It’s distutbing when these “men of God” make authoritative statements like this. Why are they all shook by Freeze’s latest tithing rants? If they know that before God, they have been handing their congregations tithes properly, why are they all blabbing?

I understand that it my be SHOCKING to read such statement….shocking that is until you realize it is in fact BIBLICAL.
God does say in MALACHI 3:10 that we should test Him with tithing and see if He wont open the floodgates of Heaven and bless us.

This man of God has basically said the same thing God Himself said..just in the reverse.

So actually what he said ISNT UNBIBLICAL. (and no he is not my personal pastor lol)

Hope this clears it up. Stay blessed!

      Everyone should be “shook”…
the traditionalists fought the europeans until the europeans created another way which had to be peaceful to make the traditionalists serve them which is today called School…

the school was created as a way to make the trads adopt their religion, culture and at the end get administrative roles at european owned companies which would make the trads and their unborn generations subservient to the europeans…

TITHES are meant to be given to the europeans but since the trads discovered that they were been controlled in their own territory fought for independence and now today those TITHES are been given to people of the same skin color as us..

In summary, TITHES were meant to ensure that the foreigners who brought the religion collected a percentage of millions of people wealth back which would indirectly make them richer than the people they would have been living side by side with…

If I continue explaining this note would be long… the europeans created ways to make sure every colony and their unborn generations were subservient to them..

Freeze and others who support him are just tools to cause chaos in the Nigerian christian society..

Tithe is a donation to the pastor… It can’t get anyone into heaven or the good side of the creator.

He is saying what the Bible says actually. If you believe in the Bible, you shouldn’t take offence at all. Except you don’t see the bible as authority/God’s word, which is another thing entirely.

Besides, tithing should be done by true children of God. Three persons know if you are a true child of God – yourself, Satan and God. If one is a true child of God, depending on your current level of development/growth in Him, you will find it easy to tithe.

One more thing. Not everybody’s tithe is accepted by God. Except you are his child, you are just paying it for paying sake. A child pays his/her tithe out of love and obedience to the One who is the source of all good blessings.

So, all these argument about tithing is originated from the father of all liars – Satan himself. That’s what he does best and the children of God shouldn’t be caught up in his tactics.

Cocoa, please read Deuteronomy as well. And come back and tell us who God said the tithes should be given to. And how often. As always all you who defend tithes that Pentecostal churches are using to rob you will always quote Malachi. The Bible has several verses for tithes. Why do you always focus on Malachi. SMH. I have never paid tithes in my life. And God hasn’t stop blessing me and protecting me! I volunteer for charity work and also give to people. Not because God command me to. I just do it because it is who I am and it is also how I was raised by my family and educational environment. As a child, I hear my grandma talk about her tithes, which she manages to pay every now and then from her retirement pay. Aside that, I don’t know any member of my family who pays tithe. And God hasn’t stop blessing us. This fear and one size fits all force of faith is partly why people are turning atheist or non-religious. Organized religion!

I have nothing against whoever chooses to pay tithes and whichever way they choose to, but everyone should be educated about tithing and do it accordance to their faith and beliefs. The only one size fit all the Bible gave is LOVE. Love yourself, love your neighbours, love God by obeying his commands. And his commands are all to do with love. If you love yourself you won’t commit self infliction, if you love your neighbours you won’t harm them and etc. Hence you obey God and please him.

You all should stop using fear to make people pay tithes the way you choose to! It is a personal thing! There are 17 verses in the Bible about tithes. Why do you all always focus on Malachi! Read more. Here are list of all the time tithes were mentioned in the Bible.

“This is a list of all 17 bible verses  about tithing from both the Old and New Testament scriptures.

Genesis 14:20 – In this bible verse, Melchizedek comes out to meet Abraham, as Abraham gives him a tithe of the spoils of his victory.

