My Style: Uche Iheuk

Carlotte Russe blue zipper top i turned into a dress by wearing it like that lolIt’s your regular dose of the BN feature; My Style! If you are interested in appearing on this page, simply send two pictures of yourself or that of a friend depicting a typical Day and Night Look with a short summary of your style to my mail box: [email protected]

When your entry is approved, you will be required to send in more pictures and personal commentaries on your style or that of your friend as the case may be! Thanks to those who have participated so far, keep the emails coming.

Let’s remember that this feature is about appreciating an individual’s expression through clothing!

BellaNaija reader, Uche Iheuk doesn’t set style boundaries and gets a kick out of her DIY dress fixes!

I would describe my style as “rephisticated”, basically that means it is retro but at the same time sophisticated. I enjoy belting almost everything I wear just because I love the classic 50’s curvaceous silhouette. I recently became a tights junkie and have fishnets and lace stockings. I like to dress accordingly to how I feel and love to put things together and create my own unique signature. As a minor in college and fashion lover who can handle a sewing machine, I do some DIY; I cut stuff up and add however I like.

I love my style because it really sets me apart. I have no set look; I go with my mood and what I feel like wearing. I dislike wearing things when they are “reigning” so to speak, because then you know everyone will have it. Almost every accessory I have I bought after they went “out” e.g. my tights and suspenders and the belts. I like to do my own thing, sometimes I go with what I see in magazines but most times, “Uche just does Uche”

I am a bubbly person and my fashion expresses it fully. I love colour and texture. I’m just that odd person in my group of friends. Just like I listen to every genre of music, I love rocking everything from Afghans to even fedoras that I’m not a huge fan of. I’m up to try anything in life and it transcends into my personal style.

I like people who see me to know that you do not have to drop $200 to have a banging outfit. Cheap can be quality…don’t listen to what they say about the pricier the better. Clothes change with the seasons so wasting money on one particular item may be worth it if it has Louis Vuitton written on it, but at the end of the day when it goes out of style you may feel stupid for buying it. The best way to keep an edgy wardrobe is to mix and match buy cheap and expensive and wear them together. I believe in buying pieces rather than total outfits that you may have seen in a magazine or on a mannequin. Just because others can rock it does not mean you can. It’s so much fun being a girl, so don’t waste time and money like men who buy one pair of CK jeans and because of its costly price wear it everywhere. Dress up DAMMIT!! Mixing the old with the new, the piece that cannot stand on its own with one that can, the dark with the light, the cheap with the expensive and the vapid with the ostentatious!!

My hair always varies as I’m always changing it. I love keeping my hair interesting and exciting and I change my hair do every 3 to 5 weeks. I don’t think I’ve ever had a certain style longer than that. I like to think that I’m not boring, so my hair expresses that and can’t be flat. Unfortunately I am a weave queen, why? Because for me, I have more style options with weave in your hair than without it!

Decided to put blonde weave in to see how it looked!

In the daytime I can rock the same makeup I would in the night. I have no preference for what makeup and when to use it. If I’m feeling summery I may use a combination of orange and purple on my eyelids. The only makeup I save for the night is really rich charcoal smoky eye because that is too much for the daytime, unless I’m going to church in which case I use whatever I want to. I use makeup depending on how I feel that day or night. I am a huge makeup junkie, not because I look bad without it but because I like a different look everyday. I have done almost everything involving eye shadow, one colour swept over my lids, two tones and even three shades. I’m running out of ideas and colours to use on my lids. I don’t really use foundation because it’s heavy on my skin and may cause me to break out. I’m basically eyeliner, eye shadow and mascara…..and I love to have my lip gloss dripping because it’s popping!! LOL!!

My day look depends on my mood and I usually get dressed up!!! I believe people judge you based on how you look so I always try to look like a star. I hardly wear hoodies and sweats and I save my jeans for the winter, because I rarely ever wear jeans in the summertime, it’s too hot for that! I usually wear summer dresses and shorts for my daytime look. I may wear flats but I absolutely love WEDGES and wear them almost all the time. I also reserve sneakers for when it’s cold because I love sandals and I have more sandals than I do sneakers.

