Political parties and their candidates can now continue to campaign until midnight, Thursday 21st of February, INEC has said.

The decision to issue go-ahead to political parties to continue campaign activities came few days after the postponement of the elections last weekend.

A statement signed by INEC’s national commissioner and chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye on Monday confirmed the new date.

“After consultations with political parties, the commission has approved that campaigns by parties and candidates can resume forthwith to end by midnight of Thursday, 21st February 2019,” Festus Okoye said in the statement.

Okoye also said media houses can accept campaign materials until the same date.

“Media houses are at liberty to accept, publish, broadcast and circulate campaign materials up till midnight of Thursday. Political parties and their candidates are enjoined to abide by extant laws governing campaigns.”