Genesis 28:20-22 – After the vision of God’s renewed covenant, Jacob initiates a covenant with God vowing to give him a tithe of what he receives from the promised land.

Leviticus 27:30-32 – The specifications of tithing is introduced into the law of Moses.

Numbers 18:20-32 – The tithe is dedicated the Levites for the work in the tabernacle.

Deuteronomy 12:5-11 – God gives instructions for what to do with the tithe once Israel crosses the Jordan.

Deuteronomy 14:22-29 – God gives instructions on how to disperse and exchange the tithe.

Deuteronomy 26:12-15 – God gives instructions on how Israel should sanctify the tithe before they can ask for a blessing.

2 Chronicles 31:5-12 – The children of Israel do what’s right under the reign of Hezekiah, and bring the tithes to the designated places.

Nehemiah 10:37-38 – Israel obeys God and brings the tithes to the storehouse.

Nehemiah 12:44 – Officers were appointed to watch over the tithes in the storehouse.

Nehemiah 13:5-12 – Nehemiah cleanses the storehouse and kicks Tobiah out of the room that was designated to store the tithe. He then restores order.

Amos 4:4 – God commands Israel to bring back the tithe and reiterates the curse that is upon them if they don’t.

Malachi 3:8-10 – God reprimands Israel for not delivering the tithe, and reiterates the blessings and curse that would be in result of whatever decision they chose.

Matthew 23:23 – Jesus rebukes the Pharisees for not obeying the weightier matters of the law along with tithing.

Luke 11:42 – A parallel bible verse of Matthew 23:23 as Jesus rebukes the Pharisees for not obeying the weightier matters of the law along with tithing.

Luke 18:12 – A Pharisee brags about his obedience to the law and tithing.

Hebrews 7:5-9 – Abraham’s tithe is used to illustrate a change concerning the priesthood.

There are many other bible verses that relate to giving, offerings, or first fruits; but the bible references above are all of the only verses that strictly refer to tithing.”

cocoa yes the bible is crystal clear when it comes to tithes. But if we are honestly interpreting that verse on tithes literally , verbatim then it says FOOD, Produce from the LAND , Livestock. MONEY was never mentioned. I have a concern that some of thes men of god seem to place alot of emphasis on CASH MONEY. WHY is this so?. Where did they get that directive from . Is it that they have interpreted that verse to serve whatever purpose. Honestly lets ask Kwesions? I understand most of us today are not farmers with produce and lifestock but we all got different talents and gifts rather than give a certain amount as an obligation, we are urged to share generously of whatever talents, abilities and wealth God has entrusted to us:

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. (NIV, Romans 12:6-8)
Why then is the emphasis on Money??
If you give money than it is your responsibilty to make absolute sure that your money is funding Gods course and noting else. Ignorance is not an excuse.

They are all attacking he’s character with words a Christian shouldn’t speak..

@cocoa Bring the full amount of your tithes to the Temple, so that there will be plenty of food there. Put me to the test and you will see that I will open the windows of heaven and pour out on you in abundance all kinds of good things.
    Malachi 3:10 GNB
God never said he won’t if you don’t. Please let’s not get it twisted. I don’t pay tithe, I don’t think Bill Gate does as well but in my own little way God didn’t open the widows of heaven he broke the walls of heaven and blessed me. Legitimate blessings that makes most testimonies look regular. Whatever rocks your boat. My God blesses whoever finds favour in his eyes.

I don’t know why you don’t pay tithe. The fundamental thing here is why you know what God said yet don’t comply.

God owns it ALL…i don’t see why giving 10% back to honor the One who gave us ALL we have .is such a taboo.

My prayer is for God to continue to Bless me so I CAN BE A BLESSING.

For me personally..I am not even lured by the “open the floodgates of Heaven”…. If God says i should pay 10% i will pay 10% …even if there was no reward for it. It is not even about the BLESSING for me….it is about honoring my MAKER.

