Nollywood Actress Mercy Johnson & her Husband Prince Okojie Celebrate Baby Purity at her Church Dedication & Thanksgiving Party | All the Photos
It was a very celebratory Sunday, April 28, 2013, for Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson and her husband, Prince Odianosen Okojie, as the couple dedicated their 4 month old daughter, Purity Okojie.
The child dedication ceremony took place at the Christ Embassy Church and later on, the couple held a reception for family and friends at their Ajah home. Some of their well-wishers include Ufuoma Ejenobor, Faithia Balogun, Jennifer Eliogu and Tricia Eseigbe-Kerry

Thank you BELLANAIJA for posting a full set of pictures because when I saw the picture of her in red as well as the baby on another blog, I was wondering why she would have her child wearing red instead of white for her dedication. And now I see that she did wear white but changed for the reception. Y’all are on point! Very nice, MERCY!

exactly what I was wondering, that who the hell put red on a baby during her dedication?. I still don’t think red was appropriate this day at all,imo there shouldn’t have been red at all………..maybe Nigerian cultures are different(ofcourse) but in my culture(ga adangbe from Ghana which they normally call GA people,we migrated from ile ife Nigeria to accra),when a woman has a baby, she doesn’t wear any other color but white for 6mons(and especially not red) then after that, there is a custom we perform before she can wear other colors. red signifies blood, sadness or royalty(we wear red when a royal passes away). and for a new mom like her,i think its a wrong colour choice but hey,ur traditions and customs and cultures might be different from ours,so!
whatever!
May 3, 2013 at 3:24 pm
@ honey, did she tell you she’s from Accra or whereever u say you are from? abegi that ur theory is nt applicable here go sidon.

oh please… culture culture culture where she is from n what she believes in doesn’t forbid any color. color means different things to different people. i personally am not cut off for all these tradition n culture thing coz of my faith. to each his own

so what if she wore red?! since when does color determine anything in a baby’s life.

I dont think there is any rule that says babies must wear white for their
dedication. My baby wore a red dress.

what a cute family. that baby is soo cute. and mercy is looking really good. this pregnancy has really added something to her, i can’t place my hands on it. i am happy because even when people called her ugly, dirty, and taunted her black skin, she has made it and she is happy. she is still one of the best and richest actresses in nigeria, and she makes most of her money from movies. go mercy!

I agree, I have to say I was taken aback at African people saying those things, but she obviously didn’t let negativity bother her and has a comfortable and happy life. Good for Mercy. Much love and blessings to you and your family from the Caribbean!!!

Now that she is a mother and know how precious children are, I hope she encourages her husband to support his other children whom he had to deny to get married to her. If those innocent children have to go through life without the love and care of their father which every child deserves, then trust me this will only be temporary. No one should gain their happiness through others’ misery and I’m talking to both her and her “dead beat dad” of a husband. PS, If this makes it through Bella’s comments (which I doubt it will) please save your “Hate and Jealousy” comments to yourselves. There are a lot of women in the world that I am Jealous of, this particular one is NOT one of them.

@ FBI and Anon – The both of you have proven that most of the times it appears that people just do things for doing sake without understanding the significance of it. It is not a “rule” but it is a long standing tradition with SPIRITUAL significance behind it.
A baby wearing white at their dedication signifies the child’s purity and innocence. Baptism/dedication is meant to cleanse the child of the original sin from Adam & Eve and dedicate the child in Christ. The white garment represents putting on Christ. It is a sign of becoming a new creation, clothed with Christ. It is an outward sign of the Christian dignity of the baptized/dedicated, allowed to bring that dignity unstained into eternal life.
@ Anon – Assuming you got married in church, did you wear just any color? Why did you wear white and not black or blue or red? White is to signify the purity/innocence of the bride (laughable in our society today where pregnant women wear white).
@ HONEY – thank you for the lesson. I love to learn about other cultures. In China, the color red has long had special significance in China, symbolizing health, wealth and good wishes. Newlyweds and children are presented with gift money tucked inside red packets, brides traditionally wear red gowns at their weddings, and celebratory fireworks always come wrapped in red paper. Each country has it’s own way of celebrating which is what makes the world very interesting if we open up to all it’s many wonders.

Aawww nice!! 🙂 Beautiful family n Baby Purity is soooo sooooo cuuuute!! 😀 Bless her!!
Luv the red theme! Just beautiful n stands out as always! Very lovely trad look which i luv most, but not feeling her whole reception look. No doubt that red dress is gorgeous, but wish the length was directly below her knee or even a midi length. Also a size or two up in that dress wud have been perfect n that body wud have still rocked in my opinion. But daaaang Mercy that booty tho!!!!!!!!!! 😀 Hair n makeup just wasnt it too at all!
In all BIG CONGRATS to U & Urs on ur beautiful bundle of joy!!
