GroomInspiration: From White to Gold – What Colour Will Your Wedding Suit Be? Here Are Some Ideas!
When it comes to suits, there are so many colours for the groom and his groomsmen to choose from. Unlike brides who traditionally choose white dresses, grooms can choose from a wide range of colours. They can also decide to mix the blazer with a different colour of pants.
With most grooms now also having second outfits, we have highlighted some of our favourite suit colours below.
White/Off White
This became a clear favourite for grooms and groomsmen in 2014. From the red carpet to the wedding day, white was no longer a colour reserved exclusively for the bride. The common trends have been tuxedos with white or black shawl lapels, generally paired with matching white or black bow ties.
Black
The classic black tuxedo will always be a favourite. Asides it being easy to coordinate for the groomsmen (especially when you don’t want your friends to invest in new suits), the look is sophisticated yet not overwhelming for the eyes.
The classic black suit is generally complemented with a matching black bow tie, a white bow tie or sometimes with a coloured bow tie matching the bridesmaids’ dresses.
Grey
Grey might well be the ‘underdog’ when it comes to choices for the groom’s suit, we don’t see that many grooms in it. It however compliments most colours nicely as it is versatile and can easily be combined anything from a black bow tie or even a bright pink necktie!
Blue
There are so many different shades and combinations to choose from. In recent times, the most common has been the three-piece midnight blue suit. We have also seen grooms in light and electric blue suits. The choice of what shade could be determined by the colour theme of the wedding among other factors. Grooms can also decide to pair their blue suits with grey waistcoats or matching blue ones.
Now that we have covered off the more standard colours, the following are a few colours you probably didn’t think you could wear on your wedding!
Green
When we say green, we don’t mean light or lemon green! With most colours, the particular shade will determine whether it is ‘acceptable’ or not. Unless you are out to colour block (which by the way is very 2013!), choose accessories that will tone down the suit colour. Also ensure that the bridesmaids are not wearing a conflicting colour.
Gold
This is another colour we haven’t seen that many grooms wear. However, a few have been able to pull off the look. As with the green suit, ensure that the bridesmaids dresses and the wedding colours are not conflicting. Also choose accessories that will complement the look.
Red
Yes. Red!
This colour is definitely not for the faint hearted. However, with the right fit and colour combination, this is a great way for the groom and his men to stand out. It is however important to ensure that this does not conflict with the colour of the bridesmaids dresses.
Cream
This is a safer option if you decide not to go for the one of the more popular choices. With the cream suit, choosing brightly coloured accessories may be a good idea in order to sharpen the entire look.