I believe 10% is even too small to give back for all God has done and continues to do for me. 10% is nothing…as God increases my income by Gods grace so shall i increase my tithe. HE IS WORTHY.

The irony of the whole thing is that 99% of employees that pay tithe are mostly employed by 90% “non-tithers”. If Malachi Chapter 3 is absolute, then the maths don’t add up. The major criterion to determine right or wrong in a christian’s life is to ask yourself this simple question “What would Jesus do?”. The rate at which these pastors are taking these tithe thing personal, you would think Jeff Bezos, Dangote, Gates, Orthega, Buffet etc. pay tithes. (these guys don’t pay tithes but they do a lot of charity and they are blessed). The primary purpose of tithe is to support the needy in the house of God and not necessarily for propagation of the gospel. The real gospel is taking care of the poor, keeping Jesus commandments and loving your neighbours. Jesus took 5 loaves and 2 fishes from a young boy, multiplied it and fed 5000. These days, pastors take from 5000 and use it to feed 2 people. Church members should hold their preachers and GO’s accountable. I once listened to Ashimolowo’s rationale for justifying private jets for GO’s on Channels TV.. He used Pastor Adeboye as an example. He said he has churches in 140 countries. As the GO, he may need to be in Kenya today and South Korea tomorrow. This would be difficult using commercial airlines and so on…. Here is my response: We live in a Technology era and you don’t need to be physically present in Korea or Kenya before you minister efficiently. As a matter of fact, RCCG and most of the big denominations have a very efficient online streaming facility that reaches the very end of the world. Folks all over the world join their HolyGhost services and other special programs via live stream all the time. You can minister and pass your message across without the unnecessary luxury of private jets. The former is cost efficient and representative of the wishes of majority of the “tithers” in these churches. Moreover, it saves a lot of money. Jesus would be happier if the funds saved are shared amongst the poor. With a simple tool as facebook , you can listen to live sermons from any corner in the world. Someone said what about miracle ministrations? He doesn’t need to be physically present as well. The centurion told Jesus : you don’t have to come to my house , I am a man of authority, i give orders to my servants and they follow. So speak the word and my servant shall be made whole. Jesus looked at him and said , i haven’t found such faith in Isreal. jesus spoke and his servant was healed. (I don’t intend to preach today). People can receive healings and blessings via TV ministrations. Even CEO’s and billionaires who can afford these luxury don’t abuse it. We are Nigerians and most people live below poverty level. A man of God shouldn’t be able to afford such luxury or rub it on poor people’s faces. Creflo Dollar, TD Jakes, Joel Osteen may be able to afford it. They are from developed countries where the poor get food stamps at least. The kind of merchandise in churches today is almost similar to what they were doing at the temple the day Jesus got a cane and beat the shit out of them. Today you hear statements like let the person donating N1b see my secretary etc. What did Jesus do when he gave a parable about an offering collection session? He gave credence and commended the widow who gave her two cents. That was all she had. Jesus went further to say she gave the most. The N10 donors can’t see church secretaries unfortunately but the N1b donors can. Again, I ask, what would Jesus do? Would Jesus have attacked Freeze the way Ashimolowo attacked his personality? As a matter of fact, Jesus was a friend of sinners. He was always chilling with them. i.e Zachheus, Simon the lepper , the woman of samaria (prostitute), Mary magdalene etc. Jesus spent 3.5 years on earth rebuking the religious bodies and institutions (Pharisees and Sadducees). They were mostly hypocrites. Freeze may be deeply flawed as a human being but that does not invalidate his arguments. He is simply asking these preachers to prove to him biblically how tithe is connected to blessings and salvation. In my opinion, both are mutually exclusive or statistically independent. Jesus emphasised on giving. He gave to the poor and advised us to do the same. If Jesus was on earth today, would he be flying private jets? would he be driving a rolls royce? He borrowed the donkey he rode into Jerusalem. Your GO’s don’t have the monopoly of God’s calling. Jesus told the rich young ruler, a man who had been keeping the 10 commandments from his youth, to sell all he had and give to the poor. It was difficult for the dude. If Jesus could do that, i doubt if he would be comfortable with a preacher having a fleet of jets. As i conclude, the fundamental question remains: what would Jesus do? Jesus is the absolute and the perfect example and not any GO. Simply because, he is a man first, and therefore fallible. I am not with Freeze nor with any daddy GO, I am with Jesus. I dare not say more.

