Admirable of musicians everywhere using their gifts! Never stopped to think but using your gift to make a living especially when it’s not in the entertainment or creative industries is rather brave! I pray for the grace to face my fears and really harness my gift

Take a giant leap of faith and why not discover your purpose, maximise your potential and reach your destiny- www.

I won’t lie… this song is horrible. If I was him, I would push pride aside and return to mohits/mavin ASAP.. This is not working at all.. I kind of like sister caro tho, but standard is falling seriously. He needs help.

      July 15, 2012 at 1:49 am

If you like and really know good music then you should and will like this….OYATO!! Standard is intact. This is a tip of the iceberg. Don Jazzy wouldn’t have done better. The Solar Plexus album is a failure. There is no point going back…afterall Don Jazzy wanted a break up and he got. He should continue to be the local champion that he has always wanted to be. Please enjoy correct music Busola…this is it!!!

“If you like and really know good music then you should and will like this”

oh please give me a break truthbetold , you are clearly a Dbanj fan, 3 hearty cheers for you but we hear things differently and music appeals to us differently, so quit trying to make it like those people who don’t like this song (for various reasons) are lesser beings or something

I have listened to this song 5 times and its not growing on me. I really think he could have done better. After all the hype is this the best he could do? Like seriously tho….beat is on point, chorus is ok but the verse and bridge is so boring. Im a bit disappointed. Thot he would do better. The song just isn’t on point. SMH

    Honestly,no hating!
If this is the long awaited hit single, then D’banj has lost it. Sorry dude, singing is not for you… should focus more on assembling talents and probably run a music business. That is where I see your skills and expertise. A music businessman, Yes…a song writer cum musician,NO.

    July 15, 2012 at 2:05 am

There is one simple reason I will always support Dbanj. He is going into an unexplored (or mildly explored) territory in a major way and that takes so much effort, especially as he is not only an artist but the businessman behind his own artistry in this new venture.

Its a different ballgame when you are in a new territory, with so much conflict behind you, with less support than you are used to. Yet, he is coming out on top in so many ways.

Lets give him a minute to catch his breath, get his business structure/production/networking in place. I am absolutely certain that he will grow from strength to strength if his focus is in the right direction, stays humble and if his mind/soul is in the right place.

We love you D’Banj. We support you. Many blessings and favors are coming your way!! Just be true to God & to yourself and you will excel. Oyato! xx

  25. Kingsley

    July 15, 2012 at 2:45 am

Busola and everyone that was bold enough to speak the truth, God bless you all. Leave the cheap publicists alone with their ignorance. The song is crap and I wish It wasn’t. Koyato oooooo. Same noni!
Now don’t think I am one of those that bothered pitching tent on either of the raised groups of team Dbanj or team Don jazzy. Time for that was luxury I just couldn’t afford.
I danced the ‘Olivertwist’ and got the understanding that another cross over naija artiste has emerge. Oyato wants to prove me wrong. The backup singer revealed the strength of Wande coal and Don Jazzy. Now we know who has been helping who blow!
Dbanj all you needed was a smashing hit not a new hit, you did it with Olivertwist and the international scene welcomed you aboard, you just crossed back to the grass root of little appeal with Oyato…Forget about the cheap attention seekers on twitter. You (Dbanj) did a lazy work with Oyato. So I will borrow one of 2face’s magical song title, take it back. Yes take that song back to the kitchen, delete the back up singer, write better, sound better. Sing a Sweet song! Osheee!

    • Djackal

      July 16, 2012 at 1:45 pm

@ Kingsley, Those were my thoughts exactly. You’ve made a good honest remark here. The beat is good, the wordings could do with a little pimping up but that back up guy has to go. To be international, ditch the second bcos I don’t see them playing it here in the UK or over in the States

This one is No-Hit, N its not about hate but taste. I love alot of his song n this one is straight nonsense, my young brother makes better songs than this n he doesnt even have half of the equipment this guy has @ his disposal. N i tot moving here to the states would make is song better, but i guess he left his taste in nigeria(Mo-Hit).

@Busola and the fool who applauded her,u both are undoubtedly confused!Which stewpid Wande Coal helps who as regards back up singing?R u high,Mr Kingsley? From all D’banj’s tracks frm inception till date, how many times did u hear Wande Coal’s voice?Ur simply a hater and wot becomes of D’banj now or in the future is simply not ur business!Frm ur comments,u definitely have NEVER been his fan and u cldn’t even hide it frm the tone of ur comments.Deal with D’banj being an international star or live with it,its up to u but the koko is those are ur only options!Ofcourse he doesn’t expect evryone to applaud him as he is clearly aware he has haters jus as much as he has fans!God is his strength and the only thing any sensible person can do is to wish him well…..The Harmonica backgorund alone is satisfactory enough so do urself a favour by letting him be!
D’banj, much more power to ur elbow!U need not worry D’banj, jus bear in mind that small minds don’t comprehend big spirits like urs!Dearest D’banj,to be successful in life,u shld be willing to be hated, mocked and mis understood which i see ur clearly doing so its more power to ur elbow once again!

