One Dead, Scores Injured Following Hausa/Fulani Clash in Agege, Lagos
One person has been reportedly killed and several others injured following a bloody fight between Hausa and Fulani communities at the Abattoir, Oko-oba area of Agege, Lagos State.
THISDAY reports that the crisis erupted when a young Hausa girl was beaten up by a Fulani man, over a yet-to-ascertained matter.
The report added that the girl went back home to report the incident to the Hausa community in the area.
Angry Hausa youths rushed to the scene, and what started as an exchange of words, later turned into a bloody fight, leaving an Hausa man dead and several others injured.
The Lagos State Police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) confirmed the report on its Twitter page. It said:
“Efforts in progress to settle the dispute between feuding Hausa & Fulani youth at the Abattoir, Agege. 1 Hausa killed, scores sustained matchetes wounds as Hausa & Fulani youth engaged themselves in Abattoir, Agege.”
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos, Fatai Owoseni has called for a peace meeting between both parties to provide a lasting solution to the clash and prevent its recurrence.