God said He’ll open the windows of Heaven if you bring Him a tithe; He however never said He WOULDN’T if you DON’T. Is this not the same God who said He causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust alike? (Matt 5:45). I never blame “Men of God” for their narrow interpretation of the Bible. I blame the congregations for not going to search out scripture for themselves. In Nigeria, people fear men of God more than God Himself.
How about we focus more on Salvation and treating each other with basic kindness than having heart failure at the thought of people not paying their tithes. They have the Bible-most xan read for themselves. If God has really called You, He’ll fund “His” ministry through HIS own means . You don’t have to employ scare tactics. Jesus hated the Pharisees for one major reason- they interpreted Scripture in a way that placed people in bondage. Well this is a new dispensation. God isn’t going about cursing people because they don’t pay Him 1/10 as if He’s an agbero taxing danfo drivers.
    My 2 cents anyway.

Malachi 1-end God was addressing the levites, from the 10% they collected they were meant to bring it all to the store house, and distribute some of these food ( not cash) to the priest and the poor.
Malachi 3:9 was not addressing the gentiles which are today christians.
if you use your tithe to feed the poor and widows and orphans. God will bless you.

    The church are rich

God care about souls not building or give to those who are very fortunate with millions.

Jesus christ came to feed the hungry and to set the captives free as well to give us power to fight the evil of this world. so we can overcome the many tricks of the evil one.

Ask yourself the people that brought this religion to Africa is this the way they practice it? there is a saying .. you cannot know a boy more than his mother, how is it that we Africans purport to know the religion more than the original people? Look around can you honestly hand on heart say that Nigerians are Godly ? the place is full of wicked hypocrites; pretenders and lawless people. Take for example the Noise nuisance law that was passed most of the so call churches are flouting it everyday they make life unbearable for the everyone in the communities, you don’t get that in UK and other countires. Let call a spade a spade these people are just doing it for the money and security of the family at the expence of the vulnarable and desperates. There is an uproar because most of them are greedy pulpit hustlers ripping their desperate congregants!! And people are really suffering, madam!!! Look around you,People are seriously suffering, do you realise that???? Look at our brothers bought as slaves in Libya!!!

THEY PROMISE YOU HEAVEN IN EXCHANGE FOR YOUR MONEY!!!! THAT’S BRIBING!!! See them all losing their cool and raving with their facial muscles tensed…with their mouths almost filled with foam. They prefer to fly around the US and Dubai, but funny enough, God never “tells” them to go to the North…or even to their villages to preach salvation.

NONE as in NONE of them has succeeded in backing up this tithe thing biblically . Only threats and curses. Let them get a job, let us see if they will give out their 10 % so easily. After all, Jesus did carpentry, Paul made tents , Peter was a fisherman. Are they busier than Paul who was one of the greatest apostles in the Bible ??? The same Paul whose anointing they envy so much … see how he lived, see how he died!!! They only want to be balling in Dubai!!! Paul never collected money in exchange for the gospel. He said he’d rather die!!! Go read your Bible in Corinthians.

And when they step down, their kids will take over!!! Generational wealth…. with our sweat!!!!

There is a kind of special blessing… Ok we have heard you. The issue now is how can he say God will never bless anyone who doesn’t pay tithe? Does he know the mind of God? The God we serve is mysterious. Full stop. Funny how most modern day pastors focus on the New Testament for the prosperity gospel but revert to Malachi when it’s time for tithing.

