Why cant Abacha be referred to as FORMER PRESIDENT???? Calling him a dictator makes him look bad all way. WHY????

Former dictator implies that he was president. The reverse is not true. So it’s just a more efficient way to describe him.

Wasn’t he bad?when my dad tells you details of Abacha’s regime, you will be convinced the devil himself once ruled Nigeria. He worked for the government and close friend to a prominent family in Nigeria’s history. Nigerians have no conscience and the way they celebrate evil or downplay it is very disturbing . No remorse at all. Buhari hangs out with IBB, Abacha family. These northerners are more patriotic to themselves than Nigeria, that’s if they actually consider themselves a nigerian. To hell with their military friendship and to hell with their wives and children. We don’t know anything, yet you are enjoying the billions your father Looted. These northerners ruined Nigeria and want to destroy that country. We all know Boko haram is sponsored by them. Not once has Buhari condemned their actions. But the God of the Bible, will not allow them. And HE will punish the wicked including their families especially ones who don’t have a repentance heart. Whats here to celebrate, daughter of an evil dictator that started the pithole Nigeria is in today is in Aso Rock? . Buhari, wool in sheep clothing, show me your friend and I will show you who you are. Abachas regime was the ” dark, evil era” The most evil, wicked, heartless dictator in Nigeria, top evil dictator in the world. His regime was like living close to hell. To celebrate him, merely seeing his name anywhere including his children is like seeing the devil face to face.
And to keep throwing these pics in our face is a slap in the face of many Nigerians who lost their lives under his horrific regime. And to downplay it is very selfish.
Abacha rest in hell, and burn forever.

He was not only a dictator but a brutal one. He was also a thief who looted our treasury dry. All the killings recorded during his time as president nko. Dear Mrs Buhari and Zahara these are people you shouldn’t be caught dead with. They are not only bad news to the spotless image your husband is trying to create. The Abacha loot is still pending in Switzerland so avoid these people like plague.

I’m glad you said PMB is TRYING to create a spotless image. Only the gullible is fooled, so let him try harder! And why should the Buhari’s avoid the Abacha’s like a plague when they (Buhari) were beneficiaries of Abacha’s government, with Buhari as PTF executive chairman? Rumour also has it that PMB and some other old generals knows about the death of his erstwhile deputy, Tunde Idiagbon. Politics is indeed very dirty. BN, post my comment.

I take it you either didn’t live in Nigeria during the delightful Abacha years… or you were too young to understand the nuances of how his imposed rule affected the lives of citizens. He forced his ass into ASo Rock without our approval by seizing powers (although, I shouldn’t have to lay out the history as I assume the subject continues to be instructed in schools) and then proceeded to school us into submitting under dictatorship. Call him a Head of State if that sweetens the deal for you but he wasn’t a President to any democratic-minded Nigerian.

Other titles which attest to his eternal infamy:
      – he was a murderer (as the key initiator of Ken Saro-Wiwa’s execution after trial by kangaroo court).
      – he was a thief and I certainly hope that his children are doing their fair share in redeeming their father’s rape of our treasury by returning some of the ill-gotten gains they’ve lived fat on… Or, am I expecting too much decency from that family? Mohammed, we’re looking squarely at you.
      – he was a maniacal despot
      – he was a liar, having proved himself by deceiving the nation with the claim of permitting civilian elections to hold in 1998 but going ahead anyway to crown himself president.
      – he was a pervert of the most interesting kind, with his affinity for “abroad” sexual services.
      – and many others, too numerous to type.

I give you your “President”, otherwise and more properly known as the “dictator whose death we greatly rejoiced over” by almost everyone else.

    • Mz Socially Awkward...

      November 6, 2015 at 1:36 pm

@lola, I don’t you understand what is going to continue happening to Abacha and the family he left behind.

We will judge them forever and into perpetuity simply because they stole from us. He stole people’s futures and literally stole lives as well in addition to looting our treasury. Bloody hell, we’re talking like this isn’t the same website where a post about armed robbers attacking/shooting ordinary citizens gets comments loaded with steady prayers for the destruction and bringing to justice of those criminals. So…. should we treat other criminals differently because they’re cloaked in agbada and their bear certain last names? How can you read the news and see headlines such as Leichesten planning to returning $227million which “belonged” to Abacha or the US disclosing Abacha’s $438million stash (please, join me in sitting down to review those figures again – USD tallying in the hundreds of millions… and these are just the ones we know of ohhhhhhh) and how can you not feel righteously aggrieved?

