MTN Project Fame West Africa’s ‘Lucky 18’ get their first taste of Stardom as the show begins and superstar Asa visits

MTN Project Fame Season 3 promises to be more interesting,  than ever before.
MTN Project Fame is a music talent competition which creates the opportunity of a lifetime for 18 naturally gifted individuals to end up becoming music superstars.

These lucky 18 hopefuls were chosen from a round of auditions and will be taken to the Performance Academy where they will live throughout the duration of Project Fame competition. They will be trained and coached into becoming music professionals by members of the Faculty. The Faculty is a group of music professionals whose main responsibility is to teach and train the contestants.

While in the Fame Academy, contestants will be filmed 24/7, a daily thirty minute show will air on several TV stations all over the country from Monday to Friday. Each Sunday the contestants will all perform. After their individual performances, the judges and members of the faculty will comment and afterwards members of the public get to vote for the contestant who they think had the best performance.

Voting starts from Sunday 8pm and ends on Saturday at 4pm.

The next Saturday is the elimination show where the four contestants with the lowest public votes will be up for elimination. The four contestants are however given a chance to redeem themselves by performing again. Afterwards, the judges, the contestants and the faculty save one contestant each. The contestant who isn’t saved at all is automatically eliminated. This is the same format the show will go with until a winner emerges in three months time.

This year the winner of Project Fame goes home with a fantastic recording contract, N2.5m and a brand new Toyota RAV4. The 1st runner up gets to go home with N1.5m and a Toyota Corolla while the 2nd runner gets N1m and a Toyota Yaris. In addition the top 6 contestants get to work with Nigeria’s leading producer on their own compositions and release a group song!

The first winner of MTN Project Fame was Iyanya Mbuk who has gone on to release his successful debut album, My Story. The winner of PFWA Season 2 was Mike Anyasodo whose ‘Fine Fine Lady’ single is now a radio and a regular on TV Channels across the country.

The lucky PFWA 18 will be getting their first taste of fame this week. Asa is set to visit the contestants of the MTN Project Fame Season 3 on Thursday 22nd of July 2010. Asa will share her experience as an upcoming talent; and tell the remarkable story of her rise to international fame. As a tribute to the singer who has proudly flown the Nigerian flag, the contestants will be performing her songs this Saturday at this week’s performance show. The contestants will also perform select numbers from Tracy Chapman. Asa will also be on hand to judge the contestants when performing. Obviously the highlight of the evening will be when the singer mounts the stage to perform some of her hit songs.

MTN Project Fame West Africa is produced by Ultima Limited which happens to be a major TV content and production company. Ultima Limited has also produced the highly popular franchise hit show- Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.

Modele, Project Fame? Deja vu… Lara auditioning for West African Idols…

    July 19, 2010 at 11:47 pm

Most of them are from Nigeria, followed by Ghana, and one from Sierra Leone.
I thought they would have included far more West African countries than that.
its also weird how the prize money is being given out in Naira.
a lot of them dislike dirt…lol, that part made me laugh.

Town crier are you sure you are passing on the right information across town? Get yr facts str8 oo…before you start crying about town….meanwhile, Timi Dakolo has released at least 3 songs to my knowledge….Heaven please feat. M.I, let it shine and I love you… Google is your friend oooo! That’s why we don’t need town criers much these days!

Meanwhile on to LadyTee….seriously, I think you have issues…which one concern you concern THE AMAKA? Not that I know her or anything but she has the right to her opinion me thinks…MTN na your papa get am? I concur with her on the fact that if the show is MTN Project fame West Africa, the countries represented should have an equal number of contestants!! And for the prize money being in Naira, last time I checked, the Naira is not as internationally acceptable as the US $ or the GBP. If this was not so, the South Africans would have given the prize money for the BBA winner in Rands!

    Mcheeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww…SMH…Please learn to criticize constructively!

  18. RMG

    July 20, 2010 at 1:39 pm

We need to promote n encourage talents not necessarily who wins! Though talent is not enough.

