Science took her cells, her family reclaimed her story. HBO presents ‘The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks‘, a non-fictional movie based on a Rebecca Skloot‘s bestselling book.
Henrietta Lacks passed away in 1951 from cancer, and her story spread after Skloot’s book tracked the unauthorized use of Lacks’ cells to fuel unprecedented scientific discoveries.
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks stars Oprah Winfrey as Lacks’ daughter, Deborah, who knew little about her mother, and Rose Byrne as the author, Rebecca Skloot. Winfrey was also an executive producer on the film. According to Elle, the movie is out on HBO April 22, 2017.
