Group of Queen’s College Students rally to “Free Olaseni Oshifala”

Published

 on

Dozens of Queen’s College students were spotted in the rain today in their uniforms, carrying placards in support of their teacher, Olaseni Oshifala who has been accused of molestation.

The teacher so far has denied the allegations of sexual harassment, which went viral over the weekend. An anonymous parent alleged assault and a cover-up by the all girls secondary school’s administration.

I have the feeling that these girls were put up to this by the administration! They’re trying to clean up their name…

So this man has been defiling students . . . and the students, who don’t seem intoxicated or under any spell, are proclaiming his innocence.
Yet, your only conclusion is that the students have been put up to it, not that there may be another side to this story

Take a breath and try and re-read the pungent spiel you wrote.

I am a QCOG class of ’99 and this is ABSURD!!!!!!!! This is clearly an orchestration of the school administration.

The QC I know, even if the girls organised on their own, IT IS THE TEACHERS AND SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION THAT WOULD HAVE SHOOED THEM BACK TO THEIR CLASSROOMS!!!!!

And the handwriting on all the placards is exactly the same and complete with misspellings….WHAT THE HELL!!!!!

“IF HE GOES THE A’S ARE GONE”…….ARE YOU FRIGGING KIDDING ME? I HAD AN A IN BIOLOGY THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND IT WAS NOT BECAUSE OF MR SENI!!!

INVESTIGATE NOW!!!!! DO NOT TRUST THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL!!!!! THIS IS SHADY AS HELL!!!!!

I AM SO ANGRY RIGHT NOW!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!

    • Mazi Okafor in Baltimore

      March 21, 2016 at 4:34 pm

Yes, it is definitely an orchestration of the school administration. That is the only explanation that makes sense. It can’t be that the allegations against Mr. Seni are false. It can’t possibly be that you may be wrong. The QC principal wrote the placards and ordered the Yaba Police to hold the girls’ parents at gunpoint in order to force them to protest. The Principal is shady because she doesn’t fit your narrow narrative.
      Fantastic logic.

Kudos, you are both Judge,Jury and Executioner

    • Tracy

      March 21, 2016 at 6:02 pm

Mr Okafor you don’t find it grossly inappropriate that the school administration allowed (let’s even say they were not coerced) these children to stand in the street, in their school uniforms, in the rain, when they should be in class to defend the innocence of an an adult, a grown man. Would you as a parent be happy to see your child engaging in such behavior? Would you consider it good use of your hard-earned money?! Would you not be horrified and appalled?

      March 22, 2016 at 9:27 am

Makes perfect sense to me but of course you demons with paedophilic tendencies and zero common sense wont see that.

Grown WOMEN are actually supporting him? If there is any proof that this man is guilty, here you go. I mean these people (probably teachers) are defending him OPENLY so how can you NOT believe the VP did the same privately??????
Sick individuals. The type of women who will blame girls for being raped because they wore short skirt. Ignorance is honestly a disease.

I also find it interesting how suddenly people are looking for “facts” to support their decisions but when it involved Ibinabo killing someone, you ignored facts and were making judgements based on feelings.

Nigerians, We have a long way to go….

Also, how have you conveniently missed the comments from ex students saying the SAME thing about this rotten man?
They must have all agreed to gang up against him of course. He must be innocent because he fits your narrow narrative. Fantastic logic!

I didn’t attend QC but I attended Timmy O, a tutorial where Mr. Seni taught. Amazing teacher but he had a reputation for ‘mistakenly’ touch the female boobs one time too often. He even had the nickname Seni boobs (if i remember correctly).
Whether it was of their own accord or it was orchestrated by the school administration, i think this matter shouldnt be swept under the carpet. There’s no smoke without fire and it would be sad if he is guilty yet is let go.
I didnt take biology at the tutorial lesson so I only watched/encountered him from a distance but clearly he was a favourite with the carefree female sex.
RALLY OR NO, Please investigate this matter!

I’m also a QCOG, and I share the same sentiments. This doesn’t look or sound right, at all. I hope the affected parent and daughter press on until justice takes its cause. These pictures are so sickening to view. This nonsense could not have occurred during Mama Sojinrin and Mama Euler-Ajayi’s tenures.