I love nail polish especially crazy neon colours and also, because most of my wardrobe is black I love to have popping bright shoes. I cannot live without my handbags!!! I love them oversized…forget little bags even when and if they come back I’m sticking to my huge knapsacks!!! And incase you could not tell, Rihanna is my style guru and sometimes Keri Hilson. Gotta love em both!!!
My accessories always have to change and match depending on my outfit. I usually wear pearls or studs when I’m going either preppy or sophisticated. I lovvvvvvvvve gold accessories and wear them usuallyout at night. Silver also could be a “night” accessory for me. I dislike beads (except for the bohemian looking ones or the glass beads) especially the plastic looking ones that come in various colours…they should all be burned.

At night I hardly ever wear jeans, expect on occassion when am in the mood.  I stick to my staple black shorts or my several dresses or skirts, pencil or bubble. I always wear heels at night even If I’ve been in them all day to class. Stilettos can make any outfit dressed up so I always wear them even if its just to a friends get together…I need my heels (lol). (Plus I have a short woman’s complex because I’m only 5’4…so yea that adds to it)

My natives were made under my mothers’ supervision but I had my own vision. So I cut it up and put pieces together as I saw fit. Even turning a big old head tie into a dress for my schools fashion show. Man it seems like I’ve done it all…my style simply states UNIQUE!! It’s just me, being me!

I turned the scarf from my lace into a top with a few safety pins. The purple shoulder hang is also a scarf.

This is the first time i have ever commented on my style…and the reason why i am commenting today is because today’s MY STYLE is a train wreck with lots of encouraging platitudes..who the hell is she encouraging to mix zany with crazy???……The next my style should just quietly put up her pictures and allow us to judge her instead of trying to describe their wack ass looks like it is refreshing and original….Her Hair is cheap looking and wack….those eyelashes are ATROCIOUS…the makeup is a MESS…and the clothes are just ..shocking….One good thing is that Uche is very pretty…i think she has a great face and great legs!! But i wish she would just pick the right outfit for herself…when will people learn that less is more…if she would just put some 14 inch 3 packs of 1 straight Outre hair it in a 40s do…pick up a nice sophisticated black or white dress in the style of audrey hepburns breakfast at tiffany’s (little black dress) and pair it with Black round toe. pumps (would go well with a navy blue version of that dress or cream pumps for a white version of the dress)..pair it with black verrryyy sheer tights with retro line going down the back.and hook herself up with some mac dark eye and ruby red lips…she would be REPHISTICATED…what i am seeing…is CHEAP rainbow crap…CRAP CRAP CRAP!

Glad to be the first to say, wonderful style page. My favourite items are the leopard booties and the tartan dress (I’m still hunting for a tartan mini skirt 🙂 )

I must admit I’m starting to judge style pages just for the photography, and your photos are great, you really can pose :P.

Is there anything I don’t like? Umm.. well it doesn’t matter because really it’s your style.

The only thing I will say is that apart from the first few pictures, most of these outfits don’t look very casual, but I understand because you mentioned that you ‘always try to look like a star’, also you must be immune to heels now, since you have what I also struggle with; ‘short woman’s complex’.

Anyways, keep doing your thing and kudos to you for submitting your style page 🙂 Now watch the rest of the vultures dive on your page 😛

PLEASE LOSE THAT CHEAPASS RAINBOW BELT! at least go to forever 21 and pick up one with more dignity…that belt looks like it costs 2.99…

  11. Tallchica

    August 5, 2009 at 3:27 am

There is such a thing as ‘short woman’s complex’? I thought only us tall girls got the “short” end of the stick. At 6-1.5 the “omg, ur tall” comments get irritating…but never thought short girls had that issue. I particularly like the senegalese scarf ensemble…very creative (and if I may say, cost effective)….keep doing your thing!