@ Cocoa, it’s not tithing that’s the problem it’s the way it is practiced. If you want to give God your money why give it to a system that doesn’t prioritize the needy? Is that Godly? How does that sit well on your conscience?
Give as much as you want and you’re right no amount would ever be enough for the God who has given you all but please do it with common sense.

      Hi COMMENT,
Valid point… except it is stated in the BIBLE that tithe is meant
for the STOREHOUSE. I am WORRIED if a Spirit-filled Christian attends a Church that doesnt prioritise the needy. Maybe the problem isn’t paying tithe….maybe people need to talk to God about churches before they become members.

Mr. W joined the Contracts/Procurement Department of “ABC” corporation in 2010. His monthly salary until 2012 was NGN98000, later increased to NGN132000 in 2013. W believes in free and fair bidding process, never received bribe from any vendor. In fact he’s the only one in his department who still lives in a rented apartment. The first/last time Mr. W paid tithe was in May,2010 when he received his first salary. Instead, on a monthly basis, W donates NGN10000 to the less privileged home near his workplace, NGN5k each to two widows from his church, 10k to a single mother of 3(daughter is autistic, last son has down syndrome). He has been doing this since June 2010. All three men joined Winners Chapel, CanaanLand in 2010, coincidentally they share the same first day at the church. On their way back from Shiloh yesterday, Mr P and Mr Y’s driver had an epileptic attack, SUV ran into Mr. W standing by the Busstop. 1) Heaven gates will be opened to P or Y or W? 2)Blessings one receive from payment of tithe-does that apply to P and Y? To be honest I have nothing against paying of tithes, just a little bit worried by our “Daddies” response. A SIN IS a SIN. You do not excuse one sinner and then label the other sinner just cause they sin differently.
Pastors do not question rogue politicians who attend their churches and even get to sit in front(VIP sections) meanwhile curse is been directed at non-tithers issokay. #DoChurchesevencareabout sourcesofincome? #EvanstheKidnapperalsopaidhistitheregularly #RoguePoliticiansalsopaytitheright?

What perhaps people need to to ask God is what it means for the “floodgates of Heaven ” to be opened….and why it is a promise for a Tither.

My Two Naira on this issue: Since Christians are under the new covenant of grace, we should live our lives under that covenant. Under this new covenant, you are free to give 5%, 10%, 20%, 50%, 80% etc, whatever you have prayerfully decided to give is fine so long as you do it with a cheerful heart that’s full of praise, thanks and reverence for the LORD. You will NOT be under a curse for not giving exactly “10%!” God loves a cheerful giver! But remember, he who sows sparingly will reap sparingly & he who sows plenty will reap plenty.

P.S: Nigerians, it is okay to honor your pastors or men of God, but don’t worship them. Please search the scriptures for yourselves. Read the Bible well for yourself, read the entire chapter, go further. Don’t just take one verse or let someone take a couple of verses and misinterpret things for you. Read the word yourself consistently and pray for understanding, knowledge, wisdom and the Holy Spirit will help you. Pleaseeeee.

You are not giving your money to God. God doesnt need your 10%. Jesus was clear about salvation whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers that will be done on to you. Tithing was made so the poor can eat. I am feeding the poor without paying tithe. Let’s preach more salvation and less money. Let’s teach our kids to be kind, respectful and watch and see if Nigeria wont be better. Let’s teach love, kindness, salvation not tithing. FYI New age Christianity makes me sad as well, we think if we bribe God with our 10% we will have it all.

We still dey this matter? Sho!!! At those that argue tithing was for the Levites and under the law, i will say tithing came before the Levites and before the law. Abraham tithed in Gen 14:20. Jacob did in Gen 28:22. I will leave that there for now.

