Africa Women’s Championship: Fans commend Super Falcons over 6-0 victory against Zambia

Some football fans have commended Super Falcons over their 6-0 victory against Group A counterpart, Zambia, in the ongoing African Women Championship (AWC) in Namibia.

The fans told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja that the team had made the country proud.

Ahmed Umar, a Tailor in Utako Market, said he was not surprised that the team thrashed its opponents.

“The girls did so well and I am not surprised they won.

“They knew what they wanted and they went for it. I am sure that they will win this championship,” he said.

Frank Okara, a school teacher, said that the team played a good game, saying that the team had impressed him.

“The Falcons played with great zeal and commitment. They fought hard and that is what we expect of a national team, unlike the Super Eagles.

“I am very impressed and by the grace of God they will win the competition,” Okara said.

James Akwao, an Engineer, said that the team’s hard work had paid.

“If you see a team that is working hard, you will know. The girls have tried and their hard work has paid.

“Eagles need to learn from them. Falcons are good at everything. They are focused and their set pieces are  good,” Akwao said.

Maureen Maude, a student said: “the Falcons showcased great team spirit and patriotism. They should just work on their defence.

“I am optimistic that the girls will bring the cup home”.

NAN reports that the Super Falcons defeated Cote D’Ivoire 4-2 in their first group match on Saturday and will battle host Namibia on Friday.

The AWC serves as the qualifier for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada, with the top three teams at the competition qualifying to represent Africa.