Must be hard to accept. it was hard to believe Bill Cosby had been drugging and sexually assaulting women for two decades.
i wish the mum could come out so they could be a proper case and an investigation launched.
obviously this man is two faced and we have heard from people who have seen both faces.
I spoke with some ex students who confirmed this man used to have girlfriends in the school and have attempted to rape several girls even while having affairs with co teachers in the school but somehow nothing seem to stick enough to raise an eyebrow with regards to the school girls

Women that weren’t witnesses are protesting for him, the way the principal that is protecting him is also a woman. The way people who slut shame and bash abuse victims are women, the way the people who insulted Toke Makinwa for her husband’s infidelity are women.
Well done ladies, protesting the innocence of something that occurred between two people alone.
Tomorrow we’ll go and fight for gender equality and expect men to take us seriously. No student from a prestigious institution anywhere in the world would would react like this. In Columbia university, some protested to protect a victim, here we’re protesting to protect a Biology teacher that wants people to “put finger inside doughnut”

As in, very obvious. What a school. Parents of primary school pupils who’re looking for schools for their children; this is one you MUST avoid at all costs. Clearly, they have no regard for the lives of their students.

  6. Mr. Egghead

    March 21, 2016 at 3:28 pm

Is this Stockholm syndrome and have the QC girls become so enamored with Mr. O to see him go? Somebody is clearing lying here: Mr. O or the anonymous parent or the large number of QC girls who seem sure of their teacher’s sexual reputation.

After tearing the man’s reputation to shreds on social media and blogs, the victims are now defending the alleged predator.

Lesson 31: Don’t jump into conclusions particularly in a sexual harassment case. Everybody is usually trigger-ready to assume the man is the villain. Maybe, just maybe, the anonymous parent brought up these accusations because the teacher refused to pass her daughter in Biology (yes, I am the devil’s advocate.)

    Let us continue watching.

You are brainless, and truly an egghead; I’m glad you know.
So the people both past and present QC students, tutorial students from Univeristy of Lagos, the Mother of the victim, etc are all making up stories? People like you irritate me, please shut the actual hell up. What image are they tarnishing? I’ve read way too many disturbing and horrific stories about this same guy, even from people who graduated decades ago; is he the only male teacher in the school? Why just him? Even people he taught tutorial lessons outside the school are all saying the exact same thing and you’re talking about tarnishing his image? Please don’t annoy me with your foolishness. It’s only an imbecile that’ll think a Mother will wake up one morning and decide to make up a sensitive story like this, especially in a society where we live in. The allegations are definitely true, way too many people cannot be wrong. People like you are just pathetic. Smh!

Sorry o but this is not the time or place or situation to play Devil’s Advocate. This is NIGERIA! Nobody ever comes out to say they have been sexually harassed or abused! NOBODY wants the shame and pain associated with it because WE SIMPLY DO NOT HAVE A SYSTEM IN PLACE AS A COUNTRY TO PROTECT THE VICTIM!!!!

Nigerian Men should take up their responsibility and EDUCATE themselves and younger men too that you don’t, can’t and shouldn’t go around leering, touching, or being crude with females in the first place! It’s not your right!!!

Shame on the accused and he should be punished!

The problem with women is not men – it is women. What the fuck is that? My problem is not with what they are doing but their mindset. You have to have some really fucked up mindset to carry a placard stating the nonsense their placards are saying. We have to do a better job as parents. We have to teach our daughters right. Not that my opinion counts but in my opinion, this school ought to be closed down ASAP. I am really disappointed by this display of stupidity. What is the minister of Education doing about this?

I wonder if anybody has thought deep about what the mother would gain if she is lying about this. Patapata e, she has kuku removed her daughter from the school but she cried out not for her daughter’s sake but for the other girls’ sake!

As a sexual abuse victim, believe me, nobody will want to come forward and lie about such a thing especially when you know your name will be out there! Except they are getting money, in which case, they are just mentally & spiritually sick!

