NICE, FRANCE – JULY 15: Dead body covered after the attack on the Promenade des Anglais on July 15, 2016 in Nice, France. An attack in Nice where a man rammed a truck into a crowd of people left 84 dead.

Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the truck attack on Nice, France that left 84 people dead and over 200 others injured, The UK Guardian reports.

The attack was carried out by Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, a 31-year-old Tunisian-born Frenchman.

“The person who carried out the operation in Nice, France, to run down people was a soldier of the Islamic State, who carried out the operation in response to calls to target states that are part of the coalition fighting Islamic State,” said Amaq, the press agency supporting ISIS.

Earlier today, a radio station linked to the terrorist group, Bayan, also stated that Lahouaiej-Bouhlel had employed a “new, special operation using a truck” to perpetrate the mass killing.

However, authorities say no evidence linked the truck driver to the terrorist group.
