Celebrating Africa’s Rich Cultural Heritage – Photos from the Maiden Edition of the Heritage Awards & Miss Heritage Contest

It was a rich and beautiful display of the African culture at the maiden edition of Heritage Awards and Miss Heritage Nigeria which took Abuja by storm on Sunday 11th December 2011.

The Thisday Dome in Abuja, venue for the event was decorated in rich cultural African art work to celebrate the African culture. Most of the guests were dressed in different African attires and the contestants displayed their different cultures with their dinner dresses which were designed in African Fabric. Their hairstyles also symbolized the African culture as they were done in weaves.

According to the organizers, Miss Heritage Nigeria is a unique beauty pageant which celebrates Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and provides an avenue to reach out to the youths on the importance of imbibing the values of our cultural heritage.

Heritage Awards were given out to individuals who have promoted Nigeria’s cultural heritage in different ways. Individuals and corporate organizations across various industries were recipients of the awards. They include 2face Idibia, Oge Okoye, Chika Ike, Nduka Obaigbena, Dr. Olubunmi Wilson, Moses Siasia, Mr. Azuka Biose, Baba Umar Faruk – Permanent Secretary on Youth Development, Globacom, and AIT.

The event was organized by Caires Grooming Agency, an organization which was conceptualized by its founder, Chinor Emeka to promote the Nigerian Cultural Heritage.

If you missed all the fun and excitement at the event, never mind BN has got all the photos.

what is Miss Rivers putting on as her traditional attire?this is so crazy..i hate it when beauty pageants wear nonsense as their cultural attire….Rivers state cultural attires are very beautiful bcos of the multi-enthic groups and what she is putting on is no way near one of rivers’ cultural attire…this is total nonsense…….there are d kalabaris, ibanis, ikwerres, ogonis.. etc and she choose to put on this?

Some of these comments reflect the old adage: “Damned if you do; damned if you don’t.” There is just no pleasing some people. The bottom line is, any opportunity to celebrate and showcase our culture is ALWAYS a good thing. For those of us living outside Nigeria, we welcome the chance to see images of back home. Well done BN for sharing.

i feel so proud to be nigerian whenever i see such events that represent nigerian culture in it’s diverse forms.
it’s also good to see girls who are obviously from the south dress as northern girls.

The lady with the short dress interviewing on the red carpet, whats happening with her legs?? Knowing so well her legs are crossed, she should have opted for a long dress or pants…the sight isn’t just cool
