The Land of No Men: This Kenyan Village is ruled and inhabited by Women Only | WATCH
The people of Samburu village in Kenya have had a tradition of patriarchy for over 500 years. Broadly reports that a certain Rebecca Lolosoli founded Umoja as a safe haven for the women in the region.
“Umoja” means “Unity” in Swahili and is now a sort of matriarchal refuge for women who no longer want to suffer abuses like forced marriages and genital mutilation.
They have also indirectly empowered women in other districts surrounding Samburu to start their men-excluded villages.

@ Kilo Shelley gan gan wheat social issues? Last time I checked Nigeria was grappling with its fair share – Boko Haram, child marriage, ritual killings, Fulani herdsmen gone wild, abductions…in fact Kenya’s social issues pale in comparison to Naija. Kenya is a stable, extremely beautiful country and a lot of foreigners who move there chose to make Kenya their home. It’s hard to live there and not fall in love with it. You need to visit it sometime.
