      • Me August 1, 2011 at 9:35 PM

O yeah!! that’s definitely a KATE MIDDLETON inspired wedding dress! :-) and waaay too obvious but trés chic ….really trés chic!

        • ogbuefi April 1, 2012 at 8:54 PM

Princess kate did not expose cleavage oh! The wedding did not take place in a grand Cathedral etc so it’s not really royal.
I wish them a happy married life, lots of children and God’s blessings

    • Justino August 1, 2011 at 5:22 PM

Where is the cake? it was a different concept inspired by one of the dresses………sob sob sob…..this is unfair…… well done Mai Atafo, Cakes by Tosan, The Wedding Company, Newton and David et al..Good Show….Bella Naija please more pictures

    • aggrieved on looker. August 1, 2011 at 5:23 PM

Welldone mai…I still don’t like what you did to my inlaws wedding dress. I never told her the dress was poorly done but I hope you get this message..
I even saw an exact replica of that dress on another post.

    • elleven45 August 1, 2011 at 5:23 PM

      Huh??

    • aggrieved on looker. August 1, 2011 at 5:24 PM

You actually have a nicer version of the Kate Middleton Sarah Burton for McQueen dress though.

    • Kémi Penélopê August 1, 2011 at 5:27 PM

This is the 9ja version of the ‘Royal Wedding’…that is what it is…

    • cathy August 1, 2011 at 5:48 PM

Nice n Interesting! Welldone Mai n everyone that was involved in this, good work.

    • keira August 1, 2011 at 6:17 PM

Kemi u said it all! Wat a dissappointment,on the last post about this show pple kept sayn he copied other bridal designers, lack of originality! This just proved it,I like mai’s male stuff but pls if u dnt hav the inspirational to design sumthn new then its not by force to do bridal abi! On the last post someene went as far as sayn he did a bad job on her inlaws weddn dress, now I see wat she means,if u r not original u mite most likey copy badly! Pls stick to the male stuff! This weddn thingy aint cuttn it! Imagine copyn the roal weddn outfits! Exactly d same! Haba! Y? Irritated much #

      • Justino August 1, 2011 at 6:46 PM

@ Keira, for the records, i was @ the event and this part of the event had nothing with originality or the dresses ,it was absolutely put up to spice up the show…nothing more……

      • Alero August 2, 2011 at 8:56 AM

I am so surprised that peeps are not getting teh idae of the royal wedding thingy. i didnt have to be there to understand the concept. There is no such thing as “copying” here bcos that was the idea in the first place.Nice job MAI. people will always talk.

      • enigmatic August 3, 2011 at 12:15 PM

        lmao

    • Franca Torti August 1, 2011 at 6:17 PM

Dis wedding gown is so so sweet…are they really married?

      • WaleAdeniji August 3, 2011 at 8:13 AM

        Ask google for answer please!

    • bebe August 1, 2011 at 6:18 PM

d kiss and faux wedding ceremony were really not necessary ….lyk hello?we know dey’re trying to depict a version of kate’s dress n will’s suit but i must confess d wedding dress by MAI is beyond stunning!sarah burton would cringe if she sees this!…lol

    • Anthonia Omeiza August 1, 2011 at 6:23 PM

I don’t understand what they mean by ‘Well, as you know it was not a real wedding’. Is Uti married or not????

    • dammybaby August 1, 2011 at 6:28 PM

there’s something wrong about that dress…….still not impressed wit MAI as a “designer”, my tailor would sew that same dress and probably do a better finished version. Just my opinion.

    • sweetie August 1, 2011 at 6:38 PM

God gave everyone a brain…..use it! The post said it is NOT a real wedding meaning, it is not real therefore it must be fake/false, meaning no they are not married in real life/for real/NOT married..do you understand now?

