The BN Style team has been exploring the idea of doing a “Home vs. International” edition of our style feature, Pick Your Fave for some time, we looked through our photo archives and thought – why not!
The world has truly evolved into a global village. From a fashion and style perspective, clothing and accessories by luxury designers, mid-range lines and “high street” fashion can be found across the globe.
While we are happy to rock Alexander Wang, Issa, Herve Leger, Karen Millen and French Connection; we sincerely hope to see this “fashion exchange” become to 2 way street. With clothing by African designers available across the globe so the world can experience our interpretation of fashion creativity.
Anyway, here is our special edition of BN Pick Your Fave – Home vs. International
Genevieve Nnaji was spotted at the premiere of her new movie, “Tango With Me” in this blue Diamante Embellished Flapper dress by Karen Millen. She paired the dress with silver accessories, peep-toe sandals and a blue pillbox clutch. In 2010, “Pretty Little Liars” star, Shay Mitchell stepped unto the “Prince of Persia – Sands of Time” premiere red carpet in the same dress, her sideswept locks and bandage sandals completed her look.
Entrepreneur, Ibidun Ituah-Ighodalo wore this Herve Leger bandage dress at the anniversary event for Afromedia which her company, Elizabeth R planned. Ibidun chose a looser fit than we traditionally see from HL bandage dresses – this gave the dress a more conservative look. She accessorized with a diamond and pearl earring and necklace set. Ibidun completed her look with gold and black sandals. UK TV Presenter, Carol Vorderman caused a media sensation when she rocked the same dress. Carol who was 49 at the time was attending the 2010 National Book Awards. She paired her grey dress with ivory bondage sandals.
At the 2010 MTV Africa Music Awards, Marketing/PR Executive Celine Loader rocked this black and white, draped corseted dress by Alexander Wang. Yummy Mummy Celine paired her dress with silver accessories and black platform sandals. Kim Kardashian wore the same dress for Diddy’s birthday celebration. Kim amped up her look by revealing the corseted bust detail of the dress. Her loose updo, black clutch and black platform pumps completed her look.
Issa is now most famous for being one of royal bride, Kate Middleton’s favourite designers. The brand is also favoured by Finance Executive, Deola Bali. At the Afromedia event in 2010, Deola rocked this floor-length Issa dress. She concealed the plunging neckline by adding a white tank top underneath and then accessorized with a statement necklace and an embellished clutch. American actress Rose McGowen and Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts also stepped out in this stunning Issa dress. They both styled the dress with simple accessories. Rose with delicate torquise earrings and Nicola with a gold necklace.
Freda Edewor-Francis wore this French Connection Grainger’s Glitter Chiffon Dress for the launch of her Kristos jewellery line in 2010. Freda accessorized with a Kristos necklace and completed her look with gold Christian Louboutin Ulona sandals. In January 2011, Brittany Snow arrived at the Audi and J. Mendel celebrations for Golden Globes Week event in the same dress. She kept her look minimalist with no jewellery, upswept hair and nude platform pumps.
