Last month, BellaNaija shared the inspiring story of  marathon runner and super amazon, Tuedon Morgan. {Click here if you missed it}.

Tuedon has kept in touch with the BN Team and recently shared her most recent achievement with us.

Here is what she said:

I became the first Nigerian to step foot in the North Pole and I ran a marathon on the north like. I ran the  North Pole Marathon to support the National Black Marathoner Association. The North Pole Marathon is no easy feat. The North Pole is run on Arctic ice floes, with 6 to 12 feet separating you from 12,000 feet of Arctic Ocean.Remember, this marathon is not run on land – it is run ‘on’ water, frozen water, in the high Arctic.

I don’t think I have ever done anything so difficult. The last 4KM were the hardest. I was seeing things that weren’t there. It was -41C. I was cold. It was a hard race but I kept seeing the Nigerian flag and I knew I had to place it at the end of the race. I pushed for my country. I was in tears when I crossed the finished line. Another thing that really got me worried running the North Pole was my leg. I have a bad leg and it requires me wearing special running shoes. I had to use brand new shoes for the race. It had spikes underneath it. But funny enough my legs were good. I believe so much that God was with me.

Wow! Just WOW! We can’t wait to see more feats from Tee!

Congrats Tuedon, and God bless you. I’m smiling ear to ear. Honestly, Nigerians have it in them, if we can put other things aside, and we live up to our full potential. Nigeria will be one of the top best country. This is inspiring and pushing me to do more in spite of the challenges and obstacles. God bless Nigeria

My brother was showing me this on her snap chat
apparently, people thought it was a man that made such an achievement.

We are proud Tuedon. What inspires me more is that you were not always fit!! but you decided the other way.

I gotta keep up the fit life momentum, specifically for my health first!!

    Yes we can!!

    Congratulations, amazing feat.

I found it a bit contradictory that she is now Nigerian, waving the flag and “pushing for her country” when in the initial interview, she was “British with Nigerian parents”.

You are right!! I hope she didn’t claim it just to have a record to her name. On the bright side, at least the Nigerian flag is at the North pole

Wow. -41C & running on floes? I’m not ashamed to say that this is a level of commitment that I can only admire from over here, chilling under my cosy duvet…

Still a lady boss that stays doing the damn thing, Tinuade!! At least I’m running a wee bit faster on the threadmill these days with you on my mind. 🙂

Tee Morgan has incorrectly claimed to be the first Nigerian to reach the North Pole.

The North Pole marathon that Tee ran takes place approximately 25 miles from the North Pole at Camp Barneo. The North Pole is an exact point at the geodetic latitude 90° North.

The organisers of the marathon confirmed to us verbally & by email that Tee did not join the other runners on the 45 minute helicopter ride to the North Pole. All runners are given the option of flying to the North Pole but Tee Morgan declined to go.

We also obtained the letter from Camp Barneo (we can provide on request) who operate the helicopter flights as further confirmation that Tee Morgan did not reach the North Pole.

The Amazu family, Sir Og, Lady Joy, Monica (age 9) and Aimee (age 6) were the first Nigerians to reach the North Pole. www,challenge100.com