      • Kemchi August 1, 2011 at 7:27 PM

ROTFLMHO, as in some people sha. I don’t want to believe they’re still asking that question!
Now that you have been kind enough to explain thoroughly let’s wait and see :)

    • LWKMD August 1, 2011 at 6:51 PM

LOL AT LAST COMMENT. SORRY NOW THEY DID NOT UNDERSTAND. NOW THAT U HAVE ELOQUENTLY EXPLAINED IT I AM SURE THEY NOW UNDERSTAND. LOL

    • Moi August 1, 2011 at 7:11 PM

Ok..I will take d time to explain to those that don’t fully understand. Mai Atafo has branched into the bridal aspect of fashion. To launch his bridal line, he had a show wit all d trappings of a real weddin, bride, groom, cake n all. Munachi was d model bride n Uti d model groom. So they r not married, ave seen “happy married life Uti” on bb, and I was just shocked. They r not married, it could ave been any other 2 models for all u care

      • Ade August 2, 2011 at 11:21 AM

wat a better way of explainin stuff…thnx

      • iJustcant August 2, 2011 at 11:44 AM

@Moi, so does that mean Uti is not married??

Hehehee People will not kill me, haba Naija people. The article talk say no be real wedding. The wedding no real, the people wey dey picture no marry true true, all this one na just show as in similar to drama, not in real life. Chineke m’erem ebere.

      • tatafo! August 2, 2011 at 3:55 PM

okay I hear you, but the concept seems like variety show we used to do in boarding school though.

    • latchy August 1, 2011 at 7:15 PM

Kai! Some pple just dey ask mumu kweshion! Ok just read locomotive with me …THE..WEDDING.. IS.. FAKE. Now take a deep breath!

      • marhox28 August 1, 2011 at 9:12 PM

        @latchy Thank you ooo.i tire .

    • miffed August 1, 2011 at 7:37 PM

@kiera BEEF!!!!! I don’t comment but I couldn’t let ur comment slide. If u watch the news at all (which I fink u shld) u’d know that most designers abroad replicated that same gown in different ways so the none royals can afford it. He did it in 9ja and u r weeping, abegi park well. abi did u nt copy the dress u r wearing from a magazine? Who’s the copycat now??

@aunty aggrieved onlooker na ur wedding??? I’m pretty sure if sarah burton designed it, u would still say it was “badly done”. I don’t see ur inlaw complaining so whAt is ur own???
That been said ohimai, u try no be small. Keep it up.

      • Ronnie August 1, 2011 at 8:29 PM

        Well said!

      • eyeballs August 3, 2011 at 1:17 AM

@ miffed: thanks jare. every1 keeps acting like they own originality. pple DO draw inspiratin from history, happennings and life in general. thanks for also drawing attention to the fact that the dress was replicated for the commoners

    • Blush August 1, 2011 at 7:39 PM

it was a fab show. very entertaining. abeg free the Mai Atafo, designers copy each other and call it ‘inspiration’. he did well

    • Tiki August 1, 2011 at 7:43 PM

Kai, dat dress no make sense at all! In fact I don’t know if it was lighting or what, but if MAI expected to blow me away with this…EPIC FAIL!

    • Sett August 1, 2011 at 7:44 PM

they should have picked a cleaner groom…uti is too scruffy

    • yinka August 1, 2011 at 7:48 PM

      Corny!

    • foluke August 1, 2011 at 9:24 PM

      Nice one, Ohimai!

    • ndidiamaka August 1, 2011 at 9:25 PM

Maybe am the only one who think dude looks like a cartoon character (donald duck) lol so overrated

    • Na wah August 1, 2011 at 9:43 PM

Na wah for Naija, must we copy every thing …. I am sorry but no originality at all in all the designs i have seen, even the wedding dresses look horrible sewn . Dont say i am hating , just giving feedback that the designer needs if he/she wants to take it to the next level.. I am sorry but you need to go back to d drawing board , Although I give you credit for effort made in copying

    • Peperempe August 1, 2011 at 11:24 PM

“Miffed” came here to say that MAI as a “designer” is entitled to copy the design of Catherine’s dress becasue other designers have done the same. That is patently untrue. High street shops and well-known knock-off merchants have done so, but no self-respecting DESIGNER would copy that dress stitch-for-stitch which ies exactly what MAI has done. They may reference it but just copying it wholesale is lazy and unprofessional.

