Do You Have a Viable Business Idea? Be One of 5 Young Entrepreneurs to Get N3.5 Million with Microsoft

Microsoft Lumia - BellaNaija - February 2015

As part of its commitment to supporting the development of entrepreneurship in Nigeria, Microsoft Mobile Devices and Services would be awarding N3.5 Million to 5 Nigerians with brilliant business ideas in its Microsoft Lumia 535 Dual SIM activation, tagged “Passion to Empire“. The initiative will run from Monday 16th February to Tuesday 31st March 2015.

According to Joseph Umunakwe (General Manager, Microsoft Mobile Devices and Services, West Africa) “Passion to Empire” would help young entrepreneurs push their boundaries and test the strength of their ideas.

Running a start-up is challenging in any environment, so Microsoft wants to empower entrepreneurs in Nigeria who have great business ideas. “Passion to Empire” would not be about a cash grant only. The winners will also be mentored by highly successful celebrity entrepreneurs – House of Tara’s Tara Fela Durotoye, Chocolate City’s Audu Maikori and Jobberman’s Opeyemi Awoyemi.” Umunakwe said.

To participate in “Passion to Empire”, interested entrepreneurs need to do the following;

– Buy the Microsoft Lumia 535 Dual SIM or any other Lumia smartphone or tablet
– Make a video detailing how you plan to grow your business
– Label the video with your name and IMEI number

    So entrepreneurs that can’t afford to buy the fone, do not deserve capital. Rubbish!

    If you want N3.5 million and you cant buy a 25k phone, then you are not desperate enough to need that seed capital. Can’t ppl be ingenious for once? Have you thought about using your friend’s or siblings Lumia phone to record the video?
    And if you cant lay your hands on one, but one it will still be yours and a valuable asset for your business.
    If you can’t buy one, trade your current phone……haba!

    Nokia /Microsoft is trying to market their brand while giving sth away and yet ppl want it for free. I am not sure you need the money.

      What are you saying??? Does my buying a lumia phone hand me the 3.5 million naira automatically? There will still be a selection process to pick 5 people out of the barage of applicants. There are still a couple of less-demanding applications for entreprenuers out there, I will better save my 25,000 and spend on something useful, except I need the lumia of course.

      In business, its called barrier to entry my dear, so people like you who have more “useful purpose for your 25k will not apply. That makes the space less crowded for the more passionate ones who will stand a better chance of empire since all the free loaders wont be there to overwhelm the judges. its official, you”ve been gated…hahahaha.

    Daft. If they want to help they should help. Rather than tie it to purchasing one of their devices. They’ll make enough off the sales of the devices to sponsor the winners. Hiss.

    Guys, we spend money on phones, if you have a lumia fine and if you dont then forget it…but its a great idea and i have decided to borrow my cousins phone..the exposure and experience is worth it. If we can buy phones for fun why can we but it for work and a chance to expand our business

    Nice idea, it’s about passion. If you are really passionate about your business as I am then it’s worth more than the cost of the phone. My question is how do they protect ideas submitted to them, won’t they steal some of the ideas?

      Ideas are one dime a dozen my dear…they will probably wait until you can grow it to the size of Nokia or Skype and then buy it.
