Sandra Bland: Family Settles for $1.9m Over Daughter’s Death While in Prison | WATCH
Sandra Bland‘s family has reached a $1.9 million settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit, CNN reports.
The settlement includes compensation for Bland’s death in custody as well as several changes to jail procedures in Waller County, Texas.
Bland was found dead in her jail cell in July 2015, three days after she was pulled over for a traffic offence.
Authorities ruled Bland’s death a suicide, but her family cast doubt, saying she would not have taken her life.
There were protests following Bland’s death. Protesters said she shouldn’t have been arrested in the first place, adding that the police were biased for arresting her after she failed to use a turn signal.
They also accused the police of excessive use of force against African-Americans
Bland’s mother, Geneva Reed-Veal, in this video, speaks about the $1.9 million settlement reached in a wrongful death suit against Waller County, Texas and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
