Why I Sleep Under the Bridge – This Homeless Man shared his Story with BBC Africa & it is so Touching | Watch on BN

Video journalists Joshua Akinyemi and Mariam Kone of BBC Africa spent a day with a homeless man in Lagos and his story is so touching.

Under the bridges.
In doorways.
On street corners.

You don’t have to look too hard to see that homelessness is a big problem in Nigeria’s biggest city, Lagos.

Amnesty International suggests that more than 30,000 have been forcibly evicted from settlements, and a further 300,000 are under threat. Many flee to Lagos after being displaced by Boko Haram in the north-east of the country.

We spent a day with Godwin who came to Lagos to look for a better life, but found himself sleeping under a flyover in the city.

If only Christians were actually christians…we wouldn’t feel good having some of us living in opulence and others in absolute lack…he goes to a church and nobody there knows he’s going through this? This is sad, really. The amount of hope he has actually gives me hope…

Yes quickly lay the blame at the feet of Christians and the church. You never heard of the lady in parkview in Ikoyi Lagos who was murdered by the homeless church member she accommodated and employed? Several churches have shelters for the homeless but all the churches combined cannot carry such a huge burden that is the responsibility of the governments in other countries where leadership is not about how much you can steal! Thank you.