MAI is very clever at marketing ( he knows that we are frivolous and enjoy all sorts of tackiness, hence this uti-munachi fake wedding farce) and his line will go down well with middle class Nigerians, who sadly don’t know better. My only problem with this is that he has billed himself as a designer and he is charging as such, whereas he doesn’t seem to do any designing at all. Well if uninformed Nigerians are willing to pay, then who am I to spoil his show? He should be careful though, the word is getting out about the poor quality of his work and one day na one day people eye go clear.

      • Mary007 August 2, 2011 at 7:05 PM

        Well said

      • Obi August 3, 2011 at 1:48 AM

I may agree with some of your comments, but the dig at “middle class Nigerians” who “don’t know any better” isn’t right. Style is not dependent on social class/ standing. Tackiness is also seen among “high class Nigerians”. Please such disrespectful comments are not necessary.

        • Peperempe August 3, 2011 at 9:46 PM

Tackiness is seen amongst all classes of Nigerian society, especially amongst the upper classes actually. I singled out the middle classes because the more affluent people would probably do Vera Wang or something more obviously expensive and foreign. I wasn’t having a dig at all middle class people, just the ones that would pay this fellow 300,000 Naira (> 1000 pounds) for a wedding dress. You can get better fabrics and finishing at Debenhams for half that price.

    • francex August 1, 2011 at 11:32 PM

Why Do You Guys Find It Difficult 2 Get a Simple Concept……..D pix is not abt Originality or Creativity……D Guy Is Just Tryna Aware You GuyS (D Public in General) dat he’s now also doing *weddings*….I must Say its a Very Smart IDea cos It Gat People Talking……like seriously wEn can we ever get things straight, must everythn Be spelt Out..huh? .mtcheeeeew!

    • coolcat August 1, 2011 at 11:35 PM

While I commend mai for a worthy effort, its important to point out some areas whr he definitely needs to improve upon.

D jacket on uti fits poorly, d lines below r off. D bustle of d dress is terrible, in as much as it cascades it shud still hve some fitting. I also recommend d use of buttons cos I’ve heard it bears some significance to d luck of d bride. D fabric used is a poor choice. Might hve worked better if thr was some design but cos it runs down straight, looks very cheap.

he can only get better tho. Rome was not built in a day so this is a very good start!

    • ujay August 2, 2011 at 12:38 AM

i wish it was real, dey luk sweet 4 each oda!

    • slash August 2, 2011 at 3:30 AM

    • tina August 2, 2011 at 4:21 AM

    • Cherry August 2, 2011 at 6:52 AM

Well if u ask me, the aim of the ‘royal wedding’ initiative is obviously working! Everyone’s talking at least now you know Mai has now added weddings to his line. And about d dress not being well designed, I’m really forced to believe you must have been invited to have a personal inspection of the dress cos you definitely are not judging by the mere pix we all seeing. Good Job Mai, I’ll keep an eye on the full bloom of your wedding line…and I think you all shld do so before u start writing him off and running him down as a designer!

    • doll August 2, 2011 at 7:49 AM

      i like. well done Mai

    • chi chi August 2, 2011 at 8:28 AM

*sigh* i really CANNOT get over Uti’s hair and earrings (and styled with dat pompadour on top!). Muna’s beauty and the “wedding ideal” makes it all okay. i’m not gonna criticize MAI here, lets remember dat he’s been dressing Omowunmi Akinnifesi for years now and she’s one of the best dressed women around, so he’s gotta be some good. I’ll withold judgement on whether he’s any good with wedding attire or not, time will tell.

      • amanda October 1, 2011 at 9:16 PM

        dats quite true my dear

    • The french babe August 2, 2011 at 8:50 AM

Haaaaa, Nigerians!!! the whole point of ‘copying’ the royal wedding is to tell you that even if you want the type of Duchess Catherine’s dress, it can be gotten in Naija. SHIKENA!!!

    • Lord have mercy August 2, 2011 at 9:06 AM

      fanooik

    • Avenger August 2, 2011 at 9:19 AM

Can we see by show of hands how many of these “self certified” critics have a label? just what i thought…NONE…weda or not he made a few errors(which i can’t even see) this is just the beginning and i’m sure he’ll improve with time…the concept was to draw attention but judging from some of the grammar i have read today im not shocked y’all don’t get it….don’t run the poor dude down..until we learn to support the effort of our OWN naija will still remain in this rot…well done MAI….

