Political aspirants of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are in for a tough time in the coming 2015 General Elections as members of four opposition parties have endorsed a merger to present a united front against the PDP.
Premium Times reports that ten state governors from opposition parties including the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria People’s Party, (ANPP), All People’s Grand Allaince (APGA) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) held a closed-door meeting yesterday hosted by the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola.
The state governors present at the meeting and their representatives were Borno- Kashim Shettima, Imo- Rochas Okorocha, Lagos- Babatunde Fashola, Nassarawa – Tanko Almakura, Ogun- Ibikunle Amosun, Oyo- Abiola Ajimobi, Osun- Rauf Aregbesola, Zamfara – Abdulazziz Abubakar Yari and Yobe which was represented by Senator Jejere Alkali.
At the end of the meeting, the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima of the ANPP read a communiqué to journalists saying the governors reviewed the situation in the country, and then agreed that dethroning the PDP was critical to rescuing Nigeria from anarchy and underdevelopment.
“As progressive and patriotic leaders of our people across party, religious and geo political zones, we are extremely concerned about the state of the nation and we have put our heads together in the interest of our people to deliberate on what can be done to rescue our country”, the communiqué read. “As Governors, we fully endorse the merger initiatives already commenced by our various political parties and we will put our full weight behind these efforts.”
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha of APGA told Premium Times that the planned merger had become necessary to save the country from being turned into a one-party state and to make Nigeria a better nation.
On his part, the host governor, Babatunde Fashola of ACN said the meeting was about making Nigeria a better place. “I am convinced here that the full weight of ten of us governors and many more who unfortunately could not make it today is a much more stronger force and the underlying reason is clearly how to make this place a better place,” he was quoted as saying.
The question on everyone’s lips since this news started trending is – Who is going to be the Presidential candidate of the merged parties?

Fashola all the way mehhhhnnnnnn!
This is such welcoming news!!! I am glad… hopefully the choose a good candidate for presidency!!!
they*
This might actually be a good thing for Nigeria. I do not care for a one party state…scary.
Good news! Monopoly is never a good thing. PDP needs a rattle.
If this works out and this merged party is genuine, I personally would be impressed and proud! God bless all positive thoughts for Nigeria
without fashola being nominated as the nominee………forget about the merger…………
it is true that fashola may not have a plan for the poor if he becomes president………but by the time he leaves office…..he would have brought electricity and the structures to move nigeria forward and economic developement…………fashola is the only nigerian alive who can bring developement and make nigeria to reach the same developement in south africa the next 35yrs…………..
i believe that with fashola ………..there is a future for nigeria in 35yrs from now………….
EXACTLY!
let wait and see oooo…. http://www.gistyinka.com
Am in support o…sick n tired of PDP
All Progressive Congress (APC):These are the same recycled people. When will the youths have their time? Check the political pedigree of all of them, they are the same people on the landscape since God knows when. What do they have to contribute now that they couldnt contribute hitherto? Most of them are just looking for new platform to contest political positions, now they have it. Nothing has changed.
I believe that everytin dat has been happening in naija is for a reason, God has allowed us to suffer from d decision we made. Let’s be wise next time so we smile. God help us!!
this is a good idea, we are so over pdp and their corruption, its totally insane. But i hope this merger last as there might be issues on which candidate to nominate within them selves.lets not forget, apart from the general aim of getting rid of pdp/Gej, each governors would definity have their own hidden agenda.God fatherism too e.g tinubu with is shadiness might not make this work , but i believe in fashola, All the best to them.
Fashola is my choice…hopefully he’ll make a difference
