Bestselling author? How? Is it New Yorks time best selling author? She has sold millions? Please , educate me……

Busarni, you need to educate yourself. Why do you need her to be New York best seller before she is recognized as a best selling author in Nigeria.

This is the attention she so desperately craves. Like a shark when it sees blood. I worry for nigerians and their herd bandwagon mentality they voraciously feed on anything shoved down their throats with little discernment. We heard one side but not Majes and everyone is a judge jury and executioner. 80 percent of nija women have gone through are going through and will go through heartache but just try to heal and move on. The one thing is that in terms of marketing this is brilliant because she has made money and solicited pity from ppl. I hope she braces herself because Maje might lawyer up and strike back. Something tells me the plot is just thickening and she should get ready for a bumpy ride.

One thing ladies is that we cannot intimidate a man into loving us.

Letty, asides from everything you’ve said, what worries me is the ‘strength’ this woman is ‘selling’ after consciously accepting bs from a man for too many years. I support Toke and love her fierceness but like someone said on this blog a month or so ago, would Toke have written a book, started this ‘strength of a scorned woman’ campaign and left that marriage if SDK hadn’t broken the news of her husband’s dodgy lifestyle/baby mama to the public? At first, I thought Unbecoming was her own version of the truth and how she intended to move on and stuff. But telling this ‘i’m strong’ despite all is bs, let’s face it. What would have made her strong is if she left during his bastard behavior. Not… I just hope young girl don’t think this is what it means to be strong,

I completely agree with u. My friend once said to me that her boyfriend used her laptop to order five bunch of roses for different girls as a valentine day gift. She also received one , that was not enough to put her off or stay away from d guy. She kept on dating him with d hope that he will change. After d guy eventually dump her she wants to claim the victim despite d fact she saw d writting on d wall. Madam Toke don’t play d victim, I remember after d news came out that majè impregnated someone and she confirmed d story on her blog by putting on a brave face. Few months after that she went to a public event with maje dancing and showing some PDA. In fact bellanaija tag them as “couple goals”. She is no hero she is a woman that walked into a relationship with her eyes open. She was not trapped in fact d guy cancelled to registry date. She forced herself on d guy .

      Well said dear.
How about if ‘The Other Woman’ desides to write her own side of the story?
There is always two sides to a story. Because we had Toke’s side first doesn’t mean she is a hero or Inspiring Women as perceived.

Why is she condemned for telling her story by nigerian society? I’m sure she has her lawyers as well to fight her case. So, there’s nothing to be intimidated by. Y’all enjoyed her book right, fiction or non fiction. She didn’t do porn to gain more publicity and money. Kim kardashian did it, she’s famous now, richer and even admired by the same women bashing Toke.
Maje has every right to come out with his own book or side of the story. And I doubt she will write a whole book about lies. American Women do this all the time, but a Nigerian woman decides to turn her story into money, it’s the end of the world. About time Nigerian women speak up and stop hiding, pretending under their dysfunctional relationships/marriages.
Do I consider her strong or voice for women? No. Matter of fact, she was being stupid but hey it’s her life. But I admire her hustle. Stay strong Toke.

Some Women become very needy when they are not treated nicely or the man becomes nonchalant..even if it’s aa man they didn’t like that much to begin with. I also think same goes vice versa

I totally wish I read On Becoming when I was 15, I would have made better choices and wouldn’t have gone through all I did in the hands of my ex who was almost my undoing. And I recommend the book to a lot of young girls, especially those who are just starting out in relationships.

I agree, a lot can be learnt from the book.

You don’t need to have read the book to avoid pitfalls.
You needed and still need common sense and a good dose of self-worth.

    • Fille

      December 11, 2016 at 6:51 pm

I mistakenly loved your comment twice but all I will say to you is that I pray God gives you the grace to be humble and not see yourself as better than others. First, there’s definitely a lot to be learnt from that book, but because it’s about Toke, you won’t see that. Second, I was referring to myself all through my comment so I don’t see your need to insult me. And my self-worth is so enormous now, I cannot believe it. I’m thankful for that but I would have been a better person, had I had a guide. So, yes I will say it again, I wish I had read On Becoming as a misguided teen and would definitely recommend it to young girls out there.

The babe looks good, I wonder why people think it’s cool to post so much vitriol about her. I doubt you even know this woman well but we’re sure sure she’s not a good person and a negative role model blahblah. When it’s a white woman it’s emotional abuse, when it’s a Nigerian woman it’s desperation. If the marriage worked out now you guys would be hailing her as a strong woman. Because we don’t know your own stories. Toke looks nice to me! Especially the picture where she wears the yellow top. Lovely!

I am back bcos this Toke issue is becoming quite troubling. The only thing that was emotionally gripping about this whole bruhaha is that she lost her parents suddenly and violently. I am sure she and her siblings were left with some trauma but it is amazing that her big aunt and uncle stepped in and parented them. 1000 kudos to them.

I remember once before i got married there was this guy who seemed enamoured by me but when i disagreed with him over something mundane, he became verbally violent bent out if shape and said he would drop me to catch a bus, seeing the escalation i kept quiet and knew that would be the last time i would ever be caught within a mile radius of him. It goes against our natural instinct to be in situations that we don’t like. This tokes story does not all together add up. Maybe she was enticed by his pedrigree and familial status and wanted to be a part of it. She seems to have deep seated ussues that even the vengeance of writing a book might not fill. First of all she is not a role model that should be made very clear. Talking about sexual acts getting stds and referring to herself as vaun constantly is very very distasteful and is just too much filthy information and has nothing to do with keeping anything real. She is not the gold standard for our young ladies. This should be made clear. Stop with the glorification please.

Toke knows it’s all about content control and she is doing a great job at making her money. When will Nollywood give a review on this book?