Abi, you think this Naija situation is an ordinary sumtin or na so life suppose be?

If Frieda who commented above has stolen from anyone, her own victims should feel free to vent their preferred course of judgement but as far as Abacha is concerned… Oh, my Heavenly Goodness. We shall judge him and his kith and kin (with steady prayers) until proper restitution has been carried out on their father’s behalf. Family of the late Abacha, don’t be annoyed oh but this is simply part of your father’s legacy. When the going was good during his years in power, you enjoyed our stolen loot. Now that he’s been post-humously exposed for many evils, the spirits of the dead as well as the living will continue calling out to God about this one man’s wrong-doing, sometimes roping you in and we do so with apologies in advance. Ndo.

This is actually false. This same woman (Abacha’s daughter) is a tribalistic person who lacks manners. I can vividly remember the days when she was viciously abusing those that called her father out for being wicked and a thief on twitter. She had to make her account private because people finished her! How anyone can defend corruption is a misery to me, relative or not.
Buhari is a phoney man. He is surrounded by the MOST CORRUPT individuals yet him & his party behave like he is Messiah here to save us from our predicaments. By the time he shares our money with all his Northern family and friends, your eyes will open.

    • FACTS.

      November 9, 2015 at 1:06 pm

Maybe some of us don’t know, or have forgotten what is at stake here. This in itself is almost criminal given what is at stake so please, therefore, understand and bear with the length of this post, and take time to read through the reproduction of the FACTS. It is for our individual and collective good. Others may call issues such as mysterious disappearances, killings, assassinations, wilful/frivolous imprisonments, jailings and detentions, I will help to remind/put us in the picture of the FINANCIAL aspect only:

Abdulsalami’s government discovered that Abacha’s sons, including the late firstborn were directly involved and worked with their father and various associates such as the Lebanese Chagoury, Atiku Bagudu (a Senator in the last adminisitration up to 2014 that I know of), Gwarzo, to rob the Nigerian treasury and transfer the money into various accounts abroad. Abba Abacha, the third-born son was also arrested and detained by the Swiss government from 2004-2006 on criminal charges and up till 2013 (as the Swiss ambassador openly disclosed in an interview) was still on trial in Switzerland even though he had earlier been released in a deal with the FG,. Abba was actually arrested in Germany, in a bank whilst he was attempting to close an account to which HE WAS THE SOLE SIGNATORY. There were many accounts owned by the family abroad which were under security watch by the Nigerian government. That account was one the FG had not yet discovered. The American CIA discovered that Abba traveled out of Nigeria under a fake name and passport, made a deal with a top manager in the German bank to give him ten percent of the money in the account, the manager played along with him and the agreed day, Abba came to withdraw the money not knowing that the bank had been cordoned off by security operatives, and the rest is history. He was first detained in Germany (in 2004) then extradited to Switzerland in 2005 to face CHARGES ON MONEY LAUNDERING, FRAUD AND BREACH OF TRUST. Based on the multitude of evidence found and the sheer magnitude of the sums involved, the Abacha FAMILY was and is actually regarded and prosecuted as A CRIMINAL ORGANISATION by the Swiss and other foreign governments in their prosecution of them.

In 2013, the Special Investigation Panel set up by the FG, along with their Swiss-based lawyer, Enrico Monfrini, discovered that there is actually $210 billion (yes, two hundred and ten BILLION US dollars) of Abacha stolen money still trapped in offshore accounts. Abdulsami Abubakar’s government discovered $2 billion and got them to return some of that. Right from Abdulsalami’s government (which was immediately after their late dad’s), it was discovered that Abacha’s late first son, and Mohammed the second son, were directly involved in receiving these stolen/fraudulently withdrawn monies from the Central Bank of Nigeria and stashing them in various offshore accounts. The challenge Nigeria has had is that many of the countries where these humongous sums are stashed do not want to return them because these monies are funding and servicing their economies.