      July 15, 2012 at 2:01 pm

The fact that busola and kingsley dont like the song doesnt make dem fool.Cant u learn to be diplomatic? cnt u state out ur point witout insulting? You are a dbanj die hard fan hence ur obsession with him clouds ur judgement. The fact is this song is a FLOP!! and u dbanj fans rather than hype him on his merits or whatevr console urselves with he is an interational star blah blah bah give us a break. He is not the first and certainly not the last. The likes of asa and nneka done did watevr dbanj is doing.Femi kuti is a multi grammy nominee and didnt need to sign under an american label to get that.Wande coal has been doing underground vocals for most of dbanjs music,he even writes most of them.If dbanj is an “international star’ as u put this what is expected of a INTERNATIONAL STAR? a 3:25 song filled with repititive lyrics and oyato oyato oyato purlease who in the US and even UK wants to listen to this except for some few Nigerians of course. We admit the harmonica yes i luv it but this song is lyricless( i knw d excuse y’ll will give is he is an entertainer blah blah blah) so those times wande been writing his song he wasnt an entertainer abi, this is more like a lullaby. The fact is whehter he signed with jay-z o or watevr he is been hyped about we simply dont give a hoot.We are here for the music which of course is already a FLOP!! The only thing that can save this music is cos he is DBANJ that’s it.Dbanj even had to diss donjazzy to put out a music,so childish.Donjazzy has moved on and dbanj is still dissing the thing is still paining him? international star blah blah is all we keep hearing meanwhile he doesnt bring out the music of international star.Do u think we are here for his partying with kanye or showing in kanye’s video.A true fan knws this song is not it at all and just because we dont like the song we are haters? na wa o.Have u forgotten some of us arent team donjazzy neither are we team dbanj we all just want good music frm them. Not all dat dont like dbanj’s song are team donjazzy and vice versa.Tell him the music industry is grown pass this now and he wants tot ake us back to 2001?

    • Dell

      July 15, 2012 at 7:34 pm

@annie,Wande Coal wrote D”banj”s songs, did u say?Ur sure evrything”s alrite?Smh…..And u think wot u av written makes sense hence ur so called diplomacy????The fact that Don Jazzy didn”t produce this song,u and ur likes think its crap abi?By the way,the first verse sends a good message across so wots with ur term “lyricless”?I bet u read those spiteful comments towards D”banj but u won”t respond to those ones b”cos like u said ur not “team d”banj” or “team don jazzy”…..Duuuuuuhhhh!
Also, kindly listen to his exact wordings as he clearly didn”t mention don jazzy”s name not to talk of dissing him so quit starting up some kinda argument.
Furthermore,i don”t see any form of PRIDE in D”banj like some of u think.I would rather term him as CONFIDENT which ofcourse many interprete as pride.D”banj, well done anyway. This is good enough but can always be better.

    • Tas

      July 15, 2012 at 9:27 pm

@annie,madam wot exactly are ur points?First of all,the Femi Kuti u have mentioned has been nominated for Grammy for one singular reason and one alone which is his father”s fame and glory which his sons are living on esp Femi and not by their efforts. Before 2011,only FELA seemed to be the only name that rung a bell in Yankee as regards Naija artistes but now its a totally different ball game.I quite appreciate the fact that both Femi and Seun are enjoying that aspect of their dad and i see NO wrong in it but pls TAKE NOTE that its definitely NOT their work that is speaking for them one bit as regards grammy nomination so that comaprison u made btwn Femi and D”banj is absolutely baseless. There”s no where in the world that merit is practised 100 percent and America is definitely no exception. Can u mention one particular song of Femi other than BANG BANG BANG that has hit so much? And to u who is talking, how many of Femi”s songs do u listen to?As a matter of fact,Seun his younger brother seems and sounds much better than Femi, the older one.Secondly, who in Heavens name told u that Wande Coal writes D”banj”s songs?Wot a fabricated lie!If at all the vocally talented dark skin dude even wrote any for D”banj,if at all i repeat,it would never have been any other songs but the ones he himself featured in (and how many if i may ask) and for God”s sake, there are some D”banj lines that only D”banj can think of writing or saying so wot are u yarning pls?.U come around to type that he wrote most all b’cos of some exaggerated JJC talk!Y hasn”t Wande Coal spoken publicly?Y did Wande Coal state publicly over a year ago that D”banj is the daddy of Mo”hits whilst Don Jazzy is the mummy of Mo”hits?Get ur facts right madam ‘cos the real entertainment ppl know that D”banj did a great deal for Wande Coal and that they were particularly tight and had a very particular bonding.Look, inside sources wld tell u that D”banj gets his inspiration from his bubbly personality and can compose a song from anything that tickles his fancy at any point in time whether unsatisfactory by u or any one else.Thirdly,u mentioned that “is this wot International standard by D”banj is about”???Me dear, kindly think well before jumping to conclusions. The fact that D”banj has gone international DOES NOT mean that he wld not sing some songs to the usual Nigerian tune or sing in Yoruba sometimes. This is purely D”banj and when he decides to do the blending thingy with the American peeps,he undoubtedly would jus like u saw in the remix of Endowed where he flowed very well with Snoop whether u concur or not anyway.U sit here and respond to my comments and yet u have clearly read the spiteful, hateful and poisonous venoms spat out by some people on this thread which u intentionally ignored because u in one way or the other, agree with them, isn”t it?Plus ur talk about Asa/Nneka lacks merit as far as i am concerned b’cos those two started off in France and Germany or so and wotever heights they may have attained internationally is not exactly a BIG DEAL “cos they didn”t start from Naija as opposed to Tuface,D”banj and P-Square who have worked ten times harder than those two to get to where they are now.Lastly, with or without a Don Jazzy,D”banj wld undoubtedly play his harmonica otherwise known as a mouth organ excellently well and whether he brings it back now or not DOESN”T make him any less or unsure of himself like u have stylishly stated so madam,do urself a favour by walking pass whenever D”banj is concerned or state ur points justifiably. No one”s mandating u to like or love D”banj and regardless of whether i am a die hard fan of D”banj or not,i wld give honour to whom honour is due.
p/s-D”banj did NOT diss Don Jazzy, listen properly and u wld hear his exact lines.Thankyou in advance….

