Bella thanks for the post. Keep up the Great work.
Do you know when the award show would air on MTV2?
Seether won best alternative.
Toni, it will air on the 29th on local Afican stations and on some international stations as well. Don’t actually know the stations or times yet.
theres a lil error
9ice is not hiphop
femi, can u tell me what 9ice music is then?
bella, i would just like to say thank you! your site is absolutely gorgeous,i just found your site about 2 weeks ago, i am not in the country and anytime i want to get info about my wonderful country i come to your site, you are always up to date about everything and most especially the fashion scene in Nigeria, God bless you and thanks once again.
dont know what 9ice is but he is definitely not hip hop
after reading naijablog, i only hope that next year will be better…
does anyone know what duet kelly rowland sang with d’banj?
Great pictures Bella!
Bella, where is our monthly cover fix??? Heard you were on the cover of TRUE LOVE….hurry up and put up a post…sharply….lol.lol.
Adaobi, thanks for the info.
Nicely stated, bella.keep bringing contents to our faces O!.Nicely stated! Qubestreet was here!
i just need to know am pretty sure this is not a comment but i need to know is 9ice a hip pop artist
9ice tell me wat category are u definatly not hip pop i love ur music but wat goin on u ar not hip pop
we all need to know if 9ice is a hip-hop artist, coz im confused as well…they did not even put ikechukwu, 9ice? … MTV has clearly lost the plot
Afropop, maybe?
Everyone deserved it..Just wish Asa won too..
YEA ..i go wiv dat …afropop…its more pop, but since its naija ..we say afropop..lol
nice is not hiphop oo abeg
y is everybody crying about 9ice not being hip hop. please tell me what he is then. all these artists have songs that can be categorized as afro hip hip
Ikechukwu is one HOTT dude!! 9ice Hip-hop? did they mis-classify? hmmm all the same kudos to him and all the many many Naija reps
why sentiment again in african award?see no reason why asa should not go home with a award.natural female artist like her deserves one …
I dont get…why were there American artist nominating and winning? i thought it was a purely african thing…and if not how the heck did 9ice win over lil wayne??!….somethings not right….and 9ice hip-hop? hmmm don’t know about that either. I love him but he needs a better category, who are the organizers sef?
*nominated

Africans won (in their own category- 2face, Dbanj and Freshly ground) at the MTV European awards so nominating foreigners at the MTV African awards is justified!
9ice deserved an award but Hip Hop? That means Ikechukwu sings jazz-blues , Naeto C is a country singer and Asa is a rapper even though they deserve awards it shouldn’t be the wrong category.
I blame the nominators and voters!
Congrats 9ice!
will this be aired in the U.S?
i think all the winners deserved their awards.
although i wish Asa went home with one. Anyways all in all Nigerians dominated the awards and its good for the Nigerian Music industry.
everyone deserves to win…2FACE,ASA,both rock even without a trophy….
i understand d inclusion of some american artist, and if u notic d american artist nominated are blacks, which means most of them ar from
africa.
we know all blacks originated from Africa, but this award is meant to be from Africans not African Americans
it is good for them, but UNFAIR to others
What an amazing night! Did anyone see the girls with Cecil Hammond from silverbird? Who was that Flo Adefope girl in the blue top? We predict a stellar career for her – go gorgeous! Show them how we do it in Africa!
I second that
The beautiful Flo (Full name Funlola) Adefope keeps a very low profile. She is a talented UK based artist who graphic designs, scultps and Paints. Some lucky Fashion designers have also convinced her to model on occasion. I agree watch this space!
Gossip mills have it that love may be blossoming between her and a recently single catwalk the world P.R Megaman…
i really luv the style my country stars display ex. Dbanj,p-square,ikechukwu,naeto,9ice,and the rest of them.i do like to say congratulation.
Of course 9ice is hip-hop! Americans were nominated because Africans listen to their songs! Don’t you have “no one” and “lollipop” on your ipods and laptops? Nominations are based on how popular a song or an artist is on a continent! That’s why American are nominated at the European music awards and vice versa.
Aired in the U.s? It should be!
It’ll be on MTV Base agin too!
