So you know how we like to do things in Lagos, everything is accompanied with a huge party, done ‘the Lagos Way’ and the 2010 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) nominees party was no different.
The 2010 MAMA Nominee party took place on the 30th of October 2010 at de Marquee in Victoria Island, Lagos. The lineup of stars that graced the event was seemingly endless – Don Jazzy, 2Face, Mo’Cheddah, D’Prince, Neato C, Darey Art Alade, Sasha, eLDee, Djinee, Sound Sultan graced the red carpet. As the purpose of the event was to unveil the list of nominees for the 2010 MAMAs, such a party wouldn’t be complete without performances from our favorite Nigerian Artistes; With celebrated DJ, Jimmy Jatt on deck, 2Face brought the house down with his performance of ‘Implication’ and ‘Only Me ‘ while Naeto C and Sasha’s collaborative performance put back the ‘S’ in Storm. Nigeria’s new musical star Mo’Cheddah also performed some of the hits from her new album, ‘The Franchise Celebrity’.
The main awards ceremony take place on Saturday 11 December 2010 at the Eko Expo Centre, Lagos, Nigeria. According to our sources, planning and preparation for the awards are already in full effect and we have a lot to be excited about; high profile performances, and exciting collaborations to mention a few. Who can forget Wyclef and Akon’s ‘revealing’ performance at last year’s MAMAs or D’Banj and Kelly Rowland’s onstage duet at the 2008 event? We were talking about it for weeks! BN will be bringing you all the highlights from this year’s MAMAs too!
We are so proud of our Nigerian artists, receiving 13 nominations is no mean feat and only goes to show how far Nigerian music has come. However, while some guests at the event noted that some of their favourite musicians were conspicuously missing from the list; others felt that the list was spot on. What do you think? I have noticed something about you guys here…You take pleasure in condemning peoples effort at looking good…If some of you got a quarter of the invitations these celebrities get…You might have to take loans to look half as good…I did get an invite to this event and the dress code read….ELEGANT! So a couple got the brief and interpreted it well: Sasha, Mo, Don Jazzy, FAB, eLDee and a handful.
