Exercise Egwu Eke II, also known as Python Dance, is aimed at exercising the troops of 82 Division, to enhance their proficiency in internal security duties, General Sani Usman of the Nigerian Army has said.

He said this while speaking at an interview with NTA news on Wednesday.

Python Dance, which is currently taking place in South-Eastern Nigeria, has left residents of the region fearful, as it coincides with the agitation of a sovereign state of Biafra by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

But the army general has said that this is not the purpose for which the 82 Division is stationed in the region.

It is also to address to security challenges of kidnapping, armed robbery, that are associated with the ember-period in that particular region.

The bit does raise the question that: Are cases of kidnapping the responsibility of the army’s or the police?

Similar exercises have taken place within the North West and North Central parts of the country in April this year, the General added.