For the Cocoa’s that contradict themselves by saying it is not a big deal but in the very next statement say that “the flood gates of heaven blessings” are only tied to tithing. No that is not what Malachi says if that is the Bible psg you are referring to. No where did Malachi say only tithers are entitled to open heaven blessings let’s stop stating our personal convictions as biblical truths. You say you give because God told you to do it. While i am not here to argue your personal convictions. I will say that 2 Cor 9 vs 7 says we should not give out of compulsion. If the reason you give is as you stated i.e because God told you to then yes it is giving out of compulsion. The difference between giving under the law which the cross put a end to and giving under grace and prior to the law i.e Abraham and Jacob is the intent. Under law, there was compulsion, before the law and after Grace it is due to love, neither Jacob nor Abraham were compelled to give they gave of a free will because of their gratitude and love for God. Which is what 2 cor ask of us.

We Christians are getting carried away by this unnecessary argument. The argument is focused on the act -tithing instead of the intent, i.e love and gratitude. Not some curse or compulsion that the cross has put an end to. Tithe, give and do whatever but do it from a cheerful heart. God loves a cheerful giver not a mandated one or one compelled by an “open heaven blessing”.

Not some curse or compulsion that the cross has put an end to. Tithe, give and do whatever but do it from a cheerful heart. God loves a cheerful giver not a mandated one or one compelled by an “open heaven blessing”.” <—– This. THIS!

It kills me to see that Christians have turned tithing into some form of Divine lottery – i.e. "I'll give God 10%, and receive an automatic ticket to my open Heaven millions". And it destroys my soul to see far too many pastors ENDORSE that attitude to tithing.

How have we still not grasped that anything said in the Bible about offerings made to God (including this battered Malachi 3 argument) is entirely focused on the actual attitude of GIVING? Cain brought a gift and Abel brought a gift and yet….. God wasn't impressed with one offering out of the two before Him. And dearly beloved brethren, tithing is just one form of giving. Stop abandoning other forms of the latter in favour of chasing the fruits/rewards of the former. Just stop.

Always amazing to see how the portrayal of this our "African Jehovah" in Nigerian churches, has started to closely resemble those traditional gods our ancestors worshipped. Sacrifice here, flogging there, castigation everywhere for not adding tubers of yam to the fowl you brought to the shrine as an offering.

      Very Nigerian Jehovah, indeed.

There are 2 issues here: 1. Biblical implication of tithing 2. The accountability that goes with tithing

While there are several verses that support tithing, when Jesus was asked what the greatest laws were he gave a very simple answer “Thou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart” “Thou shall love thy neighbour as thyself” This completely answers the 2 issues above, you can not be a tither because you love God and not share the accountability of caring for the lesser privileged around you and expect open heavens. NOOOOO! If you are tithing and the Lord has blessed you and he sees it is not flowing from you to thy neighbour, increase your tithe all you want, your heavens will be closed.

The wealthiest men in the world have learnt something we all refuse to open our eyes to. It is only by giving and generosity that you receive, this is why Bill Gates, Warren Buffet remain some of the wealthiest in the world. God wants us to be accountable with whatever he is pouring into us and if our churches we are tithing to are not being our brothers keepers as tithers it is our role to speak up.

Our brothers and sisters would not be in Libya if the jet owning and designer wearing pastors were accountable and doing more AND WE ALL KNOW THIS!

This mockery of God and Christianity has to stop. By this logic, tithers should be the most successful people on earth, who don’t go through problems in their lives. But we know that is not the case. You are calling God a liar by your human rationalization of his word.

Giving a tenth predates the law, but it was NOT a commandment at the time of Abraham or Jacob. How does that translate to Christians must tithe? Abraham tithing was NOT a commandment from God. So using the Melchizedek principle as a reason to tithe is not being honest. This same Melchizedek principle, it is shown explicitly how Jesus has taken over the Priesthood in Hebrews 7, Hebrews 8:6-13. Jesus is very clear how we can give to him.

