brigade in the state.

He said the Brigade would partner the government to ensure the protection of lives and property.