    • annie

      July 15, 2012 at 10:24 pm

Dell pls learn the word diplomatic? me giving my opinion doesnt equate to being diplomatic or not.It depends on how u give it,u disgaree without saying fowl words or insulting each oda dat was wat i meant so if u have a diff meaning of diplomatic well not in this context. You dbanj’s fans are soo pained jeez

    • annie

      July 15, 2012 at 2:11 pm

One more thing i know this was how dbanj started with his mouth organ stuff but the reason being pple dislike this music is beacuse they have all been by the mirage of oliver twist and endowed and he defiitely cnt be cosistent with that kinda music. All of a sudden he goes back to his mouth organ days which we all miss of course but this is just not it.To me both donjazzy and dbanj needs each other but ego and pride is in the way.If dbanj wants to go back to the mouth organ he defo needs donjazzy and if he wants to be consistent with oliver twist kinda song i think any producer could do that.

    • Bell

      July 15, 2012 at 6:55 pm

@Annie,shut ur mouth!Did u read Busola and Co”s initial write up?Ofcourse u wld defend them “cos u clearly are one hell of a hater! And who on earth told u that he needs Don Jazzy beats for his harmonica?R u confused?Ur problem is that u don”t understand CHANGE “cos if u do,u wld clearly be neutral when judging changed circumstances or situations! If Don Jazzy produced this song,u won”t open ur trashy mouth to chat gibberish like u av just done. The fact that someone else produced it now means its rubbish abi?Get a life mehnn “cos D”banj clearly has one and pls don”t compare D”banj wiv Nneka and/or Asa “cos even Nigerian kids don”t av a clue about who Asa or Nneka is.

    • annie

      July 15, 2012 at 10:20 pm

Bell not everyone will be a dbanj fan or like the song since u said in ur writeup that not evryone will like his music so why are u pained? not everyone is a dbanj fan so why attack everyone who doesnt like this song? pls get a life nd stop doing free publicity here.We are all entitled to our opinions biko and IMO this song is a FLOP!! take it or take it,if we dont like d song doeant make us heatrs. The word HATERS is soo overrated so me thinking this song is an EPIC FAIL,boring is a hater? me not liking this song doesnt stop odas frm liking it dat’s why it’s music pple have diff taste in music.

      July 15, 2012 at 10:32 pm

      July 16, 2012 at 12:29 am

Tas dear I can’t help but say ds, u’re extremely stupid and totally shallow minded. Does he pay ur unknown ass for al ds nonsense. Here’s a shocker, Wande coal has been backing dbanj up since d days of why me! U’re clueless as to what is going on in ur idol’s life and yet u come here to empty ur silly thoughts! PS: pple r allowed to say their minds about somthn. Disagreeing isn’t the same thing as hating. If u went to schl u’d kno dt