    • mimilavander August 2, 2011 at 9:41 AM

@ geez nice one……………………. am about losing my job cos av bin laughing silly…………………… and @ amanda try not to be first next time.. na back seat fit you………… lwtmb

    • hils August 2, 2011 at 9:43 AM

I love Mai! He is good at what he does! The concept is nice, the dress is ok. But meeennnn the pix looks very very clumsy! No proper lighting, a shoe peeking in a corner, couldn’t they even arrange her dress for the shoot the list goes on…. common!! Not impressed at all. The decor from what i can see seems quite tacky for a ‘royal wedding’.

    • Dazzle August 2, 2011 at 9:57 AM

whats with the one leg of shoe oh in uti’s pic

    • ifeoma-adiagwuagwu August 2, 2011 at 10:36 AM

      Nice :)

    • cathy August 2, 2011 at 10:54 AM

abeg people wey no get better comments to paste una for no even come here in the first place ooooooo! make una do go hug transformer well well mschetwwwwwwwww!!! hehehehehe

    • MaryKay August 2, 2011 at 11:04 AM

The designer missed the mark here. I AM SORRY… The dresses are poorly done and the fabric looks so cheap . It has no originality which is okay if you do it WELL. For my wedding I got a knock off copy of a beautiful designer wedding dress from china, the fabric was so lovely and well sewn for a whopping cost of $200 dollars ….lol , that’s right 200 dollars (about 30k naira) and the fabric was lovely and very well sewn…. Just as a feedback , maybe he needs to go to spend some time in china and see how its done

    • HRS OLUBUSOLA August 2, 2011 at 11:35 AM

Beautiful! Outstanding! Concept on point! Gbam!

    • JOY August 2, 2011 at 11:43 AM

Mehn let’s get it in on twitter @coshadino. Thanx

    • nkem Minaj August 2, 2011 at 12:46 PM

lol at the babe in pix 5, dozing off…must ve been really boring…i so pity the ladies that will be patronizing him, bottom of the dress in the first pic looks very razz and cheaply done….thats the problem with nigerians, they love mediocrity. Even male suits you havent mastered you’re jumpin to female and now weddings of all things…shame!

    • Rocky Pascal August 2, 2011 at 1:22 PM

This is MUTI 2011,lovely but Muna, if Sheila catch you…

    • princess August 2, 2011 at 1:38 PM

my opinion ït looks like the “ABA VERSION”of the royal wedding

    • faith August 2, 2011 at 2:30 PM

i felt so bad wen i saw the picture on my bb yesterday…my uti married???….now i know better….lol…

    • Enigma August 2, 2011 at 3:14 PM

Errr guys before you kill and divide Mr Atafo, there was an actual show oh! With wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses to boot. Could you wait for those pictures before you judge? Mai’s clothes on Stephanie Okereke and Isio Wanagho have always impressed me. I’m looking forward to see these designs. The Royal wedding piece was just for entertainment nothing more.

    • nwando August 2, 2011 at 5:18 PM

Sometimes the comments are even more entertaining than the post! People and their bad mouth sha! And all in the name of ‘feedback’ too!

    • ugowoundo August 2, 2011 at 5:19 PM

ROTFL…omo u go fear… i almost had a heart attack….i’ve been fantazing about this chick as my wife ….now comes the celebrity i hate the MOST-UTI…taking her to the alter…THANK GOD IT’S ONLY A NIGHTMARE…*abeg make una try this joke again*

    • Nomy August 2, 2011 at 5:25 PM

Talk is so cheap its unbelievable! If this Royal wedding reenactment had been done by oyibo people, all the “wise” critics here would have been shouting Bravo! Now simply because its a Nigerian thing, people who do not know how to put thread in the eye of a needle have all come out to bad mouth the thing not give constructive criticism. It was a good initiative jo, as a marketing strategy, it worked for me! As entertainment, am definitely entertained and as a show of Talent, am most definitely impressed! Full Stop!

    • tseye August 2, 2011 at 6:00 PM

i guess copying the royal wedding is paying off, good for Mai! but to say that this looks better than Will’s & Kate’s, SERIOUSLY?!?! i understand being patriotic and all, still… anyway, i wish MAI the best and hope i would be able to afford one of his dresses when my time comes

    • Tomi A August 2, 2011 at 6:07 PM

Don’t b surprised if in few months you hear that these two are actually married…..