Even QC students have said they’re not allowed to make protest of any kind during school hours or at anytime of the day, so they’re sure this was orchestrated by the administration. This was clearly staged! Very soon it’ll happen to someone very dear to you; then it’ll be easy for you to believe. Now I’m pissed and would really love it if an investigation is launched to look into this!
Who exactly are the girls protesting against? The girl who was allegedly assaulted? or her mother? or is it the general public? I really need to understand that!
Now would be a very good time for girls who have gone through this in the past to come forward and speak if this is true.
Is Mr. ‘share jealous’ Seni the only male teacher in the school? So why is he the only one who that “rumors” have always been peddled against? My Yoruba people will say “ti o ba ni idi, obinrin o ki n je kumolu” (a female can’t be named kumolu if there is no reason).

This was how people came out to defend Bill Cosby back then till the truth came out!
All the ex-students who claimed this man was inappropriate towards them should come out and speak, the girls who claimed they attended the lessons where he was being inappropriate should come and speak.

Things like this just piss me off, especially the way some Nigerians (the principal & co) can be lax about this. I remember complaining about my male cousin to my parents then and my father told me he had repented, my mother couldn’t say anything because hey! in-law! It was when i caught him peeping on my younger sister while she was bathing and reported to my mother, that she fought with my father and told him to choose between his wife & kids and his nephew that my dad sent the animal packing! Sadly, by then, the damage had been done on me!

No wonder girls find it difficult to talk about things like this. I just hope with everything in me that the mother had thought to record all the convos that happened with the principal, VP etc.

Investigations are currently being carried out by the QCOG association. Check out the above link for further details. There are so many discrepancies in the story. I attended a number of Mr Seni’s classes as a student and I can say he talks lewdly but he never raped anyone to my knowledge. Back then I know there were rumours that he had asked students out but I can’t verify them. I hope they get to the bottom of this

    • pott-passonthetorch

      March 22, 2016 at 1:27 am

Confusion abounds and comments like yours are IMO the main reason that we need a formal and thorough investigation, it’s all part of democracy. Not that I’m accusing you of anything. You say:
      1st, discrepancies in the story – exactly why investigation reqd;
2nd, former students of Mr Seni’s extra classes say he talks lewdly but he never raped anyone “to my knowledge” – but why do you expect to be in the know? Such secrets are aplenty especially in Naija culture!.
      3. A man “asking out” another adult in any culture is VERY different from a man propositioning a child (despite the physical looks and possibly attitude, these girls are still children). If found guilty, he should be made an example of to protect children of either gender. If innocent, we shouldn’t wait for oyibos to tell us how measures should be introduced with accountability and support for the future, it is happening even tonight; hopefully helping other students elsewhere who are suffering in silence.

      March 23, 2016 at 3:27 am

I’m a QCOG set 2013. And I must say, the social media spreads things like fire. My thoughts on this are; if the girl was supposedly raped or almost (wasn’t the news that he grabbed her and then let her go, when people came out?), okay then, almost raped, I do hope she gets out of the trauma and see what a wonderful life she has ahead of her…..also if Mr Seni, didn’t do any of the things he’s being socially prosecuted for, then i do hope the truth will set him free

My personal knowledge of Mr Seni
With the knowledge of the three years of my stay at Queens College, I can say that yes, Mr Seni can be a bit sexual in his statement, I don’t think he would rape or even do anything close to raping a girl. Mr Seni is a respectable and hardworking man , and I must say h’s one of the best teachers I had. But this does not and should not pull him off as a saint. I don’t know what might have happened to him over the past three years but from what I’ve heard he’s not changed.

I like to look at thing from the perspective of :”if it were my daughter or sister?”. As a student in psychology, I like to think of the some possible odds, for example, first, he might have been drunk and grabbed her on the hall,(but hey, the hall! That’s quite an open place to rape a girl, inst it. The girl confirmed this, she said student came out and started booing him: hmmm why would someone rape a girl n an open place), another possible explanation is that she walked out of him in the hall and he grabbed he rather too tight, there are so many imaginations as to what happened but only one explanation, and I can;t wait to find out what really happened.

Please guys , take it easy. Everyone has a right to an opinion .Don’t shut others down because their views are different from yours

Hmm..this protest smells of cover up. This case has to be taken to court immediately. It’s kinda strange that school children will organize this kinda protest sha when they haven’t protested for more demanding issues in the past. Someone must have put them up to this and that person MUST be named and shamed. I don’t want to jump into conclusions but if it happens that the principal who happens to be a female is protecting this guy, then she is a disgrace to womanhood.