    • Bisi

      July 16, 2012 at 11:45 pm

@Tomi,lemme now tell u where u goofed! If i went to skool,i shld know the difference btwn disagreeing and hating abi?Very well, now go back and read “dutchmoni”s comments, thats wot u call disagreeing and i love evry bit of his comments even tho i am a D”banj die hard fan like someone put it.Dutchmoni disagreed with the song and stated his criticisms very constructively and a few others who criticized in very nice and welcoming manners.Read comments from Busola,Annie (tho” was a bit fair in some cases),1dac and a few others and u wld see that theirs was hating so me dear,i clearly know the difference btwn hating and disagreement so get that into ur skull very quickly pls.The song is not excellent and i deffo didn”t state that it is but the destructive comments here are totally uncalled for alongside the very silly comparisons btwn him and don jazzy. Now if ur not deafened by the hate or whatever term u may like to use other than hate that u have for D”banj,u wld take ur time to listen and pick one or two good stuff from his lyrical lines in this song and if ur not blinded by the instant agreement u have with spiteful comments related to D”banj, u also would have read the comments where someone called him an idiot here, truck pusher and a few other horrible words.Did u respond to them or caution them?Or D”banj is not a human being who doesn”t deserve to be defended?Or b”cos he’s a star, anyone can insult him without being cautioned?Yet i called someone a fool and u and ur fellow mates have the guts to crucify me?U need more mental help as far as i am concerned and take note that being someone”s back up singer is totally UNEQUAL to being the song writer like Annie claimed which i corrected so i really don”t understand ur shocker like u put it or ur points exactly!Don”t be unintelligent as to ask if i was paid to stand up for him or defend him, thats primary skool talk so get off my case pls.Simple advice, criticize constructively!!!!It does no harm to anyone.

D’banj is nobody without Don Jazzy. Don Jazzy is a brilliant producer. Dbanj cannot sing…technology enhanced vocals is not talent. What carried him in the past was the rhythm and beat which Don Jazzy was an expert at; Dbanj is finished, not even the best Def Jam producers here in the USA can save him. Sorry O!!! I love you but…wait, I have an idea, try Lara George’s producer…he seems to know what he is doing.

@Tas u need to grow up and stop insulting people…. i love music and i dont have problem with dbanj but the truth should be told, this song is crap big time…! and if this is the song He said he was going to break into the america music industry with, then he is on a long thing!

    • Tas

      July 15, 2012 at 8:02 pm

@Bayo,this is not about growing up!Some of u have made mockery of him particularly b’cos u lot think that anything he comes up with cannot be satisfactory or good enuf jus because he and don jazzy are not together. He is now subject to so much criticsm forgetting that this dude D”banj has been a force to be reckoned with from day 1.U haven”t commented any better by stating destructively and in a very sarcastic manner that “is this how he wants to flood the american industry” or have u?U wld not respond to the sarcastic comments b”cos u don”t like the song, abi? When he came out with Oliver Twist,i bet u and ur likes were amongst those who crticized him heavily and to ur surprise, that probably is the biggest song ever to come out of Nigeria. That”s still the first song that would have about 8 international singers remixing it,not forgetting our Naija singers e.g Mike Aremu remixing, its still the 1st song to get on UK top charts and deffo the 1st song that would actually be accepted world wide in the real sense of it so give OYATO a break and let the guy be.By the way,was the solar plexus album released by Don Jazzy and the rest of Mavin crew any better?Has it flooded the Nigerian market yet?So really,u lot shld leave D”banj alone.

solar plexus was never meant for d market so there is really no offline distribution.
I am listening to it right now.amarachi, forever, why u over there, just finished. Idja has never made anything better from my point of judgement.

Dbanj stop remixing remixes and go original.y is there no def jam producer on this oyato?
Dbanj na oga west maga to enter naija.i never knew or had more than a passing interest in west until dbanj joined himdont even know any of his song, honest to God.

Only saw him on a comic video like d danger video of psquare some years back.

@ Tas Everyone has been able to state their point of view without foul language. You came out here calling someone else a Fool. I hope you know you can state your point without cursing. What’s good to your ears might not necessarily be good for another person, that’s why there are different genres and beats of Music. You don’t need to bash, curse or crucify someone because they don’t like the song. PEACE!

Going by what a good Afro-pop music should be, I analyze this song like this:
    (1)Beat and instrumentation ===> 6/10
    (2)Lyrics ===> 4/10
(3)Ability of artiste to meet up with expectation and hype ===> 4/10
    Overall Rating ===> (6+4+5)/3 = 4.67/10
Conclusion:The song is below average. No hating,D’Banj needs to work harder. Many upcoming musicians would do better songs. This is by no means a hit in my books!

Solar plexus-mediocre, oyato-atrocious. Both dbanjrecords(what happened to def jam Africa?-na yam???) and mavin have their work out out for them, like beginners just starting in the industry. So dbanj lacks inspiration that Pharisees doubting him is what he sings about? Personally in Nigeria now, any song you can’t dance azonto to is not worth much. Tried on oyato-epic fail!

