Pastor Adeboye: I Don’t Hate Homosexuals

Adeboye NEW BellaNaijaGeneral Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A Adeboye recently took to his official Facebook page to set the record straight on how he feels about homosexuality.

Here’s what he said:

I went to a country and the press was waiting for me, why because they said they believe I hate homosexuals. I don’t hate anyone and you can do whatever you want to. But man marry man and woman marry woman. Then no need to stop global warming because soon there won’t be new born children. What’s that they want to adopt, who will give birth to the child and how ?

What are your thoughts on his views?

This was the best he could come up with?! This guy go school at all? Homosexuality hasn’t stopped Nigerians from popping babies anyhow.

who will give birth to the child >>> Surrogates, Artificial insemination, Abandoned and orphaned babies

You forgot that even with artificial insemination you need a female egg and a male’s sperm abi?

i support his view jare. homosexuals are humans, you don’t hate another human being, you hate the act they perpetrate. Christians are not against homosexuals they are against what homosexuals do which are against the scriptures. Thank you pastor.

    • Author Unknown

      May 5, 2015 at 1:14 pm

Yes, but why continually single out homosexuality like it’s a bigger ‘sin’ against the scripture than the numerous ‘sins’ listed in it? I think many people just use the scripture to cover up their own bigotry. Not sure how true it is, but I had heard the recent anti-gay law in Nigeria was a ‘gift’ from GEJ to Christians. If there is any truth to that, I’m sorry but Christians have missed road.

The pastor’s response was half decent, and he seems to recognize his position as a spiritual leader not to condemn any group of people. However sexuality, marriage, and procreation can be very mutually exclusive things. You can procreate without getting married, and not every married person will, or wishes to procreate – isn’t marriage (according to the scripture) supposed to be for companionship? What about adoption by heterosexual people? IVF or surrogacy by straight or gay against the scripture? Gay people are born by straight people, while some straight people are born by gay people. Truth is certain aspects of life and sexuality will forever remain mysterious. Let’s all calm down.

    • Damilola

      May 5, 2015 at 1:39 pm

Fornication is single out all the time too especially in Christian environment. A guy and a girl are seen together, people start judging, are they sleeping together or Saving themselves for marriage. It’s a natural thing that happens. And many cultures that are not Christian influenced are expected to keep themselves till marriage. I know, my Vietnamese friend who is Buddhist told me that. And that’s the reason there’s always argument of defense, oh couples should be allowed to do what they want, it’s between them and God. Homosexuality is another level, it involves same sex. It’s not the norm, it’s not what people are used to seeing. It doesn’t lead to reproduction. It’s perversion. Just like if an elderly man and a little girl is seen together, everybody will be uncomfortable. Same sex and opposite sex can’t be compared to each other. God hates sin altogether, he gives you chances to repent turn away but at a point HE will also leave you to a reprobate mind. God is love and also a judge(the side of God many want to deny).

all sins are sins.. but always remember sodom and gomorrah perished because of it… because of homosexuality not lying… sin of d flesh…

    • Author Unknown

      May 5, 2015 at 2:20 pm

@ rocky. Bear in mind that the Sodom and Gomorrah story was written by men (or a man – not Jesus) no doubt homophobic, and who likely would have condemned you for being black at the time, but I won’t get into that aspect for now. Ask yourself why if S & G were destroyed because of homosexuality, it hasn’t since happened, despite the fact that homosexuality continues to thrive and grow through the ages in every country in the world despite the subjugation that the majority continues to subject them to. Man hasn’t been able to stop it, and God clearly has chosen not to destroy them like the S & G story. Why do they survive? Because their existence is a part of human nature. It’s really that simple.

    • phine

      May 5, 2015 at 5:56 pm

No one is singling them out, but if they continue to rub it in our faces then they should be able to accept our response to it. Sin is sin. You are right. But u dont ‘ see fornicators for example trying to force their ‘beliefs’ or why they think fornicating might be right on others. Why are homosexuals trying to make us think their ways are right? As he said do what u think is best for you but you don’t have to make a sorry party. if someone is trying to justify something so bad then maybe there is indeed something wrong!

    • Author Unknown

      May 5, 2015 at 8:44 pm

@ phine. Because ‘fornicator’ is not a social identity, while ‘homosexual’ is. The straight majority has made it so, and for that reason made life unnecessarily more difficult for them. Everybody wants to feel accepted. It’s a human desire.