    August 5, 2009 at 3:50 pm

I could have sworn this was about someone else’s style.. and not what will look good on you! please correct me if I am wrong!! As for yall commenting that her clothes look cheap… ummm if u’d taken the time to read the article instead of trying to find what looks expensive.. you would notice that she did mention that you don’t have to buy big to look nice!! Instead of supporting the young lady.. you guys are calling her cheap. So what if she prefers to shop on a budget that does not make her cheap.. it means not everyone wants to spend an arm and a leg on an outift that may or may not look good on you as an individual! Young girl I applaude your style keep it up!! 🙂

    August 5, 2009 at 3:56 pm

Every time I read the comments on this My Style feature, I’m just reminded how unnecessarily vicious naija chicks are, then add the relative anonymity of the internet and its a free for all. There’s a difference between offering an opinion/giving some criticism and being downright nasty. If you don’t like her style, a simple “i don’t like it” will suffice. But trust all these frustrated immature girls to come here and start posting nonsense, as if they suffer from diarrhea of the fingertips. I can bet good money that half of these e-critics won’t say pim to anyone’s face.

For the record, I don’t find Uche’s style to be appealing to me, but if she likes it, i love it.

nice body, beautiful smile, gorgeous skin. I’m not sure about some of the hair and makeup, but that can be fixed

  26. sylvia

    August 5, 2009 at 4:04 pm

tell em’ girl. they really need to know the difference between giving opinion and criticism. because they way these chicks go about it is so wrong. there is really no point it talking smack, because apparently uche loves her fashion. for example i think her make-up is to loud, and needs to be toned down a little. its a fashion advice not criticism, and frankly it’s up to her to take the advice or leave it. all these insults other girls r giving her is just wrong

  27. Fashion stylist

    August 5, 2009 at 4:35 pm

I am not here to fight anyone…Half of the Nigerian girls on this forum dress like this uche girl anyway…i am tired of attending events and seeing nigerian girls wearing spandex, glitter earrings and cheap leather belts…It is her STYLE ..yes…but she shouldnt come on here giving advice and ways to mix and Match her crap…the last girl who was on here with the rubic’s cube purse…she was so cute and her style was quite fresh and she just stated her purpose in the right way..No evaluations or advice…just straight up “i am wearing this and that”…all these girls need to take a leaf from her book…dont try to convince me that ur style is bomb..ITS NOT!..I read her “description” before my pictures loaded..and expected something cute…by the time it loaded i was Pleasantly SURPRISED…..Tacky…is an understatement…Can i use this opportunity to beg everyone to throw away the PLASTIC colorful jewelry..the yellow bracelets, the red beads…and please if you dont money BUY clothes from forever 21..they have cute stuff there…RAINBOW and LVLX are Banned!!!..everything there is tacky looking and cheap!..stripper looking items loll…Try small…
She said and i quote, I dont wear reigning things..i wear them later in the years…i mean thats all cool and everything…but why is she wearing an ENTIRE outfit from 2005?…At least match the suspenders with something current like tailored pants…Instead of looking like she just stepped out of a time machine…Get with the times .. and…I am not insulting her…i am just defending my self from her horrific style…She needs a Do- OVER! …Yes i can put my picture here and i can promise you one thing…You will all bite your tongues!

Hear Hear Girls…..Why must we always be so darn bitchy? As mentioned above….since when was a simple “i don’t like it” not enough. I think it is ridiculous to lay into the poor girl and Bella, there are some super negative people you need to ban from your site who bring negative energy to every post!

  33. tralala

    August 5, 2009 at 5:55 pm

Bella, I think some kind of banning of these nasty individuals will do. Hiring someone to get rid of such nasty comments would go a long way in helping this amazing site of yours. The HATERS within Nigerian communities are great in number. GET a life. pls – This is to those who have time to write paragraphs full of hatred. What does your heart even look like? Please, treat others the way you would like to be treated. Girls, let that stupid, stupid, stupid hatred go. You don’t even know these people. Stop thinking with your toes. MY GOD!!!

Wow….why are people jocking her? At least she came out and said she styles herself on the cheap…no shame in that. She is comfortable in her style and confident that she looks good (which she actually does in most pictures), regardless of the cost of her clothing. Its you guys that have the problem….cheap can also be stylish. Naija girls…please get off your high horse.

wat i love about her wardrobe is how ‘recyclable’ (for the use of a better word) she makes it,u dont necessarily have to have the biggest closet to look different everytime and yes i am proud people, just like her to be cheap!dere are just some things that the cheap and the expensive version are like the same thing,so why waste the cash?