Matt 25:40-45 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'”They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'”He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the LEAST OF THESE, YOU DID NOT DO FOR ME.’

This is in line with the NEW testament mandate of giving generously.

You cannot quote Luke 11:42, Malachi 3:10 which are scriptures enforcing the law, and then in the same breathe claim you are under a Melchizedek principle which again I reiterate was not a commandment. The Jews were commanded to tithe because they were under the law? Are Christians under the law?

    Concerning Matthew 5:17.
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”

To fulfill is to bring to COMPLETION! It was not until Jesus died that the law was made obsolete. On the cross Jesus said “it is finished”. John 19:30

    Gal 3:19
Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions UNTIL the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. The law was given through angels and entrusted to a mediator.

    Gal 3:24
So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith.

Gal 3:10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

You can make your vows with God as Jacob did. But you have no scriptural rights to demand such from God’s people under his new covenant. There are other works that predates the law. Burnt offering predates the law. Circumcision predates the law, which was a commandment given to Abraham and his descendants. Even circumcision which was a commandment, was done away with in the new testament. Christians cite getting circumcised as ‘partaking in Abraham’s blessings”. But Gal5:2 is clear “Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.” NIV. The KJV writes “Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.”

Expose yourself to the TRUTH. This conversation have made me realize that knowledge and wisdom is TRULY a gift given as the Spirit pleases. Not all fire breathing Christians have wisdom or knowledge or understanding.

    1Corinthians 12:8-10
8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

Paul encourages to pray to have all these gifts but The fact that one speaks in tongues or ‘hear from the spirit’ as they claim does not mean they have wisdom or knowledge o.

@ Engoz, I want to believe when you refer to the Melchizedek principle you are referring to my Bible quotes. Let me make one thing clear, I am neither pro tithe nor for against tithers but you see the problem with you and Cocoa’s arguments is you both don’t seek to have true open conversations or as cocoa put it to “ learn the truth”, you both are only out to prove to who knows that your point of views are right and therein lies the problem. Now since I was the only to put out tithing per Jacob and Abraham (Melchizedek) out there. I would say if you had bothered reading my entire spill with an open mind, you would have realized we are on actually on the same page. In fact, I believe I ended with tithe/ give/ but do it out of love and gratitude not because of some mandate or of compulsion that the cross as dealt with, exactly what you said when you referred to Jacob’s giving. Like I said neither Abraham nor Jacob even despite “the so called priniciple” were compelled to give. No open heaven or closed heaven curse was involved.

I stated Abraham and Jacob to show a loop hole in the argument of those using the Levites or the law as a defense against tithing. To let it be known that it was not a concept introduced under the law. Just like I used 2 Cor. to show a loop hole in the argument of those using Mal. to push their arguments.

Nevertheless, your argument buttresses my point, both sides are so caught up trying to prove the other side wrong that we are focusing on the wrong thing I.e an act, God does not care about your works (act), he cares about your heart, I.e your intent, be it giving to the less privilege or to God or even praying just like Mz. S.A said with Cain and Abel, it is about the intention. Do it all out of love, not because God is now your latest slot gambling machine or because we are compelled to do so.

@ Cocoa, do you and your pastors pay the tithe of Deuteronomy 14:22-29.? If not, you HAVE NOT FULFILLED THE JUDAIC LAW. In this, you have robbed God and that “Floodgates of Heaven” is shut against you UNTIL you retrace the years and make RESTITUTION to the poor, widows, orphans, strangers and Levites you HAVE ROBBED these past years of YOUR PARTIAL TITHING.
You can’t keep one Law and transgress the other else you are A TRANSGRESSOR OF THE LAW.