In every successive administration, the Abacha family has vigorously and defiantly opposed and fought against every attempt by the Nigerian FG in several law courts abroad to have these monies repatriated and have foreign governments disclose the accounts and true extent of the monies and release them back to Nigeria. The chief representatives of the Abacha family in these law suits (some actually initiated by the family against the Nigerian FG) are always Mohammed and Abba Abacha. With all these facts and events so publcised, open and available in the public space, how can anyone who is not delberately blind, deaf and with evil intent, say Abacha was not corrupt (as Buhari did for very many years and never repudiated even whilst monies were being repatriated back to Nigeria by the Swiss and other governments and all these trials with hard evidence were taking place abroad), and that his children and wife are not involved in their father’s sins?

IT IS ALSO THE HEIGHT OF ARROGANCE, INSENSITIVITY TO AND UTTER DISDAIN FOR THE NIGERIAN PEOPLE (those gullible enough to believe his whitewashing by the APC headed and guided by their hired experts and professionals like Obama’s former presidential campaign director and PR expert, those who remembered all his unchanging actions and utterances across the years and never believed it, and those who knew and know him for exactly what and who he is but promoted him for their own selfish gains ) FOR BUHARI TO HAVE THESE PHOTOS PUBLISHED. His wife and children can NEVER do such a thing without his express approval, they know their husband and father and they know what is okay with him and what makes him mad. They can continue their friendship with their erstwhile benefactors (apart from the late Abacha appointing Buhari to head PTF, his widow, MARYAM, AFTER BUHARI BOWED TO PRESSURE AND REMOVED HER SON MOHAMMED AS THE GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE FOR KANO STATE FOR HIS PARTY AT THE TIME, CPC, HAD ALSO DISCLOSED/COMPLAINED IN AN INTERVIEW RECENTLY WHILST BUHARI WAS CAMPAIGNING FOR PRESIDENCY, THAT SHE/MARYAM WAS THE ONE WHO INTRODUCED HIM/BUHARI TO POLITICS), Buhari and his family can continue their friendship with the Abachas but to allow them access and OPENLY again into the seat of Nigeria’s power, to welcome them and with such evident highest favour, warmth and cordiality, and to FLAUNT it in the faces of Nigerians, is what is totally wicked and unacceptable.

      ABACHA’S LOOT & MOHAMMED’S DEAL (ThisDay newspaper, July 3, 2014)

“On the issue of Kudirat Abiola’s murder over which Mohammed was standing trial, Obasanjo explained to his audience the gravity of the situation: “There are two issues. One, the issue of Sergeant Rogers’ allegation against Mohammed; there is also an issue of SaniAbacha family, including all members of the family, with Mohammed Abacha at the center of it all. And that is the stashing away of this country’s money. Let me tell you what I have done, in case you don’t know. My predecessor, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, and in fairness to him, he recovered $600million and £120 million.

“When we came in, we looked at things again, and we discovered that there are much more. I asked my Vice President to invite Mrs. Abacha as a wife of former Head of State. I asked him not to take her to the office, but to his home but to let her know that these things she is holding must be dislodged. Then Mrs. Abacha phoned me, for the first time, she said she did not know I could be generous and could treat her that way. She said she had always feared me. But I told her that we hear that they have $2 billion. We went on and on and we discovered very close to $1.5billion.

“We hired lawyers and took them to five different places, Switzerland, Britain, Luxemburg, Spain and New Jersey (USA) for a long-drawn legal battle. We got through their lawyers to say we will settle out of court. So, we have a legal document. So, our lawyers and their lawyers agreed. The document made me to forgo $100 million. I know they don’t deserve it, with another $400 million in bond on face value. The agreement was signed and sealed, but when it got to the time of exchange, they reneged. If only for the interest of the nation, nobody should perpetrate this kind of blatant corruption.

“Governor, (looking in the direction of Kwakwanso) you are making a special request, and I am also making a request, because the money belongs to all of us and should be disgorged, we will not let up until every kobo is recovered. I hold no malice, ill-feeling, only for us to do what you can stand before God and man as just.”

