President Barack Obama is giving his farewell address today in Chicago and ahead of that he’s reflecting on his journey as the President of the United States of America as well as his journey to being the President.

Barack will be the 10th president in American history to present a formal goodbye.

According to him, he chose to give his farewell speech in Chicago as opposed to the traditional White House venue because Chicago is where it all started for him and it is a perfect opportunity to reflect. It’s a fitting choice of location, given that Illinois is the state where Obama first launched his Senate career in 1997 and where he delivered his victory speeches in both the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections.

On a post on the White House Instagram page, President Obama said “On Tuesday, January 10, I’ll go home to Chicago to say my grateful farewell to you, even if you can’t be there in person. I’m just beginning to write my remarks. But I’m thinking about them as a chance to say thank you for this amazing journey, to celebrate the ways you’ve changed this country for the better these past eight years, and to offer some thoughts on where we all go from here…I hope you’ll join me one last time. Because for me, it’s always been about you.”

The White House will stream the speech live on its website and on its official Facebook page. The address will also air live on broadcast/cable news channels such as Fox, BET, NBC, ABC and CBS.
