In 2 days, one lucky damsel will be crowned the 2016 Miss Universe.

The finale of the 65th edition of the annual pageantry will be held on January 30, 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines where Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines will crown her successor at the end of the event.

BellaNaija Beauty has shown you photos of our African beauty queens competing this year (click here to see), their glam shots (click here to see) as well as clips to get to know them better. (click here to see)

Yesterday, the preliminary competition went down in Manila. At the Mall of Asia Arena, all 86 contestants competed in swimwear and evening gown in front of a panel of preliminary judges. The scores from the night’s event along with an interview portion determine the Top 12 during the Miss Universe broadcast. The Preliminary Competition was hosted by Pia Wurtzbach and Filipino-British actor Derek Ramsay.

Our African queens definitely stole the spotlight.

See what they rocked to represent their countries and pick your favourite. We are loving Angola, Nigeria and Mauritius.

Dis Ms Nigeria not get the memo about the national costumes? She’s all decked in proper traditional wear but the others ‘sexified’ their own cos I can’t believe that their traditional clothes are really that sexy/revealing.

It’s up to the Judges.. Nigeria tends to do quite well in this category.. because we actually wear traditional costume.. not something bought in a store like so of the other contestants. You can tell wear Nigeria’s costume is from nd what it represents.. same with Sierra Leone.. bt some of the other girls cant say the same..

Miss Nigeria looking like she just went to sign country register. Of all the outrageously beautiful costumes we have in our country. In Falz’s voice, Wehdone Ma. I loooove Mauritius and Angola. Namibia National Costume na monokini? Hian. The smile on Miss Sierra Leone is beyond gorgeous! Nice.

Let d Indians or whichever Asian country made that Unoaku’s fabric catch u claiming their cloth for your national costume.

Oga Ben Bruce and company, with all our needs to sell ours to outsiders, u did not consider all d beautiful akwete, aso oke and other local fabrics for our Queen? Una no try at all o. The cash crunch must be biting real hard o for u to choose this fabric that is just all over the place.

Thank God d babe is cool and beautiful so that simple now looks like the new beauty fad

I find it disappointing when we always do so badly during the main event when it comes to our traditional attires,it sucks big time!during the pageants in Nigeria the costumes makes sense but all of a sudden it just looks like the designer for the main event just lose their brain and cannot design anymore and put together a proper Nigerian costume…. Na wah!

actually the Nigerian girl is beautiful but she seem to be lacking confidence and that fierceness she needs to stands out. hope her looks buy her votes and also enchant the judges if not she really needs to step up her game and know its not a competition for who is more ajebota oh