With his sermon done, the former president now handed over to Kaloma Ali a document containing the agreement prepared by both the lawyers to the Abacha family and those of the Federal Government, saying “If he (Mohammed) signs he will be released to you and you can take him with you.”

But following Mohammed’s release, Mrs. Maryam Abacha decided to call Obasanjo’s bluff. In repudiating the agreement, she claimed that whatever was in the accounts of the Abachas belonged to the family: “Our lawyer came here with this piece of paper. It was not on any official letter-head; there was no coat of arms or anything like that yet they want us to surrender money.” Adding that the money in their accounts included that of her late eldest son, Ibrahim, Mrs Abacha said “Mohammed too was doing business so his money is there too. Now, they (federal government) say they want all the money”.

Mrs. Abacha vowed back then that they would not release a dime of whatever may be in their family till, money that has been established to belong to the government of Nigeria. And she has remained true to her words. That is where I have problem with the aspiration of Mohammed to be Governor of Kano State or to hold any public office for that matter, until the issue of the money belonging to the people of Nigeria–which is being held illegally by his family–is resolved.”

I can never forget all those black marias that will pick people up who were suspected of not saluting Abacha or who allegedly said something negative about him. People easily forget the atrocities of that evil regime, so many people killed without any kind of fear of God. I am not against the children because they were not the ones responsible ( but I remember one of his daughters had the office of the first daughter or something like that). I was tempted to say that the wives and daughters may not be involved but aren’t they spending the money? I remember Gumsu defending her father’s reputation by trying to state the good things that happened in his time as dictator ruling Nigeria. I don’t know why she can’t see that those things happened IN SPITE OF HER FATHER not because of him.

BellaNaija, it will never be a good time to reintroduce these people as everyday people. Yes, you publish weddings of those who have fed fat on Nigeria’s resources, but none have left a more bitter taste or detestable legacy in our minds than Abacha. Anyone that will say abacha was not wicked, brutal and dangerous , should please go and ask ken saro wiwa , Alfred rewane, or kudirat abiola children what they think about the man…because non of your parents were killed during those days , you can say he was not a dictator

Abacha belong to the history books where the names like mobutu seseko,( Zaira) , Idi Amin ( Uganda,). , adolf hitler of Germany, saddam Hussein of Iraq ,

So many of you on bellanaija are too young to know what we passed through, if you remember how kudirat was killed brutally along 7-up road in ikeja on broad day light, u will understand ….the truth is that the north have a ruling class , no matter how bad you are, when you are in that class, you are protected as far as you didn’t fight the strong northern leader

The north are too united , when I say the north I mean the fulanis , ( Kano, kaduna, sokoto, samara, katsina , ) they will always protect their own.

Have u guys forgotten buhari said abacha wasn’t corrupt, have u guys forgotten that abacha made buhari the chairman of Ptf, so why are we surprised that they are close family friends….

We voted buhari, because Jonathan let us down, in 2019 when there better candidates to choose from , I don’t think we will open our eyes to vote for him again

6 months have gone nothing meaningful is happening , please remember that the last 1 year of every administration is used for politicking and campaigns for the elections, so indirectly buhari has just 30 months to do what he has promised…we are waiting to see

I hope we don’t regret ever voting for him

@ Nnena GOd bless U.. Exactly what I have been saying. So all these yrs, Abacha’s FAM never surfaced but all of a sudden it’s PMB’s time & they r buddies again. Like for really??? I said it before n I will say it again when u try to run a Country for the 4th time, that’s not a Dream. That’s what I call #DESPERATION# & also during to tap into Nigerian’s oil money.. And of course his religion is playing part in every thing as well. Like u said, time will definitely TELL..

    Brutal..Despotic..Perverse…Dictatorial..Paranoid..bet there’s more!!
We were advised by our parents not to visit 9ja during his reign of terror for our own safety.
As someone said they always protect their own but shouldn’t make PMB a bad leader.
We all do protect our own but not to the extent they do…Babaginda and Abacha come to mind.
A very weak attempt at re-writing history.
This should have been taken this somewhere else not Aso Rock the bastion of our supposed Democracy.