L
LOVE JAY JAY HAPPY HE SHOWED UP
Yay!! so happy for Naeto he so deserved that. This has been an amazing year for him..wish him all the best! As for 9ice not being hip hop big deal really. I do not classify Rihanna as an RnB singer but she gets nominated in that category or Beyonce as pop but hey she gets nominated in that catergory as well. It doesnt matter as long as he got recognised for him work thats all that matters to me. Yay for Ikechukwu as well..thank God P-square won something b4 they throw a tantrum lol.
Does anyone know when they wld show this in the UK??
*his* work..:-)
Lekwa, obele nwa Naeto! So proud that he pursued his goals and is living his dreams… ikechukwu if only you were taller, I for don chase you back in the days. Was dbanj humping the statue? nyama! he needs to stop being so razz. Congratulations to 9ice as well. I’m glad the naija music scene is getting recognition… if only there was some additional creativity and appropriate resources to foster this art.
no comment on the random nominees from across the seas.
i am happy for the artiste that won the MAMA’s.they all deserve it and i will also like to shout out to 2face and Asa that they’re the best even without the MAMA’s.
That’s the way it works with MTV – check out the nominees at the MTV Europe Awards and you’ll see many American names.
it so nice to have my naija brodas take it all, nice 9nice,entertaining D’banj, squared peter n paul, legendary baba, wine wine ikechukwu, bigdeal naeto-c,kip doing it,i luv you all!!
Congrats to all the winners.
Y’all deserve the WIN.
Bella, chica, i saw ur current pics..
pls don’t ask me where, ’cause baby girl
i a’int telling..lol. And u are beautiful. U
remind me of Deborah Cox and u still look
better than her. I am so loving ur outfits, you
know..the fuchsia colour and ………….. ok. am
not giving out any clues, no more…LOL
wow!wow!wow!it’s great to know 9ja can still represent…..well
at Debs and otherss justifying the foreign artists’ nominations…do y’all see foreigns artists/actors win major categories at the grammys/oscars?? no matter how popular? It made no sense to me that they threw those foreign artists in there. I felt like it deprived other deserving artists of what they deserved. U really think 9ice fairly won best hip-hop act alongside lil’wayne?! common! lil’wayne is the hottest here in the states even (and no i’m not a fan, just stating facts), so if its based on popularity contest, 9ice shouldnt have won. They should kept it strictly home-ly, and let these yung pple get their shine at last! After all the millions of grammy alicia won, i dont think she’ll loose sleep is she wasnt nominated for MAMA’s….the same way other equally popular artists such as beyonce and rhianna weren’t.
Other than that, the show looks very solid and the award IMHO looks better than the moon man.

nice event,
u got d pics right bellanaija.com
i concur
Nice pics bella first time seeing them!!! Just finished reading true love and had to check the site out.Thumbs up bella.
am so sad Asa didnt get an award well for me she would always be a winner and Nice for ”Best hip-pop” doesnt quite sound rite dont get me wrong i like him but dont think he actually tops hip-pop even in niaja.
Well congrats to all of them and tanx for representing!!!!!!!
I think the foreign acts shud not have been nomitated in the MAMAs, but i guess nig will always be nig….am happy with d winners tho, nigerian artists tried.
Meanwhile bella i saw ur picture, wow u look so pretty….y have u been hiding? am glad we can finally put a name to d face….keep doing wat u do…i want to be like u wen i grow up…lol
WOW! Bella is that you on Linda Ikeji’s blog http://lindaikeji.blogspot.com/ – you’re one stunning chic. Are you from the Igbo tribe? Anyhoo – keep reppin ….love ur blog x
Congrats to all the naija artistes

Geeeeeeeeeeezz! never thought africa and esp.Kenya cud vote in such large numbers Wahu deserved 2 win cudos girl!!! tunakupenda wo….wo……
It’s so sad that i’ve never heard of songs by some of these artistes yet they’ve won.BELLA grant ma wish pliz! these artistes need more than a golden microphone plus am not happy wit only american artistes being nominated 4 best R n’ B.Aa..aa.Loyiso….or any other african artiste shd hav won!
pics look great,so sad that i had to miss it,so sad
south africa shud hv won more awards…ofcoz some africans hate us bcoz we’re da best…mxim!!!
South Africa…the bomb in african hip-hop & house music…hands down….hola!!!
y where dere more foriegners in the rnb category, we hv banky here, even dare and wande coal..