      May 5, 2015 at 10:33 pm

He didn’t single out homosexuality – the press (wherever he was visiting) brought it up and this is a response to their allegation or question. I can count the number of times I’ve heard pastor Adeboye speak/preach and so far I haven’t heard him preach on homosexuality (even though I’m pretty sure where he stands) rather he’s focused more on stealing, unfruitfulness (not spreading the word), unbelief, etc. at the services I’ve been to where he was the speaker (including Holy Ghost night). So I’m not entirely sure where you got this idea…

A gift from GEJ to Christians? Um every Nigerian religion and tradition is opposed to homosexuality. Every single one! Anything contrary to the institution of marriage as we know it is borrowed. Nigerians will accept polygamy but some foreigners wont and he criminalised it because there was pressure from other countries to allow gay marriages, if he did that majority of Nigerians would be appalled. So it is a gift to the nation. Last time I checked nobody was arrested or probed but GEJ or not I dont know if Nigerians are ready to start attending gay weddings 😐

oga, no one is singling anyone out. the topic could have well been “fornication” or “stealing” or anything but this time “homosexuality” is… is it until all the negative things are listed b4 u know he’s not singling it out? smh

my lord, what are you? STUPID?

    • Damilola

      May 5, 2015 at 1:52 pm

Here comes Bruno who can’t make his point without insult. If your mummy and daddy didn’t come together, you won’t be here. Same sex can’t reproduce, and what’s the point of life then. You are suppose to live, create and die while life continue through your offspring.. Don’t come with any bs what about straight couples that can’t have children. The fact is, majority of straight couples have children. And even some lesbian couples still need a sperm to carry their own child. Or males still need an egg. Adoption is good but nothing like your own.

And what will you tell your adopted child. There are two daddy in the house unless you go for a transsexual, even that still doesn’t change the original sex. It creates a lot of confusion for children at that age. However, I also read about a girl who grew up with lesbian parent and is now outwardly against homosexuality. So, I guess some children raised in such environment when they grow up, go through life they will still make their own choice. Some end up gay others end up straight. . I respect people like Ellen degeneres who chose not to have kids. Or oprah. If you are not ready to be a parent, give your child what he/she needs in life, don’t do it.

    • Asgrl

      May 5, 2015 at 10:18 am

Who is bullying them, if not for people like you and children you raise with your own similar view? How about you raise your children to mind their own damn business?

  5. bruno

    May 5, 2015 at 9:03 am

what a very stupid logic, can every body in this world be gay. NO.
everybody can’t be gay. some people will reproduce while some won’t. there are so many straight people who don’t want kids. example oprah. so what are u saying?

pastor adeboye incase u didn’t know the world is over populated. so many human beings very little resources.

by the way who toldu gay people can’t reproduce. matt bomer and his husband has 3 boys, ricky martin has twin boys.etc

    • so what

      May 5, 2015 at 10:05 am

Please was it Matt or his partner that was pregnant?i.e. physically carried a foetus in a womb?

    • Seriously

      May 5, 2015 at 2:18 pm

      @ Bruno

So, bcos the world is too populated, we should now go against nature. Let the world be overpopulated, it will still survive. As new ones are born, many die too. That’s the natural way.
It’s not like oprah can’t conceive, she chose not to have a child. She became pregnant at a very young age but the child didn’t survive. She mentioned, her life is dedicated to her career , and she feels like her child won’t get the proper attention she will like the child to have minus nannies.
Gay children get bullied like other kids. Kids are cruel to each other, you are bullied for being too dark, light, thin, fat, red hair, albino, have small eyes, big eyes, bow leg, k leg, etc some kids have it worse than others. Teach your child to be strong minded and prepare for what comes with being different. Just bcos these gay kids can’t deal with it and take their own lives doesn’t mean they are the only ones that are bullied. The problem is, gay people suffer from wanting everybody to accept their lifestyle. No honey, it ain’t happening. I mean, look at the tantrums Bruno throws when he can’t have his way on here. Now that he can’t like his own comment hundred times, I wonder how he will survive.

  6. chique

    May 5, 2015 at 9:05 am

If such world spiritual leaders are careful of their use of words then we need to learn from them. Rather than coming out point blank to some sensitive issues (whether in our life, marriages, career, relationship. Etc) its better we use wisdom. Its not always black or white their is always a grey area. #things to learn from people

    • Mz Socially Awkward...

      May 5, 2015 at 1:28 pm

There are no grey areas. We are a very divided church today because of the desire to stay silent so that we’re not thrown the wolves and because of that shift in focus, we’ve come to discover a new fear of men. Men, who live and breathe much the same as we do and don’t have the merest ability to determine whether in sleeping today, they will in fact wake up tomorrow… in other words, we’re growing more afraid of other human beings without the ability to control the variances of their own finite existence, much less our own…

He’s a Pastor of a Church and I wasn’t expecting him to sit on the fence on this topic. In the same way that everyone else has the freedom to speak of and practice what they believe in, Christians should be accorded the liberty to be honest about how their Faith makes it impossible for them to truly endorse the act of homosexuality. I’m not afraid to say to anyone that I do not support or accept homosexuality. And in saying that, I know there’s a huge wave of protesting views about the many reasons why my belief is out of place with what two consenting adults choose to do with their own bodies. And why Christians can’t decide to impose their definition of “sin” on other people’s actions. I have no problem with accepting that other people don’t practice my beliefs and we can’t all see things from the same side BUT that should not affect my own beliefs in any way.

