Gloria Maduka is a unique international singer-songwriter. Her music and dance styles are influenced by mainstream pop rock infused with African elements. While a young teenager in Nigeria, Gloria began to perform in church to large audiences before departing for the US to further pursue her career in music and college degrees.

She has developed a unique trademark which is enhanced by her ability to also write and sing in Yoruba and Spanish. Her techniques with the conga, bongo, and djembe among other percussion instruments set her apart from other female artists. In spite of Maduka graduating Magna Cum Laude and being the only Honors student in her graduating class, she gave up law school in pursuit of her music dreams.

Gloria Maduka’s debut album, “Of Light and Angels” is an eclectic mix of Alternative Rock, Pop, Reggae, and Soul, with her unique style of delivery blending all the tracks on the album together. It is a testimony that anyone can go as far as they can dream. It is a very personal album that speaks about life and love experiences which showcase Maduka from the heart.

We went to the same secondary school and she has always been a performer> she was a popular member of the drama club and everyone liked her. It was obvious she would go far….well done miss

    • maria October 14, 2011 at 10:01 PM

Very well put together. Keep doing Nigeria proud

    • Opeyemi Shyngle October 14, 2011 at 10:11 PM

Ay what secondary school did she go to? She looks very familiar. Great sound

      • lade October 15, 2011 at 10:41 AM

        She attended FGGC,oyo.

    • Dee-USA October 14, 2011 at 10:38 PM

Her vocals are a little sharp and she seems to lack range, based on just this song. I’d need to hear another song to make an a complete critique, but she just seems OK to me.

On another note, I’m just curious to know exactly how she could be the only one in her graduating class to graduate with honors, which at some schools begin as low as 3.0. For most schools, it starts at 3.5, and I’m still in disbelief. Not to take anything from her cos graduating Magna is impressive. I just don’t believe she was the only one in her entire class (not department) unless they were like 20 or less.

      • Stanley A October 14, 2011 at 11:05 PM

One criticism I have is the lighting on the first pic. it’s not bad but it does not pop like the second pic which I am sure is the album cover. but the girl can sing and why should somebody lie about their achievements. it is just entertainment. appreciate it or leave it alone. it should not always only be negative things we are quick to say. my criticism is not even for the artist but the photography and even that is not too serious.

      • Sultana October 15, 2011 at 1:54 PM

Ermm… Mrs Oversabi, there is a big difference between graduating with honors and being an honors student! The article specifically said HONOR STUDENT which means she took much more higher level content of course materials than her classmates basically they have more rigorous course load. They are also taught differently (its synanomous with ‘gifted class vs normal class’). So it is a big deal to be an honors student and still graduate with honors. While probably all the class graduated with honors but they were not honors students!

    • uchechi October 15, 2011 at 12:11 AM

compared to the yeye music these days in nigeria and even the world she is very good. the song is soft and subtle and it is not just pangolo that is a good song. mscheew

    • Another DEE October 15, 2011 at 3:15 AM

Response to Dee-USA. Well in my Master’s program we did have a handful of people that graduated with honors, however you had to get a straight 4.0 to graduate in honors in the graduate program. That being said, it is possible.

    • Funmilayo Coker October 15, 2011 at 5:51 AM

If you know GLORIA MADUKA, this girl has such a sweet, humble spirit and she is very hardworking. And very giving of herself. I have followed her career for a few years on twitter. it is not fair to just try to tear people down. Haters are all over the world but naija haters are intense. Support your own sometimes. DAMN!

    • undecided/decided October 15, 2011 at 9:47 AM

wow.. d only Magna Cum Laude in her class?
beauty brains and talent.. jst perfect.

      • Sultana October 15, 2011 at 2:07 PM

Sighs… why don’t you guys just get it! Comprehension is the key here.
She was probably not the only one, but she is the only one that did it as an HONORS STUDENT!

    • teebabe October 15, 2011 at 1:15 PM

      @opeyemi,its FGGC Oyo!

    • Festus October 15, 2011 at 3:07 PM

Nice soft refreshing……a break from the noise that we are fed with on the airwaves these days in the name of music…I hope Nigeria will embrace her..since we’ve been infected with the one beat fits all kind of music on parade..with similar rhymes, chants…of Moet, hennessy and shake ur what have you..NICEE….NICEEEE I say again!

    • ugochi anyaka October 15, 2011 at 3:38 PM

    • nich October 16, 2011 at 4:07 PM

there are still people like her that has even a good voice like waje, omawumi, tiwa savage……..but for the fact that she is pursuing her career in the states…..she has a lot of opportunities about.

atleast she is assured of quality videos and music including worlwide exposure and tour

    • nich October 16, 2011 at 4:12 PM

people like waje can be a storm in the states like rihana….it is only unfortunate that no one has told them the truth….
all she needs to do is to remove the pigin english from her music and write pure english songs….come to the states and look for a record label with her already made english songs…..
her nigerian ascertain would never be revealed while she sings just like gloria maduka

    • molly October 16, 2011 at 7:16 PM

In response to Opeyemi, She went to FGGC Oyo
