The 1st Edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) has come and gone.
It was an exciting show and its seemed as though the theme was FUSION.
Acts from different musical genres and backgrounds came together to light up the stage. The craziest collaboration was between South African rockers Cassette, Kenyan hip-hop king Jua Cali and Nigerian stars Naeto C & Ikechukwu.

na so naija is becoming the best in Africa, watch out for Africans acts. P square, 9ice netro c, and D banj you guys are making Nigerians proud round the world… Just keep it up.
much of love
What went wrong with mtv, most of the awards to me was nonsense. definitely Asa should have got somthing and how did 9ice win best hiphop and how did dbanj get 2 cool awards and how come psquare got only i award. It is ridiculous. and who is WAHU?.
wahu is a well-known talented kenyan artist..shes one of the best african female musicians out there..u should listen 2 her music
I believe mtv knows watsup. it’ll really suck if mtv gets involved in the whole african music politics especially dat of Nigeria. dat said, whats d deal wiv dbanj n his koko. i really hope all d fuss is not for nothing cus rumor has it dat it is. But i really dont wanna find out
plssss,9ice-best hip-pop??? hellooooo,do they know what hip pop means? i mean i’m a fan of 9ice but then again 9ice goes around singing yoruba songs…so how wld that be categorized as hip pop….nigerians wld never change..lol
i am sure mtv knows wat is best video. as far as nigeria is concern the pioneer and so far the best video is p2 without any sentiment or pretence. look, am a nigerian and from ak state to tell you that am not even related to them.watch-do me, and temptation tou will understand what is best video in africa mtv ok?.
Asa should definetely have won something! That gal is good.
it was a great show though there were many disappointments from some of thenominations made, i think Asa deserves an award cos she was a wonderful performer/entertainer wherever whenever, though i could not comment much cos i dont know the criterial applied during the selection, i wish all the nominees /winners the best, mtv keep it up, one love.
Asa rocks, she is incredibly talented. Her voice and style is so amazing, just watched her for the first time and boy, i was blown-away. Asa, you my girl yo! Good luck to ya’ll and can’t wait to see ya’ll next season.
While I congratulate the winners, I also wish Asa had won something. But then I remember that most people in Nigeria don’t like or appreciate Asa’s music. It’s people abroad that love and listen to her style. I overheard someone say that Asa’s music is depressing. See? People prefer “lively” stuff like P-Square, 9ice and the others.