That said, no pastor or minister of God is a Levite among us the Gentiles.
1Peter 2:9 – Every believer in Christ is a ROYAL PRIESTHOOD. Priests DO NOT PAY TITHE TO PRIEST much less a gentile Pastor.
Hebrews 7: 11-29, Jesus Christ is our Only and Final HIGH PRIEST….and Jesus NEVER collected tithes from his disciples neither did his Apostles or the early Church.
Acts 15: 19- 29 The elders and apostles NEVER mentioned tithe in their letter to the Gentile Church to clear another matter of the Law, Circumcision.
2Pet 3: 1-3 Beware of false prophets and teachers who make merchandise of you through COVETEOUSNESS.
The bible said to share our material benefits with those who teach us the Word of God not tithe.
How come most of these Pastors are richer than all their congregations put together.

When you would know if these pastors care for you is when you face challenges. Would they would even give you 1% of all your years of cumulative tithing?

I started tithing as a student in my Campus fellowship till I started working upto 2011 but I can tell you the blessing of God on my life did not come from tithing BECAUSE MY NON-TITHING SCHOOL MATES and FRIENDS were EQUALLY BLESSED and in some cases, far better. I mean all round not just materially.

The church needs to be regulated, end of story! The fact that these pastors live lives that blatantly shows off the money they collected from innocent people is sickening.
There needs to be a mandate that says Pastors can only keep 1% themselves. 10% can go to the maintenance of the church, and then the rest must go towards things that will benefit the congregation. Free schools, job programs, housing programs, etc.

The issue of TITHE has been trending on social media recently because of David Oyedepo’s statement that ,”The windows of heaven will be shut to non-tithers.” Even though his followers will call anyone that says anything contrary to his preaching Anti-Christ, it’s important that Christians understand the teachings of Christ better than the teachings of pastors.
Christ said that charity will be the criteria for accepting people in His kingdom, not tithing (Matthew 25:31-46). But many have embraced the teaching of these pastors on Tithing because it promises earthly rewards, not heavenly reward as Christ promised for those who do charity.
Christ only mentioned Tithe twice in the Bible. In Matthew 23:23 and Luke 18:12 where he talks of a Pharisee who brags about his obedience to the law and tithing. The only place that Tithe was mentioned again in the New testament was in Hebrews 7:5-9 which is the epistle written to the Jews. The apostles never mentioned it in the epistles to the Romans, Thessalonians, Galatians, Ephesians, etc. So why must Nigerian pastors mention it daily in their preaching?
In Matthew 23:23, Jesus was speaking to the pharisees when he said, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.”
But these pastors have altered the last sentence of this bible verse to mean that Tithing should not be left undone by Christians. But they fail to realize that Jesus was talking to the Scribes and Pharisees who were not Christians, but were advocates of the Jewish laws. Jesus simply meant that we should not neglect the requirements of the law of the land, while we perform our obligations as Christians.
Today pastors talk about tithe so much because they want to buy private jets and build private universities for the rich, while Christ rode on a donkey and taught people free of charge. But when anyone speaks against that, the sentimental members of their congregation call it an attack on ‘men of God’. When the disciples of Christ began the early church, Christians sold their lands and belongings and brought the proceeds to be shared among the congregation and everyone received according to his needs(Acts 4:32-35). These pastors will never preach that because it will not be in their interest to share their enormous wealth with the less privileged members of their congregation.
Tithing is a Jewish law, just as the the observation of the Sabbath day is. Traditionally, there are 613 Hebrew laws which the Jews have been observing since the 3rd century, and Tithing is the 253rd of them. The 86th is: ‘To circumcise all males on the eighth day after their birth.’ But Christ and his apostles welcomed the uncircumcised gentiles because Christ did not expect his followers to be bound by Jewish laws as he has called us from different nations.
Their law required the Jews to pay tithes to the High priest who made sacrifices for them. But Christ has made the ultimate sacrifice for us, and has become our High priest today. What Christ requires of us is Love, Charity and Forgiveness.

It is not wrong for anyone to give 10% of his earning to the church, but it’s wrong for any pastor to preach that tithing is a criteria for receiving God’s blessings and salvation.
