Yvonne Okoro celebrates 29th Birthday in Special School in Accra - November 2013 - BellaNaija007

A happy belated birthday to Yvonne Okoro.

Yesterday Monday 25th November 2013, the Ghanaian movie star turned 29. She chose to celebrate her day by commissioning a playground she built for disadvantaged persons at the Dzorwulu Special School in Accra.

The Special School is home to a number of special children in Ghana and the playground was built to provide a recreational platform for the students to entertain themselves.

Yvonne got her b-day swag on in a stylish sleeveless blue-and-white top and matching pants, gold drop earrings and a pair of black Christian Louboutin heels.

She was accompanied to the school by the Deputy Minister of Education, Ghana – Okudzeto Ablakwa as well as John Dumelo, Sandra Ankobiah, Irene Logan, Roseline Okoro and former Black Stars footballer Stephen Appiah. They came to show their support as well as cut Yvonne’s brithday cake at the event.

At the event, she revealed she was motivated to help build the playground when she visited 2 years ago;

“When I was leaving, I realized that the playground was in a deplorable state. The metals were all rusted. So I told myself that, I won’t stop till I’m able to provide a good recreational centre for the students of this school so that at the end of the day, they can also pride themselves of having a beautiful playground.  That was the most important thing for me. And I wanted to thank everyone who supported this project.”

Highlights of the day include a rendition of the Ghanaian National Anthem by singer Irene Logan, a dance performance by some of the students, fun music from a DJ, and delicious pastries by Bakeshop Classics and food by Grill Bar Filli B.

Great, wonderful work. Not the one that person will go and drop indomie and say he’s done charity…

Love, love her outfit. Yvonne but you for close eye now when prayer is going on haba!

    • Unknown November 26, 2013 at 1:15 PM

Oh, so this is the trend now huh? Do something charitable on your birthday and lets publicize it to the whole world! I don’t have anything against celebrities being charitable, I think it should be encouraged but if its really all about charity, remove the publicity from it.

      • Grace E November 26, 2013 at 4:30 PM

I agree..give with your left hand and the right hand doesnt need to know..it’s a good thing to help the needy but it is undoubtedly the new trend amongst celebrities both home and abroad!!!

        • Kehinde November 27, 2013 at 10:58 AM

I agree with you. Many people do this daily and do not let any other person know except those involved. This is when God personally rewards the person. But if publicity is involved for people to praise you, you have already got your reward in full. This is in the bible in Matthew 6:3

      • Berry November 26, 2013 at 6:28 PM

        thank you.

    • YEYEAREWA November 26, 2013 at 1:16 PM

Ok! its now a trend 4 celebs to spend their bdays in either orphanages or schools. not a bad idea if and only if they real mean it and its nt just a publicity stunt

      • Missy November 26, 2013 at 1:55 PM

I don’t think the beneficiaries really care if it’s a
publicity stunt as long as they get those things for real.

    • Uche November 26, 2013 at 1:18 PM

Now that’s what i call community service. weldone Yvonne… Okoro…..not Nelson

    • Missy November 26, 2013 at 1:25 PM

“Happy belated birthday”? Nah, I’m sure her birthday went on just fine. Only your ‘happy birthday greeting’ is belated.
That being said, well done Yvonne.

    • Ada Nnewi November 26, 2013 at 1:30 PM

      God bless her!

    • smashingM November 26, 2013 at 1:34 PM

      Oya! follow follow start

    • whocares November 26, 2013 at 2:01 PM

I am still very sceptical as to the reasons for the
birthday charities, but its for the greater good is how I see it.
the kids that need help get it. if its once a year or if it is done
to revive a celebrity’s dying career, skewed as the motive may be,
I am glad they thought to get their publicity thought this means.
its all about the less fortunate ones they help. If “follow follow
starts”, its a good thing to follow.

    • Emmz November 26, 2013 at 2:11 PM

Happy birthday Yvonne . Please who knows what kind of hair
she has on. It’s awesome. :)

    • billionaire in grace November 26, 2013 at 2:25 PM

Wow nice…but those kids looks old for this kind of playground

    • slice November 26, 2013 at 2:35 PM

that is such a worthy venture. God bless.

    • Felinda November 26, 2013 at 2:54 PM

Bill Gates does a lot of charities of which he never publicizes. Its always these new money miss road ppl, always calling cameras, tocome look at them giving charity. I know a simple and rich ghanaian (he is into farming and transportation) who pays for school fees for 111 kids. he never publicize it until years later it was revealed when one of the kids was graduating from havard. He hates publicity of his charities because he saids he stands by MATTHEW 6: 1-4 – which i think all these so called celebrities need to learn from – IT IS WRITTEN IN THE BIBLE (Unless you are athiest then i understand)
      Giving
6 When you do good deeds, don’t try to show off. If you do, you won’t get a reward from your Father in heaven.

