When you hear Duro Oyewunmi speak about eradicating gang culture in London, there is no mistaking the passion that resonates through him. We watch/read the news , hear/ read of the stabbing and the shooting amongst young people – it just makes your heart bleed.
Who are these young people? What is going on in the streets? How did these young people become like this? WHAT CAN WE DO TO ERADICATE GANG CULTURE?
When the young film maker, Duro, started shooting his film 247365 Change these were questions that stirred within his heart and then he concluded “If you don’t love them, you can’t reach out to them.” Launching the “I Stand For Change” campaign to bring about change he took a step towards making a change in his city.
In his speech at the launch, he mentioned that the first step isn’t looking for funds, it’s about having the compassion, seeking to help young people change their orientation, help them to avoid slipping back into a lifestyle. The campaign is to help show young street kids that there’s other ways to make money outside of selling drugs and robbing people.
We hope that more people would make positive strides towards building a better society. It starts with taking the first selfless step of compassion.

Good initiative. Many dumb Nigerian kids are getting sucked in. Hopefully, this message could make them seek alternatives to gang banging.
I agree with you. I am starting to know too many Nigerian kids sucked up (and even losing their lives) to this thing. This morning on LBC, one of the guys who came on to talk about the disbanding of operation TRIDENT (Black-on-black crime/murders) said gang culture is changing and no longer about yardies – more about African kids. That broke my heart.
Passion always creates the necessary environment to effect a change in any situation. That is why change starts from within and then reflects on the outside. It’s only a matter of time because one thing is sure and that is as long as there are people who are passionate about changing the lives of those who represent the future, there is hope for the world. I stand for change.
