This Minister says President Buhari has “resolved to curb medical tourism”

In 2017, President Muhammadu Buhari spent over 100 days in what was described as a “medical vacation” in London. Since then, he’s made other private visits to the UK (where he currently is).

On Tuesday, in a report by The Cable, the Minister of State for Health, Adeleke Mamora, has said that the president has “resolved to curb medical tourism.”

According to The Cable, the minister has said that the poor attitude of health workers and the hospital environment are the reason why people opt for medical tourism. He said:

President Mohammadu Buhari has resolved to curb medical tourism by supporting initiatives from individuals and groups.

We are focused on improving working conditions in the hospitals because medical tourism is not necessarily an outcome of lack of medical equipment. It encompasses factors like lack of conducive hospital environment and poor attitude of health workers towards health care delivery.