As long as you’re sure of what side of the argument you fall on, there isn’t any need for grey areas and asking him to speak with wisdom is one thing (and I can certainly get behind that advice) but asking him to shift his stance on what he believes in order to appeal to his listening audience, does not cut it.

Finally, this addendum is needed for those who may not understand the point being made in my 2nd paragraph above. I can’t ever endorse the act itself but that should not automatically equate what I’ve said to a correlated hatred of homosexuals. This is the argument which I think Pastor Adeboye as well as other Christians have to encounter every time they state their view on the topic and I think it’s very unnecessary. Let’s juxtapose homosexuality with, oh I don’t know… adultery, for instance. Do I know people who’ve committed (and are still committing) adultery? Yes, I do. Do I hate them? No I don’t. I will never endorse the act of messing about in your marriage but it’s not my place to hate you for it. My sole responsibility is to maintain my respect and obedience to the calling I’ve received through Jesus Christ. That is all.

I love you! Exactly what I was telling another the other day. Christians are now scared of saying the ‘truth’ for fear of being tagged ‘subjective’ and ‘intolerant’. Oh there is a common term, ‘Hypocrisy’
I do not care if the world sees with me. So long as I stand for what the Holy Spirit has taught me. I do not support homosexuality and will never see it as normal. I’d only love and pray for those involved in it.

It’s different if busy body just carries us to a post that didn’t ask for an opponion and we give one anyway, but here it specifically asked for one. Not everyone supports these so called religious leaders and their brainwashing tactics, so when you ask for an opponion about an issue as controversial as this, of course you are going to expect a wide variety of opinions ranging from “I absolutely agree”, to ” hell no I do not agree one bit! I think it’s STUPID!” We take out time to actually sit down and read this blog, and contribute to it’s success by sharing it’s posts and dropping our comments.

  10. Hello There

    May 5, 2015 at 9:51 am

His words were “I don’t hate anyone” and that defined the true heart of Christianity.
A true follower of Christ may condemn actions, but he would not hate people. Even with actions you don’t agree with, you still have to accept and love people. The power of the ministry of Christ is Love.
Sometimes you have to think, even in the middle of your homophobic rage, “what would Jesus do?”
Did Christ ever judge anyone? Even when he encountered people who were condemned by society, he interacted and showed them the light.
Homophobia especially by Christians in Nigeria needs to stop. It’s a fruitless phenomenon that’s counterproductive to our Spiritual lives.

HATE the act not the PERSON! I hardly write about sensitive issues . If you’re in this situation, and you don’t like the act, just keep believing that this will pass. Homosexuality is a SIN! its in the bible but we have christians struggling with this issue, call it demonic, i really don’t care. But I know so many christians in this situation who really desire a genuine change…

While we wait for that genuine change to happen, each time we wake up daily, don’t only pray for yourself, your family or your job,_ Pray for that Pastor in your church, that chorister, that your colleague, your neighbour, the christians suffering persecution in a strange land, that innocent boy struggling with addiction(drinking, drugs sexual disorder, homosexuality etc).

And lets see if the world won’t be a better place.

Evil prevail when good men DO nothing! Selah.

The world’s human population is not going to end. Why? Babies will continue to be born. Couples who choose to have babies via male-female copulation, surrogacy, artificial insemination, etc. The couples can be hetero, homo, wharraver

Human beings are incredible narcissists. So first of all you are so special and beautiful that you must have been created by a God. That God is so jobless that you not only have a direct line to him, he also has ‘men of God’ that he called to preach about him using a special 66 book called the bible and above all God cares about what you do with your penis and vagina, jokes for days. First of all what happened to God made me I am wonderfully made, made in the image of God,etc. Surely, homosexuals were wonderfully made by the creator and made in his image according to your bible. They were created gay by God. Not only that God also created people who do not believe in him. Humans are not homogenous for as many that we are and as different as our lifestyle and belief systems are we are all entitled to respect. If in your concept of God, people are not allowed to exist the way that is the truest and fullest expression of their humanity. Then, your God must be really artificial, if his feelings get hurt because of what we do with our bodies.

If he had come out to say something else, the whole world would have turned upside down….simple truth is if every one were to be gay, it means we will have to commit adultery to have children….hate the act and not the person …. and be a man of wisdom like daddy GO. haba, even be wise in your words.