It is such a shame that the school would want to cover up this irresponsible act rather than institute an urgent investigation. My daughter left that school in 2011 and the moment I mentioned there was a scandal concerning a Science teacher, she immediately said it must be Mr. Seni or whatever even before she saw his picture. Nigeria. has a long long way to go I swear. I will just sit back and watch how this progresses!

I’m A QCOG and immediately i heard about a science teacher molesting a student, i said it must be Mr Seni. and i know that QC would never allow students carry out such a shoddy act without disbanding them, i smell a rat, a very big smelly one. why is Seni being covered. I remember in my set he made suggestive statements in SS2 X or Y i think. i think he was taking them tutuorials in reproduction or something like that and gestured to zip down his trousers and show them the real deal. and he even carelessly insinuated that if any of the girls was bold, she should also show her. There was an uproar and he ended the class. He didnt expose himself but he made lewd statements. obviously he has gone beyond talk to practical.

Really is Mr Seni the only male teacher that rumors keep arising of him sexually harassing children. There are tweets from 2012 that have gone viral with QCOG making same sexual harassment claims about this teacher. Even the principal in her statement said every year abi is it every change in principal, new allegations arise. Kilode. Why are they protecting him?

From the statement he issued, his diction is horrible. I find it hard to believe that he is the reason for the A’s.

Lastly, the school clearly put the students up to this. No way students will be missing class just like that. Someone gave a pass for this to occur.

It is truly sad. As most have said, naija women are the cause of our own misfortune. Hopefully ministry of education or Lagos state govt, or whoever has highest authority over QC steps in and handles things better.

I find it curious that Mr Osifala’s colleagues are not protesting but they will rather use the students to do their dirty job, why use innocent children who are supposed to be protected by their principal and teachers to protest in the rain. Their parents sent them to school to be educated not to be engaged for a protest for a teacher. The principal ought to be sent on suspension because using the students for the protest is a clear breach of the trust the parents reposed in the school.

    March 21, 2016 at 4:40 pm

This story saddens me in a lot of ways one of which is because my sis is a QC alum and ive only heard fab things from her. I will start by saying since i was not there to witness it hence i cannot say i know the truth in its totality, but quite frankly being a young woman myself i am inclining towards the girl as i always do in situations of abuse. Now to my problem with this story, from my observations on social media i am not sure some women and most importantly the girls currently students in QC understand what the words “abuse” “harassment” and “molester” mean, and it worries me no end. A person does not need to touch you to be abusive, neither does he need to go all the way to have molested you, and as for harassment, looks, mannerisms and words constitue sexual harassment too! I have been seeing A LOT of Seni’s former students saying things like “he used to make lewd remarks but he’s not a molester” or “he has always been very crude in his speech but he will never go that far” or even “just because he was very friendly with his students does not mean he will do that” Are you freaking kidding me?! Why in God’s name should a teacher (in an all-girls’ school for that matter) be or do any of these in the 1st place?? If what these past students-turned-supporters are saying holds any truth, then i am afraid they’ve said it all without even knowing it. There is a very thin line with regard to these issues which is why it is very important to steer clear of such things to begin with. I am not saying it automatically means he is guilty, but such statements make him really suspect because it means he was cutting it close. It is also really worrisome that young women think there are forms of harassment that are okay or should be laughed off, NO! It could be that this girl has a higher threshold of understanding and found what other people deem ‘okay’ as offensive. Also, just because he made lewd remarks to one person does not mean he stopped at just lewd remarks with another (I’m just saying). In my opinion, there are issues with this guy that need to be addressed even if he did not go as far as molesting this girl. There is no smoke without fire ooo, the officials of the school would never admit such a thing for obvious reasons, but by saying you have investigated him time and time again and he came out clean is a bold-faced lie! Why then do the allegations keep cropping up??! I am very passionate about women’s issues as im sure i’ve made very clear lol, but seriously my fellow ladies PLEASE let us educate ourselves more, and know the boundaries so that we do not accept such behaviour on ANY sugar-coated level, harassment is harassment and abuse is abuse!

