Road Traffic Officials and Transport Workers Clash in Kano

Sporadic gunshots rocked Kano city centre after officials of Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) and and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) clashed under Ado Bayero bridge, Zaria Road.

According to Vanguard, a source said that KAROTA officials tried to evict an illegal motor park under the flyover adding that “the plan eviction met a stubborn resistance and armed security were called in to contained the situation”.

SaharaReporters reports that “policemen attached to KAROTA shot into the air for about 20 minutes, with passers-by fleeing at the sound of gunshots and sign of billowing gunsmoke”

Members of the NURTW erected bonfires, in protest

The Kano Police Public Relation officer, DSP Magaji Musa Majia said that he is yet to be debriefed on the incident as the time of filing the report.
