Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde wishes an African Movie was Nominated for the Oscars | BellaNaijaThe Oscars released the list of nominees on Tuesday, with “Black Panther” becoming the first comic book movie to be nominated for Best Picture, and Lady Gaga nominated for Best Actress.

Newly inducted Academy member Omotola JaladeEkeinde is glad most of the movies she nominated made the final list, but she’s not happy about one thing.

Writing on her Instagram, Omotola shared that she’s not very excited any African movie made the list.

It’s fine though, someday soon, she said, they’ll be doing it for Africans.

Well, Africans need to start thinking outside the box. Enough of the marriage movies abeg, can someone try making a movie about Oduduwa please?!

What African movie though? Lionheart was so overrated but will give Genny some kudos for effort. There are so many story lines to do different from the typical.
The TV series, “The Governor” is amazing. Great acting, production and storyline.

Mo Abudu has the funds and connections to make blockbuster movies, but she will rather invest in shitty films that do not put Nigeria on the right part of the map.

I sincerely liked lionheart, and being a nigeiran resident abroad, I totally appreciate the angle taken by Genevieve for the movie. I guess a lot of people back in Nigeria don’t appreciate, but its’s really a good and well put together film.

    Oscars! Maybe one day!

Omotola’s alter ego was fantastic. It had loads of suspence. I don’t understand the fuss about Genny’s lion heart though except the picture quality but I’ll go for omotola’s over any other for now

We must not let this Black American mentality of forcing others to include us infiltrate our thinking. They do not owe us any recognition. Lets recognize ourselves first.

@BC Thank you! Like why do we need the Oscars? Why don’t we create our own prestigious awards where others would long to attend? But before all that, how about we start making better movies that are worth the recognition in the first place?

Thank you BC. I don’t get the constant inferiority complex of Africans. Why do you need the western world to celebrate you before you feel you have achieved something. You can be inspired by their picture quality..but learn to celebrate yourselves. Sigh.