  37. findus

    August 5, 2009 at 7:13 pm

in my opinion, having fashion sense is not about emptying the bank and overwhelming people with expensive things. It is all about knowing what works for you and combining those things for a unique look. You do not have to wear designer clothes to be trendy. As the saying goes you can buy fashion but you cannot buy style. On that note, I must commend her on her bold fashion choices, that is what makes her unique. You may not like it but you do not have to be insulting or make derogatory comments. If you hate it so much why don’t you submit your pictures for others to criticise and insult. We should be respectful of others and not resort to malice. It just shows immaturity and downright cruelty.

If you have been on any of the previous mystyles you know that people start posting personal comments and insults about these girls. I never said i could pull off this stuff or that it is all good, but i like people who don’t look like everybody else. I am not saying those who don’t like it are all haters and there is no need to lose your home training all over that one statement – what is the reasoning behind asking me to shut the hell up? please face your front, do your research and say what you want to say and don’t start cursing me out. mtchw

The meanness of some of the comments is unneccessary. Generally Naija females are very hateful to one another when it comes to physical looks and material stuff. When they see a pretty girl shining it boils their blood and they won’t rest until they find something to say about her, real or imagined. I have been on the receiving end of this and that is why today I don’t bother. It is one thing to say “I don’t like this outfit” or “that outfit could have been tweeked by doing this or that”. But to come out and call someone you don’t know “tacky” and “loud” is uncalled for and spiteful. “Tacky” or “loud” connotes a character trait, which you cannot base on one’s clothing.

Some of the outifts that Uche has on are quite nice. Some need to be reworked. She is young and experimenting, which is okay given her age. It’s not like she is in her 40s desperately trying to hang on to youth by wearing age inappropriate clothing. Anyways, Uche has the body and face to rock the outifits and that is hard to do if one buys clothes at Rainbow given that you have to be model-thin to wear Rainbow clothes, which are cut small. The fact that she bought some of the outfits from Rainbow is of no moment and most of thos criticizing probably are too fat to fit Rainbow clothes and that is what’s paining them. We are in a recession afterall and she may be on a budget like most of the world that has been impacted by the global recession. So get off her case. Those that are criticizing her clothes b/c of where she bought it should stop acting like they never bought jack from Rainbow, Forever 21, LVLX, Lucaya…you get my drift. If it bothers anyone so much where Uche buys her clothes then take her shopping at Neiman Marcus or Nordstroms on your dime and get it out your system. If you think Uche is so bad then PLEASE submit your banging style photos for us to see and don’t forget to mention that you disliked Uche’s style so that we can compare and contrast and know who has the better style. Have a nice day.

well i got the impression that you were like EVERYBODY else on bella naija.
you dont even know these people i guess.
when someone says why they dont like something and they explain why, people always start harassing them and calling them a hater, simply because they dont like something.
if i dont like a song and i say its garbage, people start attacking me calling me a hater simply because i dont like something.
MOST PEOPLE on this site think you have to like something or that makes you a hater if you dont.
i figured you were the other 100 people on bella.

Lolll….true talk oh! no need to be hateful..ok.. but note that fortunately ….and well unfortunately there is something called freedom of speech right…people will always say what they want to say…sometimes bcos u can’t see the person upfront u can’t fully grasp the person’s intent..bottom line is everyone should be able to pick the tangibles from the intangibles. don’t dwell on the -ve but on the +ve…everyone is guilty of teasing, mocking or laughing at another’s style, actions etc….

back to the issue…I don’t like all the pieces but hey u are young and the economy is tight right? so thumbs up………don’t take anything u see on this page personal…take the positive and tweek ur style a little if u feel the need to…

    August 6, 2009 at 3:36 pm

Fashion stylist, now that you have said all of this, do you feel better about yourself? Have you, by stating your opinion, made the world a more fashionable place? Better yet, are you going to help take a bill to Congress and ban Rainbow and LVLX and really save the world from cheap clothing?
The way you’re recommending Forever 21 over rainbow, na wa, as if one has better quality, don’t you know the clothing in both stores come out of the exact same factories in China? Madam stylist biko nobody is paying you on here, abeg keep your fashion advice for your paying customers.
It is too bad that more girls like you don’t know that their message is lost if the delivery is bad. There are more polite and tactful ways to get your message across, the way you’re going about it makes people think you’re angry or didn’t get hugged enough as a child. You’re making it too easy for people to label you a hater (2nd most overused word on Bella Naija) and ignore the content of your comment.

