The Miss Nigeria pageant is back and revamped for a new generation of beauty queens. In honour of Nigeria’s 50th anniversary of independence, a special edition of the pageant has been rolled out by the Miss Nigeria organization. Under the stewardship of Nike Oshinowo-Soleye, the new Miss Nigeria pageant will “infuse old school glamour with modern elegance“. According to Mrs Soleye, “The pageant will evoke a time when beauty had substance and grace as well as respectability; a time when privilege came with responsibility“
At the Miss Nigeria 2010 media launch held on the 9th of June 2010. The scope and the prizes for the pageant were unveiled.
Castings: The Miss Nigeria pageant will be activated for the first time in three continents; Europe, North America and Africa. Castings will be held in 5 zonal regions in Nigeria as well as in New York and London during the months of July and August 2010.
Reality Show: In September 2010, a 2-Week reality show will be filmed, during this time, the young ladies will have the opportunity to showcase their character, talents and skills as the perfect Nigerian woman. Viewers will be able to view, vote off and ultimately influence the choice of their queen through this process.
The Miss Nigeria Grand Finale: The final event (crowning of the queen) will be held on the 25th of September 2010 in Abuja, Nigeria.
The Grand Prize:
- Full Scholarship towards a degree at any educational institution in the world
- A Luxury Car
- One year paid accommodation in Lagos, Nigeria
- Wardrobe for a year from Nigeria’s leading designers
- Gifts from other sponsors
We like the ‘reality show’ element of the pageant! Definitely could be very exciting. Its also great to see our ex-beauty queens – Nike, Binta, Vien & Ene again.

Hmm I wonder what the Miss Nigeria in America and Miss Nigeria in other locations organizations will have to say about this. Sounds great, but its seems also like a logistical nightmare. Wish them the best without court injunctions filed.

Logistical nightmare???!!!?? Maybe she will go to school after her rein…DUH! Nigerians are such haters, especially when it comes to other women. This is actually a very good idea. Most pageants that give away scholarships expect the winner to redeem the scholarship prize after their 1year rein, u cant go to school and rein at the same time ODE!lol Lets not be so simple minded, theses comments are embarrassing. From what I know of Nike she does things thoroughly. Lets try and break the stereotype that Nigerian women are negetive, nasty rude haters with bad attitudes. This is something everyone can support, so support them. Its Miss Nigeria for goodness sake, if they do well, we all do well. Hisssssssss