@Melon X,see how dumb u sound!D”banj is nothing or nobody without Don Jazzy, did u say?U sound pathetic….And who the hell wld Don Jazzy av been without D”banj? Can u answer that?Who made us know Don Jazzy?Which producer in Naija is as famous as Don Jazzy? Can u answer why?B”cos of his alliance wiv D”banj who is the artist who ordinarily should be known as opposed to any producer! The problem wiv u and ur likes is the fact that some of u don”t even realize that there is something called CHANGE and the earlier u realize, the better.Even if D”banj co-habits with the best producer in this whole wide world and the best song writer in the world, fools like u wld still not be satisfied all b’cos he”s not with the so-called Don Jazzy we all know he started with.D”banj is this BIG today b’cos thats his destiny and not b”cos of some Don Jazzy”s beats b’cos any right thinking person shld know that what sells D”banj is FAR from music alone. He”s clearly a BRAND who has over the past few years been able to convince listeners that music is not only about vocal talent or lyrical content per say. There”s much more to music and the relativity of music is much deeper than any myopic person can imagineBy the way, this same guy has always told anyone who cared to listen and still cares to that he’s NOT the best singer in Nigeria so stating that all in the name of dropping ur poisonous comments is absolutely irrelevant. He may not have the best vocal ability or best lyrical content but hey,his sense of humour is off the hook and that alone wld uplift any neytral person”s soul whilst listening. Not only that,he is an excellent mono instrumentalist whose harmonica sounds would light up almost any for of music till eternity jus like ur bitter self shld ordinarily admit,he also is the most energetic/charismatic and infectious 21st century Nigerian performer so really, wots ur stress?evryone has summin working for him or her and like i stated above,D”banj undoubtedly has quite a number of stuuvs working for him hence his achievements till date.
there u go stating u love him and at the same time, giving him some trashy sarcastic advice by telling him to hire Lara George’s producer????Smh……Me dear, keep ur advice to urself as d”banj CLEARLY doesn”t need it.Moreso, how many Nigerians or even Americans sing actual sense? So ur point exactly pls?Songs like Loke Loke,Celebrate,Fall in Love,Olorun Maje,Remix of Endowed,Mobolowowon and a few others by D”banj make a good number of sense so deal with it mehnn…..

I don’t understand why people would want to drop comments like “the truth is the song is crap” and expect to be respected. Let me school y’all a little, it should be common sense but it’s clearly not, the truth is subjective. So keep your none sense opinions to yourselves about what you consider the truth and stop trying to play God.

To others, please be fair and constructive in your criticisms. This beat is something Don Jazzy would have certainly made. The beat is standard and as for the song needing Don Jazzy’s vocals, c’mon people change is good!

    July 15, 2012 at 7:08 pm

@Annie,kindly open ur hears pls……D”banj sang…..”in case u forget” and not dissing Don Jazzy so listen well before dropping comments. He has not displayed any form of childishness like u av claimed. And i can”t understand y u wld compare D”banj with Asa/Nneka……For heavens sakes,Nneka and Asa started their musical careers abroad and they sing sooo differently frm D”banj.D”banj is D”banj and has his own style so some of these comparisons btwn him and others makes no sense.Even in Nigeria here, how many ppl really know Asa/Nneka in the real sense of it?How many ppl really enjoy their kind of songs here in Nigeria? How many kids even know they both exist?D”banj has worked much harder as far as i am concerned ‘cos he started here and has been able to spread his tentacles extremely well so pls appreciate wot needs to be appreciated .Furthermore,D”banj DOES NOT need a Don Jazzy to play his harmonica “cos even Don Jazzy, despite being a multi instrumentalist CANNOT handle a harmonica.D”banj is excellent at his harmonica and wld play it to the tune of any song jus like he did in New York where the entire crowd went gaga! Some of u need to understand that no one is undisputable and there really wasn”t anything spectacular abt Don Jazzy.Wot many sensible ppl appreciate which i very much agree with is the fact that their combination simply equated SUCCESS so pls relent in crediting Don Jazzy alone.
All in one, this new single by D”banj is good enough……SIMPLE!

I had to pump first track on solar plexus to bring my mood back up. Pls pls pls… someone stop this. Who ever did this to this boy should take their time o. And pls believe i listen to a lot of good music from guys i can’t even stand – so this is not a matter of hating. STRAIGHT TALK. Kinda hard to understand those who say the song is a flop less than 24 hrs after it’s release! Just like the ‘mavin guys, it’ll take time for them to sort themselves out. Don Jazzy is a great producer and D’banj is a fantastic entertainer, together they were dynamite, I guess we expected too much from the both of them. What is obvious to me now that both guys had a synergy!! I am Yoruba and absolutely love the sound, I also see the international influence in the production, JSleek was superb. Dbanj and in fact most other naija artistes have never really had great lyrics, it’s always been in the beat. So this will definitely grow. The market and the clubs will determine how well this does. It needs time to get around and also the beef needs to die down between em fans. Me I no dye use panadol for anode person headache, if Dbanj and Jazzy get beef na dem wahala be dat… I am loving the music chikena…..truth is, if he wants to conquer the world, he is going to have to evolve a style slightly diff from whatbwe know. J am a Mo hits fan. I pray they all do great in their different sojourns!!!!!!