  60. Fashion stylist

    August 6, 2009 at 4:37 pm

Oh and whoever said designer items look like regular clothes?..are you insane? When you are looking at your array of bright pink and yellow payless shoes, and spandex bright colored clothing, dont try to convince yourself it looks as good as Chanel or Balmain…oh and according to you guys, i probably just learnt that yesterday..right…ugh.

  61. My-feet-hurt

    August 6, 2009 at 4:47 pm

You needn’t have answered anybody really, atimes bella naija is just full of trolls who have nothing better to do but sit and guard the gates of the website waiting to pounce on any and everything that doesn’t suit their taste(as if)…

To that one that mentioned Audrey Hepburn and breakfast at tiffanys…girl child you must have lost your darn mind.Ain’t it funny how people like you assume that because you choose a user name that has “fashion” in it, automatically confers upon you the exclusive rights to bestow upon other lesser “unstylish” people your oh so wise tips?
    She/He/ mentions OUTRE?
Since we talking cheap,i.e going by your oh-so expensive taste..buahahahahahaha….
So OUTRE is really the BEST you could come up with?
ahn ahn..aunty ODENISTA the Fashionista…but OUTRE is still on the lower end of the spectrum now,i would have assumed that a whole bigz gerlxz like you would be talking the hundreds of pounds of quid /weighed only pure russian/peruvian/brazilian or indian human hair now…you still dey on top OUTRE…my left nipple..

It beats me HOW in the hell people cannot draw the line between stating their views/opinion in a civil manner rather than a manner that shows they are full of bile, bitter and with serious underlying issues bordering on a form of complex..(superiority or inferiority..pick one)
NOTHING gives you a right to ATTACK the girl on such a personal level,UNLESS you are know are,are extremely childish and been looking for an avenue to say trash in her face..(thank God for the net eh?)

Your rant has gone to show that you have a very high opinion of yourself and something tells me and tickles me to no end that were we to be violated by YOUR personal “style”,you will be torn to pieces.
Your grouse with Nigerian girls and their way of dressing which offends your senses is laughable at best,i know your type, you think you know it all,yet for every word you drip from your burst mouth like a leaky tap in oshodi market, you prove you ain’t sh*t,just another desperate wannabe..
If Uche came on here singing about balenciaga purses and swarovski encrusted bangles,or colored bangles from a design house, with balmain jeans and zanotti heels, you will be the first to sing her praises and comment on “how so fierce and fab” she looks…

Child you are a walking paradox…..Even in your know-it-all attitude you remain perpetually shackled to your ignorance,YOUR life must be sweet.JOKER!!!

Uche,i wouldn’t wear your stuff as to me my style is more should i say safe,,i guess at a certain age some of us just “retire” from the experimenting stage and stick to all that is safe and looks good on us.Besides my thick legs can never carry off your short shorts,so keep doing you,as for those eyelashes…DIVA BABY….i’d do a drive by on them ANYDAY and snatch them off,i LOVE exagerated eye make up etc…

Have fun and let your haters keep eating doo-doo….they serve no other purpose.

Bella you need to start attaching a caveat to this Mystyle segment.Unless we are of the ghetto mentality,we should know that JUST because we can, doesn’t mean we should.

Ah han….chillax oh! You can’t now start cursing an entire demographic because you are a self styled fashion icon, take it easy abeg. Sounds like you are developing a god complex….Its just fashion…really, in the grand scheme of things no-one give a rats arse.

LMAO! sweetheart.. the comment about tailored pants.. ummm.. I think they didnt just come out this year or last or the year before that.. that shows how “current with the times” you are! And yes she can come and say how to mix and match the same way your coming on this website to talk about Audrey Hepburn as if you have a darn clue who she is and what she stood for.