  26. EMBARRASEED QCOG!

    March 21, 2016 at 4:42 pm

First of all, as a QCOG ’08 set, I know there is no way these girls would have organised these protests by themselves, security men would have chased the hell out of them, This was clearly staged by the management. The Principal and the entire management team has to be fired because they are clearly biased and more interested in protecting an already tainted reputation than investigating the issue. There is need for an immediate overhaul of management!

Secondly, Seni was a well known pervert, for Christ sake, his nick name was ‘ashewo boy’ , that alone should tell you something. He use to use extremely vulgar and lewd language when teaching in class and was so inappropriate. He also used to stare at the breasts of some girls that were really mature then and say some really nasty things.I think there is something inherently flawed and perverted in the character of an adult who is comfortable speaking in such vulgar language with under 16’s.

Third while there was no reported case of him actually molesting girls while we were there, there were always rumors. In addition, since this matter was revealed, a lot of people in the 08 chat group have actually admitted to knowing people he has molested in the past, who are still afraid to even speak up.. In addition to this, a lot of people that attended his tutorial centers in Yaba and environs have also made allegations of him molesting them and even sleeping with them.

Fourth, the useless Principal also admitted that she also heard such rumours concerning him, upon resumption. How she concluded that he is innocent , only God knows.

Fourth, Oshifala is not the only male teacher in QC, we had quite a number of them there and somehow this allegations always seem to surround him alone. How and why???

As an old girl, I am incensed and enraged that an institution supposed to train the next generation of girls is shielding and protecting molesters!! Seni has to leave, It has been a long long long long time coming!!!!

This little girls carrying placards are at least years old AND could have stood against the management if it is true that this is a staged protest…the school cannot sha flog all of you or expel you all….the school management should be desperately ashamed of their-selves and if there are women among them …they are not fit to be called women. As a victim of sexual molestation….i would ALWAYS take the side of the molested….ALWAYS….BECAUSE I KNOW THE SHAME THAT COMES WITH IT…THEN FOR YOU TO SPEAK UP ABOUT IT..TAKES GRATE COURAGE.

This is so wrong on so many levels: the school principal should be fired.
1- they put the poor young girls in the RAIN to protest a teacher without first investigating and putting out an official school version on the matter. That is not only child abuse but also incompetence of the school administration.
The minister of education and minister of women’s affair both should weigh into this matter. QC is part of the federal schools if I recall correctly.
2- the person who wrote the placards needs to go back to schools to learn how to spell. This is QC, everything about this matter smells rotten. Why is this teacher so special and why is he being protected?

This is beyond shameful. When are we going to start protecting our children? It is clear that Queens’ College places more premium on defending this inappropriate teacher and child molester, and protecting its already tattered reputation than investigating the issue., we need independent child psychologists and school administrators to look into this ASAP!! These are young girls for God’s sake! What a crying shame. I almost feel like crying. All you need do is run a search on this SENI OSIFALA name and you see various shocking reviews about him especially on Twitter dating back to 2010. Facebook is filled with independent testimonies of his terrible activities. Now some of these same abused kids are being made to hold placards to exonerate him?

A male teacher who is obsessed/preoccupied with the female reproductive system screams pervert and molester.

We must not keep quiet. Evil prevails when good men do nothing. We need to stop silencing our kids and protecting their abusers.

I have seen the protest pictures and I am in terrible shock and tears!

This is the height of child abuse; violence against the girl child, using children inordinately, and worst still the girl child to perpetrate evil and violence; not to mention manipulate them against a fellow girl child.

How do you turn the mindset of Nigeria’s future into a game for your own manipulation and satisfaction‎? Is this not an assault on the minds of these young girls? And what then do you expect of them in the future if you manipulate their present to satisfy your wantonness?

How then can they effectively become the architects of Nigeria’s future whe‎n you who should help mold them tear down their walls today and leave their minds manipulated by the deceitful elements of today’s system?

This is a rape on the girl child and should not be allowed to unremedied! I appeal to Mothers and Fathers, Men, Women and Leaders of thought in this House to see to it that every single person responsible for this scandal is dealt the exact ounce of judicial blow.

I shall play my part in any form if called upon to do so‎.

    In my opinion:

    1. The School administration as presently is; except they can produce the promoters of this protest is totally complicit and as such should be probed and sacked.