I know a very good video will follow and it will help distract us a little. I am an entertainment Journalist and I hope Dbanj listens to the truth and not the people that collected recharge cards and peanuts to do ‘follow-follow’ hype. Hey dell or bell or watevr whatever u write here holds no water the fact is wande coal writes most of dbanj’s songs and this particular oyato or oyasi is a FLOP unless of course he puts 9ice in the remix. The fact is only donjazzy understands dbanj and his harmonica hence needs to swallow his pride and hits the studio with donjazzy but if he wants to remain consistent in singin the oliver twist kinda song any producer could that.Have y’ll forgotten so soon that dbanj said in an interview that donjazzy told him not to do away with the mouth organ that it needs to be incorparated in the music. You think donjazzy dat said the mouth organ needs to be incorporated in the music doesnt knw wat beat to give.Hey dell u said CHANGE? haha if u say change how come dbanj is going back to his harmonica days is dat change? pls dat is simply retardation.People expected more from dbanj, pple need oliver twist kinda song. You refuse to make reference to the part where i said dey both need eachoda. The fact is they both need eachoda or they continue to FLOP!! tho we have to get used to them doing their stuffs independently so dont expect us to just like a donjazziless song like dat or expect us to hear a dbanjiless production frm donj. Also he dint have to call donjazzy’s name for us to knw it’s a diss song y’ll knw it.The fact is WANDE COAL WRITES DBANJ song and if u refuse to admit it consider the atlantic. The guy doesnt even knw abt ur existence nd u thing telling one shut up will change d fact that this music is a FLOP!! and yes i’ll compare asaa nd nneka with dbanj cos he clearly is trading the same lane with them hence the comparism. You have to knw music is for different pple u said small kids doesnt knw abt nneka and asa,dey dont need to knw dem b4 they got to where they are today. The fact is asa and nneka done did watevr he doing.Asa and nneka sings soul so u dont expect little kids on the street to knw just like pple in downtown LA,ghetto dont knw abt adele.Dbanj’s music is afrobeat so u shld expect it on the streets.SO whetr i shut up or not doesnt stop this mucis from FLOPPING( i knw it’s dat part that hits u hard but u have to admit it,am sorry.

    • Dell

      July 15, 2012 at 11:31 pm

@Annie,first of all i still insist that the basis of comparison btwn D:banj and Nneka/Asa is totally BASELESS!How are they threading the same line and in wot manner pls?Jeez darling, how can u sit and write that he did not need to mention Don Jazzy”s name before u know its Don Jazzy he’s referring to?That sounds so unintelligent a statement from u!Listen and listen good hunnie,Wande Coal does NOT write D”banj”s songs so mehnnn, shut it real quickly and the earlier u do,the better.R u so jobless as to sit and reply evry message? When he sang Mobolowowon,na Wande Coal write am abi?The entire No Long thing album,na Wande Coal write am?Like D”banj knew Wande Coal existed at that point in time abi? When he sang all the songs in his Run Down Funk u up album,na Wande Coal write am?Smh for ignorant people like you!Its unfortunate u think ur statements are actually true.Yes Don Jazzy said he shldn”t leave the Harmonica,So???????We shld give Don Jazzy a round of applause for that? But really, wot has change got to do with him not going back to his harmonica?Do u understand English at all?Any right thinking person who read my initial write up directed at u would understand wot i meant by CHANGE in the context in which i used it.Ur the one who shld consider the Atlantic since ur myopic self insists on writing fabricated bullish as regards who writes whose songs but before u get to the Atlantic, make sure u do a triple somersault on ur way.
Useless human being u must be “cos i bet u were one of the arses who wld have down graded and rubbished “Oliver Twist” when it first came out just like u have done to Oyato and to your miserable surprise,Oliver Twist gained absolute world wide recognition.By HIS grace,it wld be in ur presence that this OYATO would be a success.Sit there and be wishing its a flop barely 24hrs of its release.Ur a sadist!Wot have u achieved in ur life?Yes D”banj doesn”t kno i exist but am better off loving and constructing critically than destructively like u.Others who don”t like the song DID NOT sound as bitter as u have sounded so far.

@tas it still doest stop d fact that 75% thinks it crap rather than attacking pple stating out their opinions u shld write a letter to dbanj telling to to start making another jam or a remix to this song ft 9ice cos this is more of 9ice’s style of music. using his yoruba words and all maybe that will create a wider appeal to musci listeners cos wrting all this note wont do any good.Real dbanj’s fan already advised him on what to do on twitter which is ft 9ice ad dat’s wat i came to tell y’ll here. I am nt saying he needs 9ice o or 9ice has a greater fan base dam him of course no but if u want to put out such music,9ice would just garnish it cos he nd 9ice voice surely goes 2geda.

@Tomi dear,ur the one who is extremely stewpid and shallow ‘cos the only thing u av stated is that Wande Coal was D’banj singer……So????We shld start prostrating for Wande Coal ‘cos he was back up singer????Thats no shocker duuuuuuh ‘cos i damn well kno that he did some back up singing for him but is totally UNEQUAL to him writing his songs.Understood?
@Mark Lopez, good that u concur that there arre different genres and beats of music and for that singular reason alone,u alongside others should NOT make mockery of him.I don’t exactly know wot ur opinion is on this song cos u dint exactly state it but hey,u have read other spiteful and sarcastic comments which were uncalled for but no replies to them frm u abi b’cos they dint call him a fool! The sarcastic and miserable comments are totally irrelevant and far worse than calling him a fool!Agreed, some have stated their criticisms constructively but those who have stated theirs destructively shld also be corrected by u since u indirectly claim to sound neutral.Destructive criticisms shld always be a no-no as opposed to constructive criticisms which wld always be welcomed.Wot any right thinking person shlda said was to tell him to work hard and even put in a trillion times more effort than he used to in the past so that he can prove a point?Doesn’t that sound better????
    I rest my case!

