Folake Majin unveils “The Royal Collection”
On Sunday 20th November 2011, Folake Majin unveiled her latest collection “The Royal Collection” at the Civic Centre.
Here’s what Folake Majin said about her collection “In putting this collection together I wanted to create clothes that were graceful, dignified and grand. A collection of beautiful clothes as beauty never goes out of style thereby creating classics. Also bearing in mind that high standards are often required from royalty I set out to design and present the Royal Collection by Folake Majin”

The death of ANKARA! Sorry but not my cup of tea! Ankara has been so overstyled that if you are going to do anything with it you’d have to really reinvent the wheel to wow someone. Having said that, these style are actually a bit raz with the exception of a few pieces…

It’s a beautiful and sophisticated collection but I don’t like the use of tulle but it is still pretty.

Bella** @Esmeralda, I totally agree in the nicest possible way. I had expected…..going by the hyped byline “The Royal Collection, and the “Designers” own words on her collection “graceful, dignified and grand” but got something totally antithetical :-).
This defect is not cured by the fab shoes and fantastic star power of Kelechi Amadi Obi. I’d admit, I might/would wear a few pieces from this collection, but we should simply always say things as they are, or these things should come with a caveat…what you see is what you get:-).
Now I await the backlash. Keep in mind though, its a perfectly free world, where freedom of expression/speech is a protected right:-). Happy Holidays guys.

The pieces are well tailored, but i wont call it a Royal Collection, cos in my humble opinion its lacks the accessories that could have added the touch of royality,no beads,no gems,no swarowski,no lace ,no sequim…royality should leave you breathless, but i dnt get that feeling here..

These are tailored pieces as Anu rightly said, they are not original. Nigerian designers should spend more time researching their pieces and they should start using their imaginations and creative instincts. These pieces are safe, copied designs. Just my thought

Gotta say, I really love the collection. You say this looks like a normal collection, but I beg to differ. I can see Ms. Majin’s sophisticated use of colour and choice of fabric. A few more collections playing with colour like this, and oh man we will have another Duro Olowu. Trust me, I know – when people were critiquing Tsemaye Binitie’s collection, before his name became really popular within the past year (e.g. when he was one of the 5 designers chosen to represent Naija in NY Fashion Week), I was one of those who saw that the guy’s designs were awesome and wasn’t shy to say it. Ms. Majin, well done!

I would have imagined a royal collection representing excellent work, grandeur and well…royalty! But I am sorry I do not see anything of such in Ms Majin’s collection. She should have enhanced the beauty of her collection with elegant and lovely accessories, those too were lacking. I must commend her though for still being in touch with the modern day beautification of ankara, despite its ubiquity.

C’est magnifique. I love the fact that Mrs Majin has added to her creativity, conceptual thinking and is able to vary an idea for an ankara collection. Really nice. Keep up the good work.

Some people choose to be blind, or can’t help being ignorant. In addition to ankara, lace, ankara, tie and dye, net, aso oke are also used in this collection. Isn’t it plain to see?
