Man in Court for Allegedly Stealing Neighbour’s Mattress
A 29-year-old man, Nnaemeka E. was on Tuesday arraigned in a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court, Aso Pada, for allegedly stealing his neighbour’s mattress.
Nnaemeka, who resides behind New Orange Market, Mararaba, is facing a charge of theft.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Adaji, said that one Idika U., who resides at the same address with the accused, reported the matter at the ‘A’ Divisional Headquarters Mararaba, on May 15th.
Adaji said that the accused criminally entered the complainant’s room, removed his mattress valued at N20,000 without his consent, and converted it to his personal use.
He said that when the complainant was looking for his mattress, the accused kept quiet about it but it was later found in his room.
The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge preferred against him.
The Presiding Judge, Albert Maga, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Maga said that the surety, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, must tender two recent passport photographs.
The judge adjourned hearing in the matter till May 26th.