I have not made mockery of his music, like you said I am neutral. Calling someone a fool is in no way better than a sarcastic comments. “Most” of the comments here are of people saying they don’t like the song or that he needs to do better than that. You can’t force someone to like a song down their throat. I find the comparisons people are making between him and don jazzy silly. The fact is both of them would not be who they are today if not for the other person. It’s possible for you to have disagreement and still have people respect your point of view.

This tas person must need mor mental help than I thot. Everybody seems to have a reasonable reason for loving or hating the song. D tas person is insulting pple and sounding like a pry schl kid. U’re either dbanj or an unknown ass kisser. Either way, u need help. Oponu

Wld this be the full song or a taster?

D’banj is good, Don Jazzy is good. If they don’t want to be together, please let us try not to compel them to do otherwise. Please be happy for them. They are doing well for themselves, and not for us. 🙂

Maybe we can focus on our talents and abilities, develop them presenting them to the world, abi? Wetin we tink? 🙂

I have listened to the music and my ratings are as follows, if i use dbanj’s standard, then it is a very poor attempt as it shows not alot of attempt was put into the lyrics in my opinion, compare it to suddenly, igwe, pere, oliver twist, you don make me fall in luv etc. For any other person i will give a pass mark but for dbanj no way, you dont pardon a prof that speaks bad grammar in public. if it doesnt give me the feeling like i want to throw away my wrapper and wriggle in the privacy of my room…a beg no be dbanj

All comments here reminds me of Oliver twist release all over again, a year down the line see what we have now losers dancing to it after all their crappy bollocks. Leave them they can’t help but hate…in case you all don’t know he already envisaged all the negative comments from bubble heads like most here. I guess most of you don’t even listen to the lyrics enough to understand it. He is talking to you all! Shine on brother. Hate is only gonna spur you to more greatness. I guess they don’t know that already.

@Tas, i will like to comment on your statement that Femi got Grammy nominations cos he is Fela’s son. Please do take the time out to research well before making public statements. The people running music overseas are quite sensible and will never nominate or give awards to anyone on the merit of who the person’s father is but the handiwork of the Artiste. Femi is about the biggest artiste in Africa whether you like it or not. His management are based in France and Femi plays over 50 concerts (note: not meagre shows, i mean CONCERTS) yearly. His records are sold in Europe and America and he makes tons of Thousands of Dollars, Euro, Pounds from these. It’s not about all these noise making but facts and whats real. You can goggle all these if you are in doubt. RnB / Hip Hop is all about noise making and hype that is why people like P-Square, 2face, Dbanj etc will make noise about themselves and projects cos it’s part of the game. Just like Femi Kuti, Yousssou Ndour from Senegal is very large both in Europe and America but u rarely hear about them cos of the kind of song. Oyinbo will never put thousands of Dollars on you cos you are Fela’s son. This is business and not family hustle. No sentiment in it. It’s strictly money making venture which you must deliver. people coming to watch you perform are not coming because you are Fela’s son. Made Kuti, Femi’s son started playing the trumpet at the age of 3years, he is now about 15 years and in music school in the UK learning more. So by tomorrow he starts playing Big Concerts or get nominated for awards, will you say it is because he is Femi’s son and Fela’s grand son? That’s BULSHIT!!! To tell you this, collaboration with A-list stars no be today ooo, Femi had done collaboration with Hip-hop and pop acts like Common, Mos Def, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, D’Angelo, Macy Gray, and many more. Please check it online. Femi Anikulapo-Kuti, the king of Afrobeat is one of Africa’s most decorated musicians. Like I earlier pointed out, RnB / Hip Hop act like loads of noise and it’s cos of the kind of music they do. Sunny Ade used to be signed on to Island Records which owns Def Jam which Kanye West’s GOOD Music that signed Dbanj is affiliated to. so no be today. just keeping the records straight.

And to add to all Ive said, Sunny Ade had jammed with Stevie Wonder and rolling with ace producer, Quincy Jones
I think this might be useful for you all:
After the death of Bob Marley, Island Records began looking for another third world artist to put on its contract, while Fela Kuti had just been signed by Arista Records. Producer Martin Meissonnier introduced King Sunny Adé to Chris Blackwell, leading to the release of Juju Music in 1982. Many music aficionados are quick to point out that Sunny Adé’s brand music of Juju could not be ignored by anyone at the time,. Today, this seminal recording is often acclaimed as one of the most important records from Africa. Adé gained a wide following with this album and was soon billed as “the African Bob Marley”.