    July 20, 2010 at 6:05 pm

People, Una just need to follow through with the show before criticizing and nagging. It’s not easy to be up there so, give them SPACE. May the best person win.

    July 20, 2010 at 6:32 pm

@LadyTee, who is complaining? I’m merely stating the obvious.
about 14 of the 18 contestants are from Nigeria.
Last time i checked West Africa has around 13 countries.

    @dee and fokasibe

I think Yetunde (if she is telling the truth)was probably born in ’90 or ’91
she could be 19 or 20….lol

  31. Nneka

    July 20, 2010 at 7:40 pm

lol lol…laughing at BN’s ‘ooooold’ population. I know the early 90s seem like yesterday but sweetie, that’s 19/20 years ago. So that chic’s age can be accurate.

Amaka is right! 14/18 Nigerians in WEST AFRICA’S Project Fame? What a shame.
Don’t even bother blurting a sermon on how I should be happy for ‘my people’. Screw that. The talent scoutters could have done better in showcasing a more diverse cast from other parts of West Africa.

  32. d-stuff

    July 20, 2010 at 10:10 pm

The people writing the Bio’s should be consistent. If you want to disclose their ages disclose for all. Not the whole born in the 90’s, 80’s 70’s thing. Also you either give their full name or just one name. The inconsistency makes for a difficult read.

MNET should really think about making a pay service available online for africans in the diaspora. I would be interested if the fees are reasonable.

2 those dat have been complaining about d show being dominated by Nigerians, 1st I wud like 2 correct d lady dat made mention of 13 West African countries by saying dat only 4 West African countries ‘re eligible 2 participate cuz those ‘re d only english speaking countries here( u dnt expect us 2 be listening 2 performances in French)…..2ndly, it just goes 2 show d abundance of talent in dis country, I mean, d Adebola girl was picked in Ghana though I think dey can improve on deir selection 2 accomodate more indigenes of d other 3 English speaking countries. So guys, pls free these pple….Anyway sha, I wish all d contestants d best.

Is it project fame niqeria or project fame west africa??
I tink there shuld be an equal numba of contestants representin each of da selected countries.y shuld niqeria av ova 65%of da contestants whiles da rest av lez dan3%.dat doesnt mean da rest dnt av talents but means,da production team iz beinq bias.if uld al aqree wid me,uld come to realize da fact dat i’m beinq realistic n nt beinq judqemental. But al da same,u nid to vote for kesse cuz he’s qot wat it takes.

That the students were late for ONE class is no reason for the teachers/ instructors to demean them
I think the instructors especially the music teacher was overdoing the discipline thingy
I also think the music teacher should be cautioned, his words are abusive, he should know he is talking to adults
I wish the competitors the very best.
learn, learn and learn, you have been offered a wonderful platform.

this show is nice n mature, but am not happy with d way Benneth uses harsh words on d contestant. He is not been mature,he was not suppose to scold Ochuko in front of d other contestants after scolding him one on one,he is trying to create enmity btwn them. Ochuko woke them is enough was he suppose to drag them to d class?

I just hope the best person wins.Mike did not justify his victory from what i saw the other day.Let Bibi be,she only wants to bring out the best in them.Look at what constructive criticism did to Omawunmi during the Idol west Africa ,she is better for it.

I love mtn project fame west africa it’s a nice talent hunt show, Since it’s called project fame west africa, i think in the next season, each country represented should have equal number of delegates and the prize money should be in foreign currency so as to have credibility. As for this year’s show i’m rooting for KESSE and YETUNDE because they’re the natural talents i see in that house. cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers.

  89. friday

    August 14, 2010 at 9:42 am

I must confess i really like the show, Project Fame West Africa, but as it is, i would like to say that u guys are not really doing great in one area, that is voting on line. so many people would like to vote on line but such provision is not available, atleast not to my knowledge. also, the full page of your site cannot be accessible, as one cnnot scrool left or right to see the other end of the page., that is not really good.
lastly i would like to give Eyo, fine boy my vote. hope he wins/