    2. The Parents of the girls should sue the school for putting their children through this torture to carry out this sham of a protest just to cover up one teacher’s indiscretion.

    3. After sueing the school, I think they should interrogate their daughters to uncover the hands behind this sham of a protest and subsequently withdraw their daughters from the school. I do not think that in the history of the QC, it ever stood for this sort of menace to the girl child. I doubt that this is what the founders of the QC vision envisaged! I know and have been inspired by many QCOGs/Alumni and they would NEVER support this madness.

    4. The people behind this should be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.

After ALL is said and done; there should BE more DONE than said.

    Long Live the Girl Child!
    Long Live the Nigerian Woman!!
Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!

I’m no activist but just a girl next door and QCOG. So far all we have is anecdotal allegations with anecdotal investigation. We need a formal investigation and a transparent report; Naijas are delivering such in oyinbo countries, we can do it without further ado.
Specifically, it is well known that being subjected to groping, lewd talk and leering can have as much damaging effect on a child’s development and confidence in life as full blown rape. Also our slut-shaming culture keeps people quiet (we tend to blame the girl for what she wore, said, did and maybe even ate – smh). A slut is made not born. Most compromised children suffer for years in secret then problems manifest in many toxic ways. I was molested before puberty and didn’t tell a soul for about 20 years.. that was my first step to recovery. do you reckon the secret had no major effect and I just had to forget it?!
Men who condone sexual activity with children are no different from Boko Haram who force girls into “marriage”. I doubt the day will come when any adult will say that looking back, they are SO proud, glad and satisfied that they were made by adults to leave their games, toys and comics for genital and sexual activity, even that they want exactly the same for their own children. This is a sensitive issue and difficult enough to talk about in private talk less of under public scrutiny. If Mr Oshifalas is innocent then it will soon be revealed in formal testimonies at investigation.

So to the men (and women) auto-jumping to Oshifala’s defence here, hold your peace until you can say that both sides have been heard.

    • Igwe

      March 22, 2016 at 8:52 am

Your story in unnecessarily long. People supporting him are stupid and perveted like him. He’s clearly not innocent. Past and present QC students, people he taugh tutorials in University of Lagos and other educational centers all can’t be wrong. If anything, he’ll be proven guilty. Even as far back as 2013 on Twitter, ex students were talking about his peadophile ways on Twitter, go see them; it’s still there. The stories are rather disturbing. How will a teacher stare at students breasts and lock them in the room and try to touch them and the school authorities will do nothing about it after series of complaints? There are alleged reports of him dating and even sleeping and raping past & present QG girls. It’s good the story has been made public, organizations only do things and resolve issues when things like things go viral. To think that the so-called VP said if anything, the daughter will leave the school and the Parent shouldn’t forget it’s a public school. Smh, shame.

QCOG here, class of 2005. I cannot say if Mr. Seni is guilty or not in this case (though I won’t be surprised if he were), from my experience in QC he starred at boobs A LOT and used vulgar/unprofessional language quite frequently. If I recall clearly he would sometimes “help you” adjust the blouse button by the boobs. This one time during biology class, he went as far as narrating (in detail) how having sex with his girlfriend at the time cured him from malaria. Clearly, guilty or not in this particular case, this man has no business being around young girls.

But why is this common in female schools. there’s always one teacher if not sexually harrassing , he’s either sleeping with babes. I schooled in FGGC Abuloma and we had one of two male teachers that will teach you and be scooping your bra from your china white blouse or you are walking on a pavement between breaks, a lot of girls will be walking pass and then you see a teacher who should wait for ladies to move, trying to walk passed babes and intentionally or mistakenly bump into you, by tapping current either from your left or right boob. and these kind of male teachers or sexual harrassers” tend to be intellectuals, some will even start going personal and they’re usually the favourite ones.
I somewhat believe that he did it and there’s no way that students from a federal school will have the gutts to make placcards, let alone rally …except they were told to do so.( by the administration)

Please people, Let’s not pass too quick judgements based on old evidences. Let the victim and her mother (if they choose to remain anonymous) explain in details what happened, not everything is as it seems. If he is found guilty, he should be made an example to those other male molesters nationwide. If he is not found guilty which I doubt, the mother should apologize publicly to the teacher for defamation.