2 When you give to the poor, don’t blow a loud horn. That’s what show-offs do in the meeting places and on the street corners, because they are always looking for praise. I can assure you that they already have their reward.

3 When you give to the poor, don’t let anyone know about it.[a] 4 Then your gift will be given in secret. Your Father knows what is done in secret, and he will reward you.

      • Grace E November 26, 2013 at 4:53 PM

        PREACH!!!!

      • Girl Bye! November 27, 2013 at 1:19 PM

The whole point of them to publicise it as celebrities is to use their platform (fame) increase awareness for that particular cause thus hopefully encouraging fans and others to support the cause. High net worth individuals have a choice to keep their donations private or public; sometimes they publicise it to increase awareness other times they don’t need to. I trust you now understand how this works now; it has nothing to do with class, just everything to do with her role in society

It’s funny because if she had a champagne bath for her birthday, people would’ve crictised her, she donates to charity and she’s insulted! Lol! Why are our people like this?

Anyway, have a nice day x

    • Mercee November 26, 2013 at 3:12 PM

      @ Felinda, thank you!

    • Exactly! November 26, 2013 at 3:56 PM

      Thank you.

    • Akunna November 26, 2013 at 4:35 PM

This chic sabi joor. You will get an engagement ring soon. kudos.

    • Shesaid November 26, 2013 at 4:51 PM

      Her outfit though….

    • Why November 26, 2013 at 5:01 PM

Haba!! Anything you do people will talk. Those who don’t show the charity they do, people will complain that they don’t do, and those who do and show too, people will still talk

    • Ibukun November 26, 2013 at 5:24 PM

who cares about the motive? what is your business with the motive? as long as they don’t go back after the cameramen have left to collect the gifts, who really cares? it is a win-win situation for crying out loud; if it is a publicity stunt, they get the publicity they want and the people in need get the gifts, everybody is happy! If it is a gesture born out of love, they get the fulfillment they want, the people in need get their gifts, and everyone is still happy! so why on earth are people complaining? most of the people complaining have never donated a tenner in their lives before oh. *sigh* if it is a new trend amongst celebrities, don’t you think it is an awesome trend?! better than velvet and lace???!

    • just saying November 26, 2013 at 6:09 PM

good job yvonne! @felinda what is she publicizing? make dem no take picture again ? abeg take back seat putting it here serves as a good example and it motivates more of us to give back including you so start doing something instead of coming to BN with your negativity!

    • ij November 26, 2013 at 6:15 PM

to be honest I’d rather this playground than the countless foundations that all these celebrities have that have zero output or all those indomie donations that we cant be sure who exactly ends up eating it .
We desperately need output, at least with this playground its intended for kids and will be used by them .so i’m gonna have to say WELL DONE YVONNE

    • temitope November 26, 2013 at 6:58 PM

Well done yvonne, one of the few ghanian actresses I love, that being said , if u do not want to reveal your real age , simply say you clocked a year older, its better than this fake age you re claiming to be ….you are not 29 honey.

      • Audrey November 26, 2013 at 7:50 PM

please temitope, Do you know her personally?
She was my mate at uni and I know she was a year my junior in secondary school.I am 29 and that’s the average age for most of my classmates, she can’t be lying about this one.

      • chichi November 26, 2013 at 10:33 PM

        TRUE! lol

    • dlapikin November 26, 2013 at 7:48 PM

It’s a good thing she did. She built something that number of generations of children will enjoy. It is clearly not something she did overnight cause it required planning and construction. Good job. Way better than boxes of indomi indeed.

    • Winny November 26, 2013 at 8:23 PM

Ghanaians doing humanitarian things the useful and lasting way while Nigerians are packing Indomie and bags of Rice that has no lasting impact on these Motherless babies homes and Orphanages they all keep trooping to to celebrate one thing or the other. SMH

    • Tee November 26, 2013 at 11:01 PM

    • naijababe November 27, 2013 at 12:43 PM

      HER LIL SIS

    • Chi December 6, 2013 at 11:19 AM

Why are some people always adamant about calculating other people’s ages? How does it add or subtract from anyone’s life? Please leave Yvonne alone. She has done something worthy of emulation and deserves to be thanked. Thanks Yvonne! I pray God provides a lot more for you to use in blessing others.

    • Sister Abena December 7, 2013 at 6:24 AM

Why people talk like that she really did well. Even if she looks like hundred years what is ththeir problem. Only fools can talk like. God bless you yevonn. N you are really beautiful to.