Great great pictures. I wish Asa won something and I’m liking 9ice’s songs a lot more with time. Ikechukwu is really goodlooking. So what did the koko master and kelly sing??? Seems to have been a solid event.
BTW Bella you are quite a pretty cookie:) Worth the wait and all the annonymity. Very soon we’ll see you presenting awards to these shows (a little prayer for ya).
No doubt, P Square is the most popular Nigerian act, outside the shores of Nigeria they receive the largest audience, their record sales more and they are complete-great creativity, choreography, stunning videos. One wonders why it dosent translate to awards. I think some artistes mobilize a lot of voters and they win even if they do not deserve it, or should I say, its a matter of connections? No doubt P Square should have picked the Artiste of the year and Best live performance too. D banj is a great artiste but as of 2008, he had little to show. Even his Entertainer album came out late, the song played in the nominations ”close to you” was even done by Mo Hits group and not D banj. The S/African group Jovi are good, but to me they are miles away from the twins, or could it be because their music is more afrocentric? Maybe ”Do Me” would have gotten the best video but ”wind am well ” is tech and deserves it as compared to the versatile and interesting ”Roll it” which had problems in the digital resolution.I see P Square going places, they should not be detered, they may as well try some politicking like some others, but what matters most is stepping up their game.
well wat can i say, the actual ceremony was very cool. for the 1st time we actually got to see the crowd participate….my boy t.nelson did his thing…the jay jay okocha footbal was one of my highlights.. i am an offcial asa beliver now..she is a born performer. another highlight was the hhp collabo, p-square and jozi (nice one)
i know majority of this things are politics but i beleive tat p-square could have gone hom wit the best video award not ike(but u still love u men) and asa walking home wit nothing…tragic….
all in all, i cant wait for the next one mtv
truth be told, i was disappointed at some of the choices. i’m nigerian but freshly ground deserved best video not ikechukwu whose video cant even boast of being in the best ten here in naija. 9ice winning best hiphop? plz …we need to define what hiphop really is. asa should have gotten something, she was excellent. in all, mtv needs to stay clear of all the politics here in africa or they might just loose their credibilty.
While I congratulate the winners, I also wish Asa had won something. But then I remember that most people in Nigeria don’t like or appreciate Asa’s music. It’s people abroad that love and listen to her style. I overheard someone say that Asa’s music is depressing. See? People prefer “lively” stuff like P-Square, 9ice and the others.

it was a great show though there were many disappointments from some of thenominations made, i think Asa deserves an award cos she was a wonderful performer/entertainer wherever whenever, though i could not comment much cos i dont know the criterial applied during the selection, i wish all the nominees /winners the best, mtv keep it up, one love.
Asa should definetely have won something! That gal is good.
joker….
i am sure mtv knows wat is best video. as far as nigeria is concern the pioneer and so far the best video is p2 without any sentiment or pretence. look, am a nigerian and from ak state to tell you that am not even related to them.watch-do me, and temptation tou will understand what is best video in africa mtv ok?.
plssss,9ice-best hip-pop??? hellooooo,do they know what hip pop means? i mean i’m a fan of 9ice but then again 9ice goes around singing yoruba songs…so how wld that be categorized as hip pop….nigerians wld never change..lol
I believe mtv knows watsup. it’ll really suck if mtv gets involved in the whole african music politics especially dat of Nigeria. dat said, whats d deal wiv dbanj n his koko. i really hope all d fuss is not for nothing cus rumor has it dat it is. But i really dont wanna find out
Asa rocks, she is incredibly talented. Her voice and style is so amazing, just watched her for the first time and boy, i was blown-away. Asa, you my girl yo! Good luck to ya’ll and can’t wait to see ya’ll next season.
What went wrong with mtv, most of the awards to me was nonsense. definitely Asa should have got somthing and how did 9ice win best hiphop and how did dbanj get 2 cool awards and how come psquare got only i award. It is ridiculous. and who is WAHU?.
na so naija is becoming the best in Africa, watch out for Africans acts. P square, 9ice netro c, and D banj you guys are making Nigerians proud round the world… Just keep it up.
much of love
wahu is a well-known talented kenyan artist..shes one of the best african female musicians out there..u should listen 2 her music