BellaNaija, it will never be a good time to reintroduce any generation of the Abachas as everyday Nigerians. Yes, you publish weddings of those who have fed fat on Nigeria’s resources, but none of these people have left a more bitter taste or detestable legacy in our minds than Abacha. They were not responsible for their patriarch’s decisions, but they remain beneficiaries of it. Let them wear the scarlet A forever. Impunity must end.

When you see the Abachas post on IG, don’t regram…when you see on Twitter, don’t RT for us to see…do not make it into a post. It’s classless and distasteful of you and your decision makers, and it speaks poorly of your desires for this nation.

i erased all anticipation for something other than business as usual when i realized his inner circle included Rochas and amaechi and how he turned a blind eye to the consequences of his election being funded by salaries and benefits of poor rivers civil servants. anything other tthan business as usual will be the surprise of the century in nigeria. i give up. to those who were expectant for help from above, please tarry no more. make haste while the sun shines. try your hand here and there and see if something will work for you. abuja will not change policies that positively impact you in the next four years. By the time the ministers are assigned portfolios, it will be midyear next year -june. that leaves only 12 months for real work. in highly organized societies where getting stuff done is the order of the day, it takes about six months to examine the new parastatal, figure out a strategy to achieve goals given the status quo, then you start work. the earliest time work will start is about december 2016. then, you have one year to implement which brings us to december 2017. then the pre-campaign season starts in january 2018. this is when those in power start buying the favor of different constituents so the focus shifts to the people who can assure them of a win. so the people’s agenda takes a back seat. please my peeps, make haste while the sun shines. do not rely on chariots and horses or sons of men. your hope comes from above.

What is wrong with zahra hanging with gumsu did she steal or loot no it was her father so judge the father by his actions not the child by what thier father does

Rubbish!! They are reasons we say, ” the apple does not fall far from the tree” and ” one rotten apple spoils the barrel” image in this day and age equals a thousand words. The above pics are Buhari with abacha or Buhari = abacha. I wish they learn that they are guilty by association and consequently use media and images appropriately. If they want to socialize with abacha offspring let them do it privately because otherwise it smells FIShY

You are right there is notting the hell wrong in hanging out with them. All they did was enjoy the wealth their father worked hard for and defended him when people stupidly pointed out he was a corrupt devil. there is notting wrong in that. In fact we should vote them into power I am sure they would do better than their dad. You know Wat Ogbemituks TABA NSI.

Hmmmm. The only difference between Abacha and Buhari is that Abacha was more brutal otherwise, both of them are ex-HEADS OF STATE and DICTATORS who got to power through military coup.

On the current relationship, I guess Buhari is only paying back the Abachas for the “hand of fellowship” extended to Buhari during the “rainy days” of “joblessness” by making Buhari the Chairman of PTF through which Afriproject Consortium was engaged by Buhari as … er erm era… “CONSULTANT”‘ …. wink, wink, wink… An Hausa/Fulani man never forgets a favour or a wrong done to him.

Buhari should tell us who gave him money in 2011 and foot his bills, when he answers us dont vex for the abachas. they have fed him. As for these two women, it’s their husbands i feel sorry for lol, when I see dis our women dressed like this, looking like saints, OMG LMFAO I say subahanAllah. These ones the quaran call serpents.

We should not allow their father’s reputation dictate their future. In other words, give abacha’s children the benefit of the doubt until they prove otherwise.

Abache children have the benefit of their fathers stolen wealth. The honest truth is that they do not need your approval. Look at them do you think they are asking for your approval. They are unrepentant and untouchable, they KNOW IT . It’s unfortunate that you think they need your support. They’ve got Buhari that’s all that matters. That’s their seal of approval. They didn’t give NigeriaS the cutesy of an apology for what their dad did. Instead the daughter supported him and they smile defiantly at Nigerians. I am sorry but you need to raise above your doormat mentality. Nigeria will not be repaired if people do not learn that corruption foes not pay. And you are not being righteous by turning the other check. On the contrary you are supporting evil and allowing it to triumph. I want for there to be a tribunal were every atrocity comitted by the man is made official and exposed. every single kobo stolen to be returned and people compensated for their loss. Then people would be able to give them the benwfit of doubt as they would have served their time and prehaps not be able to afford dazzling proud smiles.
