Of Marital Rape, STDs and Infidelity: See this Twitter Thread

Marital rape is as real as other forms of rape and sexual violence, and inasmuch as it is not codified in the Nigerian constitution, spouses should do well to respect their partner’s choice when they say “no”.

Assistant Police PRO of the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters Annex, Aliyu Giwa shared a thread about marital rape, but this one had several twists.

yes marital rape is real and needs to be dealt with but is that all she could conclude from this
    what about the woman’s infidelity
her giving her husband an STD
and giving her husband another man’s child
then reporting to the police that you’ve been raped when it is clear that the lines of communication between you and your husband were blurred when it happened.
You see were dishonesty leads you
If you were a man, you would have been hanged in the court of public opinion by now

Unfortunately it is not. Under the both sharia laws and the laws covering southern states.

I’m not sure this is the right story with which to discuss marital rape, I think it even leads to another conversation: if a party in a relationship says no, could it be they are hiding something?

Marital rape or rape of any form should not be trivialized or mocked because in a way that’s what this story does. I’m sure the Nigerian police has had more concrete rape reports so why highlight this shady story?