Ok Amaka I’ve always supported your ‘state your opinion, you are entitled to it’ view but I think here you are soooo out of line to have attacked wordsmith, especially without reason. Wordsmith stated a FACT, people always hate on the mystyle posts. At this point you seem to have developed a personal bias that every ‘hater’ comment has some ‘amaka diagnosis’ underlining it. You are wrong.
…now can we move on to other comments/posts without over-whining on this thread?

Where is the love? kai, it’s simple, safe and not over the top like other styles that we’ve seen so far, let her breathe ppl, It’s her style at d end of d day, fashion isn’t bout how cheap or how expensive your outfits are,it’s how u wear it n what you make of it and not what people think of you, loads of people here haven’t got guts to do what she’s done, so beat it guys or reserve ur comments, haba!

  70. BiggestBossThusFar

    August 6, 2009 at 10:05 pm

Her style is actually pretty flat… She can do wayyyy better on a budget. She looks like she shops at the mall which is actually a bad option if she’s trying to stand out as she claims to do.
A better option would be thrift stores. They do a better job at setting you apart from everyone else and it’s a cheaper option (if not the cheapest). So there is no need for the disses because she shops on a budget. This is a style blog not a spending one. So ignorant people need not contribute their uninformed opinions.

Whilst comments on my style column never ever cease to make me laugh, (evil I know but hey!) I think Bella should just disable comment thread and instead put a poll vote instead, that way people can vote whether they LIKE, HATE OR are INDIFFERENT…

This will eliminate vicious personal attacks that is becoming oh-so-common on this site…It is quite obvious now that, there are a lot of “educated fools” on the internet who do not have basic home training, which is why they do not know how to pass criticism in a civilised manner!!!

Like someone rightly said, if you are unnecessarily rude in the delivery of you opinion/view on a subject, you also lose your audience.

  80. oga o

    August 7, 2009 at 3:32 pm

hahaha hilarious comments well well well let me bring it all in 2 perpective if i may. Uche is a very pretty girl with lovely skin and has done a comendable and admirable thing of not going over the top in trying to look good infact she has some really nice pieces.

however, there is a difference btw buying cheap stuff and looking cheap and im afraid on this occassion the latter is the case, its d same way one can buy expensive stuff and still look cheap if not properly combined. so i think if uche buys some cheap stuff let me say a cheap beautiful dress and rocks it with some really decent slighlty more expensive weaves or more pricey or ‘expensive looking’ jewelry then it would all balance out cus i think if u were cheap stuff from head to toe lets just say ‘fashion stylist’ will come after you. and if a person wears LV or Gucci from head to toe they would just look like a proper mgbeke or nu money so D KEY IS TO BALANCE IT ALL OUT (I think that is what every1 has been trying to say although some are quite vicious about it as u probably expected lol)

on that note i do understand where fashion stylist is coming from, she has a lot of valid point although she cld have presensted it better (but its still funny though lol)

o well, well done uche 4 putting urself out here knowing ‘d vultures’ will eat u up. hope u see this as constructive criticism u dnt hav 2 take d avice though as u said it is ur style. 🙂

ok u know what…this rubbish needs to end here!!! my inbox keeps filling up only to recieve hateful notifications from all u catty females.
look its as simple as abc….if yall even went to school….like ur parents taught those of us with hometraining….”if you dont have anything nice to say then dont say anything at all”
on here talkin bout im classless and all that jazz…those of you opening your disrespectful mouths to not just insult my style but then to start insulting me and my personality….now thats TACKY and CLASSLESS!!!
im not askin you to wear what im wearing im just SHOWING yall…SHOWING yall my style. i wudnt wear what i see half yall wearing at Naija reunion trynna overdo everything to get men’s attention, but thats your business.
if i wanna shop at the dollar store na my business….if i wanna go to the salvation army na my business too.
if any critique is gonna be made then it shud be on individual outfits…all that anyone is saying is how “cheap” it looks….which to me is rude and uncalled for…so either give constructive criticism or keep it moving!!!