Sunny Adé has said in the past that his refusal to allow Island to meddle with his compositions and over-Europeanise and Americanise his music were the reasons why Island then decided to look elsewhere.

In 2001, Femi collaborated on his album Fight to Win with a number of U.S. musicians, including Common, Mos Def, and Jaguar Wright
in 2002, Femi contributed a remake of his father’s classic song, “Water No Get Enemy”, to Red Hot & Riot, a compilation CD in tribute to Fela Kuti that was released by the Red Hot Organization and MCA. His track was created in collaboration with hip hop and R&B artists, D’Angelo, Macy Gray, The Soultronics, Nile Rodgers, and Roy Hargrove.
Femi Kuti’s voice is featured in the videogame Grand Theft Auto IV, where he is the host of radio station IF 99 (International Funk 99, described as “playing a great selection of classics from West Africa, the US and elsewhere”).
Femi has been nominated for a Grammy award three times in the world music category in 2003, 2010 and 2012
Record Labels/Companies he had worked with includes: Polygram, Barclay/Polygram/Fontana MCA, Tabu/Motown. His current label is Wrasse Records, a British record label which houses other Super stars like Rachid Taha, Ismael Lo, Souad Massi, Angélique Kidjo, Sunny Ade, Ayo, Baaba Mall, Pink Martini, etc

@ABBEY,i totally disagree…..There’s no where in dis world that evrything is done well and straight forward so i beg to disagree wiv ur statements.U CANNOT tell me both Femi and Seun are not enjoying their father’s fame! They UNDOUBTEDLY do and i DON’T av a problem with that one bit ‘cos if i were in their shoes,i wld enjoy my father’s fame and influence anywhere it allows me to!
By the way,i av not said international dealings wiv foreign acts jus started today but the koko is,for this new generation acts,i mean 21st century acts, the first real and obvious and clearly evident and official deal was with D’banj/Kanye.So pls take note that its the 21st generation acts i was referring to.This is the 21st century where the real deal with int’l acts has started off.I hp u grab wot i mean by real deal tho’ and not misinterprete me.
The truth is i really don’t need Femi’s family history at all ‘cos however way u wanna rate Femi,he can’t be rated half as much as his father was rated.
That Fela was the King of Afrobeats doesn’t automatically mean that Femi should take over the position automatically by us.I love Femi without a single doubt but wld give it to Seun much more anytime anyday and anywhere ‘cos his stage moves, his voice and his totality on stage can be likened much more to his father as opposed to Femi’s!

Now for the sensitive Dbanj fans, if he is not critiqued, he will not know true fan reaction to his new music. Having said that, I think this particular single is aimed at a very narrow demographic area/group. He is now on the world stage and should not forget that. Secondly, I think he needs to stop looking back so he can move forward. People respond better to positive lyrics/actions better than not so positive ones . he is a big boy and I am one of his loyal fans. This joint is probably not a final cut. It needs to be more upbeat.

Kingsley and annie were right. Arab u are funny. Tas u are just a die hard fan. D truth is dat d sound rocks in a car, d harmonica was bam. But d flaws are d shallow lyrics, nt tap backup and hey Dbanj cn do beta dan dis. D sound wnt hv good impact abroad( is a no charter). Oliver Twist is beta than dis, he should be relaesing beta songs than Oliver twist. I trust he wil step up, even dat wande coal private trip sounds more international, whoever says is a lie dnt like dbanj. But dis song is a hit in naija afterall, my car is pumping hard Oyato

@dutchmoni,i appreciate ur response/comments,if only some critics here wld tread along ur line of criticism!
@Tomi,i think ur the one who actually needs mental help.Firstly,u must have read some very spiteful and sarcastic comments directed at D’banj on this site except ofcourse u need glasses or ur blinded by the instant negative reaction ur ready to pour out when it comes to issues regarding D’banj ‘cos i see u didn’t respond to the destructive comments towards him here. Some went as far as urging him to be a truckpusher, calling him idiot and running him down totally all in the name of not being wiv don jazzy and u had no responses to their comments or did u?Abi the D’banj they abused is not a human being who shld not be defended? And u have the guts to respond to mine ‘cos i called someone a fool???U deffo have issues and its either ur deafened by the hate u have for D’banj by not listening to his wordings and picking out one or two good stuff from his lyrics if not many OR ur blinded by the hate u have for D’banj to the extent that u claimed that evryother person here has managed to state their points constructively! Are u flipping kidding or is English Language ur problem?Even Annie i started off with first cldn’t help but concur to one or two sensible points but in ur own case, its been totally a shame.Whether i am a die hard fan or not,i still insist that the comparisons btwn him and don jazzy is extremely senseless and like dutchmoni wrote here, they both made eachother and shared a symbiotic relationship and not a parasitic one!And the bullish talk abt Wande being his back up singer being equated to writing his songs is even dumber even tho’ u thot it was a shocker so pls, view all comments before u conclude on who needs mental help and who does not.