    • Sweet LIberty August 2, 2011 at 8:53 PM

wow @ all the “hateful” comments hidden behind the veil of criticism. unfortunately, thats the internet for u, it encourages cowards and bad belle people to say what they cant say to Mai’s face. understand the concept behind what Mai Atafo did. and like alot of people have pointed out……IT IS NOT A REAL WEDDING AND THE THEME WAS ‘ROYAL WEDDING’.///HABA. people who are saying he didnt even copy Kate’s dress well…u just show ur level of ignorance.
@ peperempe whos talkin about originality. u say he copied the dress design stitch for stitch. if u look at the neckline of both dresses u wud realise that they are not the same. so his intention wasnt to copy ‘stitch by stitch’.
enough of the hate already…frankly tired of seeing too many vile comments on BN.

    • somi August 2, 2011 at 9:29 PM

Really Uti and Muna are very beautiful individuals but MAI’s concept here is so not impressive… dis looks like a stage play in secondary school. the hall’s decoration is as shouty as d couple’s outfit…. MAI should have shown here dat he can make their outfits almost as exactly as d main characters dat he’s immitating here…. a good designer dats not popular can do alot better than dis really…. dis really lookis alot like a joke… Prince and Princess? yea right!!!!

    • marleen August 2, 2011 at 10:04 PM

    • Peperempe August 3, 2011 at 10:14 PM

I haven’t seen one hateful comment on this post. There have been the complimentary ones and the not so complimentary ones. Everyone doesn’t have to like the same things. Nigerians love validation and sycophancy. Geez! Someone says he doesn’t like something and all of a sudden he’s hating. As per my comment, don’t you find it funny that you could only find 1 difference ( apart from the obvious difference in quality and price ) between the two? Well all I’m saying is that as some other “commenters” have said, this show looks rather juvenile, but judged purely as a marketing tool, he couldn’t have done any better. He’s an excellent businessman

    • Sanni August 4, 2011 at 11:28 AM

Na wa for una CRITICS o! Una be FASHION DESIGNERS?. Nigerians sabi badmouth wetin them no go fit afford.. Every time i read comments on posts like this, all i read is ” oh the hair is badly done, the hair is so cheap the weave is so fake, the fabrics are so cheap, she’s not that pretty, he’s not that goodlooking, my stylist is better…” nigerians PLEASE next time time u post beefy comments about people, try and post ur pictures along so that we can see just how wonderfully made u are.. As for me i love the whole concept of the show, models inclusive.

    • Kathy August 8, 2011 at 2:11 PM

personally i cnt rili say cos i wasnt there but i think if he rili wanted to WOW ppl n come out as a “bridal designer” he should have done a more dramatic dress for d girl smthing dat would rili stand out…dis her dress doesnt have any wow factor no “jabon” in d dress it looks too flat…smthin fit for the runway would have been a better option

Check out Uti Nwachukwu’s next film! Uti needs your help to pledge and spread the word!

      http://www.YefonTheMovie.com

      THE STORY OF ‘YEFON’ ….

Written by 22 year-old African actress and filmmaker Sahndra Fon Dufe, ‘Yefon’ is the story of a young woman who defies her village’s customs to learn how to read and become educated only to face a death sentence as a result.

Inspired by women around the world who have faced similar circumstances, Ms. Fon Dufe and her production team have pledged to use a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the film, companion documentary, books and related merchandise to build an all-girls’ school in Nso, the village in Cameroon where Yefon’s story takes place.

Uti will be playing the dark Prince in this film.

Please feel free to message me for more access to the story.

    • Abi September 5, 2012 at 5:56 PM

Mai I think the main flaw of this bride’s outfit is that it wasn’t fitted to the model. Looks like it was intended for someone else but this Muna chic ended up getting the gig and a last minute fitting was attempted. The concept is good and would look stunning if only it was the right fit.

    • vivian November 2, 2013 at 2:52 PM

i still dont get this whole concept. so this is like a mock wedding just to show case the kate inspired wedding dress? na wa for nijah