    August 8, 2009 at 12:43 am

I loove your style, very creative and unique, i believe you have talent when it comes to clothing and style….dont mind half the people here yarning dust, they just hating because they would NEVER be able to put together the outfits you have up there…..and for all those people talking about her being cheap, well then scroll back to the top and read, yes thats right read what she said, she prefers mixing cheap with expensive, if you have a problem with that then go and die somewhere, or better yet use all of ur paycheck to buy expensive clothes, then you’ll start looking for rent money!!!!
Nigerian people too dey talk rubbish when they think they have style, just because you read glamour, cosmo and the rest does not mean you have style, someone put that outfit together and you are just there waiting to copy and buy the knockoffs!!!!!

1st of all it doesn’t Matter where she got her Clothings from, that doesnt define your style. Many designer clothes or accessories “wear” out on u sometimes, Trust me and it feels like a WASTE OF MONEY .
2ndly, this is a Blog and everyone is free to give their ideas. Banning commnts isnt necessary becuz dts what makes d world go round. U dnt expct everyone to love ur style their has to be sum criticisms, d fct u can post it on here u shld b able to handle d heat.
3rdly i love d fact that u are happy and comfortable with what u wear, that’s what defines style “Boldness”
I personally wouldnt wear a Payless Shoe bcuz d cheaper d less comfortable But Puhlizz if u comfortable in it Y Not If Not. Becuz its payless or wetseal or wat not doesnt mean u cant have a Unique look.

exactly… the deep rooted bitterness and bile bubbling under is very worrying. its possible to express opinions without what happens here in this comment section all the time. one gets the impression some comments (not all) are intended to hurt, and downsize any female who dares feel confident enough to think shes all that. I dont really see this on other african non naija blogs. i wonder if its in the water.

Bella has already started comment moderation nah
As I see one or two of my comments have been deleted – hmmmn I don’t recall insulting anyone – whatever sha it’s your blog
Here’s an idea for you Bella: Ban mystyle participants from RESPONDING to comments – can’t they read the comments and “keep it moving” themselves? Are we supposed to censor how we feel now, for fear of “offending?” I admit that most comments need not be RUDE – but if I don’t like something, I will put it across.

  100. Z

    August 12, 2009 at 3:58 pm

Damn, these comments have been ridiculous! Let me chip in my two cents.

Hair: I can’t comment much because I cannot abide weave, sorry. I will say that I like the pink and blonde streaks (shout out on those gloves, girl!), but the two toned hair was cringe-worthy. Oh, and she looks better with her hair pulled back, and also wen it’s shorter (she’s got the face for shorter hair).

Make-up: Kudos with managing all that color, I actually like the brightness of it. Not something I’d ever do, but she’s working it. But those eyelashes! Ok, I don’t mind the outrageousness of them, honestly, but combined with the colors, odikwa too much. I’d love to see those eyelashes with a smoky eye, keep it all dark.

Everything else: I don’t have beef with where she got her clothes from, as long as you make it look good, who cares? I liked the white shirt with the dress turned into a skirt (hated it when it was worn as a dress with the shirt). The rest of the looks were pretty good, actually, girl has the body to carry it off. And those legs!! Jesu, my dear, work it! I love the outfits with tights on and I LOVED the jeans overall outfit.

  110. Stop hating because you ain't no better

Uche, your style is unique and it defines you. The funny thing is all these Nigerian females hating on your style, is stilling down there acting like when they finally snuck there way into America they weren’t shopping at pretty girl, rainbow and payless. Secondly they can hardly speak good English but want to critisize. If all you haters are better then her why are you sitting down in your apartment, instead of worrying how you will pay the next months rent and how you can fill up your fridge with more food instead of gari, your sitting down looking throught her WHOLE page, y’all need a life with a side dish of Jesus and an ESL class.

Reading all these comments I realize why there aren’t more “my style” pieces since it’s a crime to keep it real. If you don’t like a collection why not just close the link and send yours. Wearing jimmy choo’s or buying hair extensions for 200k a pack DOES NOT make you instantly FABULOUS. I like some of the pieces not all but I see nothing wrong with her payless shoes because any great collection of shoes or clothes should have some bargain pairs or pieces.
