BN Aso Ebi Glam: Okoya’s 70th Birthday Celebration

We’ve had this one in our vault for the last few weeks. Many readers have grown to love BN Wedding Glam, we have actually spotted previous BN Wedding Glam features printed and being used at various tailors studios (True Story! We spotted this a few weeks ago) but as you know, Aso Ebi is used for all sorts of occasions – Birthdays, anniversaries etc…
Here is BN Aso Ebi Glam from the 70th birthday celebration of Chief Rasaq Okoya. We love how all the guests interpreted the outfits in their own unique ways. From matching it with other fabrics to making it ‘younger’ by opting for shorter, more youthful styles. We have to give it to Nigerian fashionistas – creative!

most of them look okay, acceptable. but the only one that stood out was the second to last girl.
i just like the idea of the black pants and using the material for the top. as well as the added belt around the waist. cool, something i would do.

for me, lola okoya is d best dressed and a couple of other ladies wit nicely designed dresses. Shade’s outfit looks too busy. Gosh! which one does one look at? shade or d print or d bow or d cape on d blouse or yet still, d bogus pleats on d blouse n skirt? d heavy ring or d other accessories? d outfit wore her,she didnt wear d outfit. Gbam

The fabric is a little too busy and needs minimal embellishments. Shade Okoya’s dress was damn too busy, then all that jewelry.

What can i say its their party

did not see anything WOW…but i think because the ankara had picture of the celebrant on it, no one wanted something that elaborate as they may not be able to wear it again

With Sade Okoya’s outfit, you don’t need a parachute when thrown out of a plane. Just flap those wings & tail and fly!

    March 16, 2010 at 11:38 pm

Sade as always looking tacky………. She always has to out do herself. Her outfit was totally outrageous and her designer (Valerie David’s) needs to go back to fashion school. Her whole outfit was a train wreck. She always has put on all jewelry in her trinket box. She looks like the Lion Queen……

    March 17, 2010 at 2:13 am

same here, actually i wouldn’t wear any fabric with a printed face on it, just weird.
the simple outfits were the best

    March 17, 2010 at 6:24 am

sade’s outfit is not ridiculous, sometimes she overdoes many things at once. a simple style n the bogus jewelries [she cant seem to do without them] would v bin it. i love simisola okoya’s [5th lady] simplicity.

those that wore it simply did justice to the ankara.i don’t know if anyone is advising sade okoya about how to keep it simple..we know u are loaded but do u have to announce it with the puffs and all?

  19. lola

    March 17, 2010 at 4:07 pm

The fabric itself is a bit busy since it has the celebrant’s picture on it so I think the nicest outfits were the simplest, no frou-frou outfits. Sometimes it’s just best to keep things simple!

    March 17, 2010 at 6:54 pm

Honestly!!! my first comment when I saw the first picture was that someone needed some serious editing of all the extras. I mean bows, ruffles, appliques…. just packed on… the nicest were the simplest dresses and i liked d 2nd lady with the yellow ruffles… It made the aso ebi look lighter

I actually prefer the busy outfits especially Wosilat’s and Sade’s. Both women are tall and therefore, can rock busy outfits.

From day one all the Okoya’s ladies can try but, they can never stand beside AJOKE OKOYA. She’s the only person that s stands out in the Okoya, this lady is classy, pretty and graceful. I think Sade can learn a lesson or two from Ajoke Okoya……….

I mean, i kinda see where Sade Okoya was coming from when she created this outifit- I’m gonna be nice and call it couture.

What’s with having Okoya’s face on the ankara. I think it limited the quality of execution on a lot of the dresses, maybe cuz a lot of the tailors didn’t know how to work around it.

My fave look has to be the maxi dress with the sheer jacket, its elegant in an understated way

Rubbish styles. Just few ladies pulled it off well, the rest only Jehovah knows what they were thinking.

i dnt dig any of those outfits but i liked wosilat’s outfit and sade needs to know the difference btw a costume and a dress

    March 25, 2010 at 3:23 pm

Yeah we all have our varying opinions,so i will give mine.Lets pretend the outfits werent ankara:

Shade’s outfit is too busy for that ankara or any kind for that matter.I guess in the name of Outdoing all the ladies, she overdid it…..
For Ma’am Wosilat, she lookd really fab despite her age, only hate the bottom of the dress…..
The blouse of the 5th outfit is extremely classy,u need great eyes to see that….
The 7th looks like a Phunk Afrique style ive seen, badly copied….
The Last outfit is simple & chique.

Sorry Sade, but your outfit is a horrid mess!!! No 2 would have been nice, BUT!!! There’s too much going on in there!! That black swath on no3 may have looked better if it was say, brown..No 4 is as cute as a button and no 5…yeah the top shows attention to detail but why didn’t they just make a dress? 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 I’m not feeling but 10 is classy and simple!! 11 would have been ok if not for the distracting XXX design in the waist and the ghastly shoes!! 12, look ok….they’re playing it safe and it works..13 would have been ok if not for the black contrast against the fabric…I would never use black with that fabric!! 14 and 15 are just plain horrible and did 16 really have to cut his face out and sew it on? Egad!!! 17 is horrific and 18 looks cute but the color contrast didn’t work! Couldn’t the person who made the outfit use a cream color closer to the cream of the fabric? No 19 is not nice and 20 is ok…It’s always better to play it safe with fabrics like this!! 21 is ok though the yellow is quite bright and the beads are too much for my tastes…No 22 is pretty and pulled the outfit off and to 23: I say thank you, thank you, thank you!!

    April 27, 2010 at 9:26 pm

Shade always looks scary…. not sure if its always the over-dramatic outfits or the over-the top make up. If only she could tone it down a lil bit. I think her best asset is her skin. She’s got a fantastic skin tone and clear complexion. Someone please tell her……simplicity always works!!!

Just a suggestion ……… Use the cloth to clean the plaque wooden flooring !! With all their money you would have thought they could afford a simple wooden floor polisher. Only TWO outfits ticked the box for me. As for the first one and her counterparts ….. to the bonfire with them LOL !!

I try to look beyond the outfit. Most of the ladies to me looks pretty comfortable with what they are wearing. However, its so obvious that simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication.
