After the party, the giving continues. Helen Prest-Ajayi fulfills her birthday promise
Posted on Sunday, December 6th, 2009 at 11:40 AMBy BellaNaija.com
A few weeks ago, we featured the 50th birthday party of Miss Nigeria 1979 – Helen Prest-Ajayi. It was a glamorous and fabulous affair with celebrities and socialites dressed to the nines.
Its fun to see these fab images and chat about ‘who wore what’. However, its really great to see the other side of things. On the continent that we live in, there are so many that are in need and as much as we enjoy our lives and celebrate our successes, it is truly great when we look beyond ourselves.
Helen Prest-Ajayi did just that! An auction was held during her birthday soiree – The donors/auction winners were Hollywood actor Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje and Olorogun Oskar Ibru and a total sum of N1.6m was raised for The Children Development Centre; a facility headed by Dr Yinka Akindayomi that helps develop physically and mentally challenged children and young adults’ to participate effectively in society.

We like this. Uhhhh-hun!
This is so thoughtful of her.
yeah, yeah, I knw this is super vain in the context of this story but is she wearing Louboutins?? oh, the lady is style personified!!
thats the first thing I noticed. Great, wonderful, generous, cause but the Loubos? and why was it publicized/ ‘photo-shooted’? Oh well, she’s a celeb i guess.
this made me think…hmmmn!!we should all try to help the less priviledged ones..it shouldnt all be about the fashion shows, glam and what not!hmmn!!
absolutely wonderful, God bless you Helen
Well she’s not the one who donated all the money, so it has to be a public affair so that her fundaraising be more credible. Plus, I personnally find it more insulting when people dress down just because they’re doing charity stuff it’s like “hey, I look like you now!”, but I do agree that the Loubos na too much
lol i know i noticed d loubouitons as well but i just thot oohh richayyyyy…. good cause she sshuld hav be n more casual tho,…
great stuff and great looking woman. I hope i look that good when i am her age. With regards to the loubs, i think she dressed according to her pocket. But for all you eagle eyed ‘fashionista’s', i would not know what make of shoes those were. She looked like a well dressed woman. I don’t care if her shoees cost the world, i just care that she cares enough to raise funds for the less priviledged. Such noble act in this world of selfish pretentious, ‘louboutins’ watching people.
May I ask y’all just “SEE” a pair of shoes and “KNOW” the brand?????…..
lol! I was thinkin the same thing lyk how do they know those are louboutins just by looking?? maybe they have them… emphasis on maybe tehehe (I’m joking o!)
lol..u can spot loubus by the signature red soles..look at the second picture again
awwww.that was so thoughtful of her, we ought to have more ppl like her in the country and all over. however, there is no big deal with LOUBOTINS(dunno why pple are proper talkn about it…its just a pair of shoe)…
SOMEONE WHO DONATES A MILLION PLUS …..SHOULD BE ABLE HAVE A PAIR OF LOUBOUTINS LOL…. …SHE CAN AFFORD IT LMFAO
So its only Loubous that have red soles abi??…. very funny…
Loubous are the only shoes supposed to have red soles… If not, thats just fake/ knock-off/ isn’t it trademarked??? (non-loubou red soles are like arrestable for fakeness)!
Other brands have tried pink soles, off-reds but I can’t but such and deceive people. Nigerians will wickedly expose me so stick to red soles that MUST be Loubous.
Maybe Ninewest would have been less conspicuous. but it doesn’t matter she did good either way.
I am positive the photographer’s aim was to capture the moment not the authenticity of her red soled loubou shoes…na wa for you people oh! someone cannot do a good deed in peace??
Helen has made it stylish for Nigerian women to acknowledge their ages once again. The way peeps be lying these days is just unbelieveable. Bella stop deleting my messages
lmao..why are u all vexing na??..haha..they asked how the others knew they are PROBABLY(ie i dunno if they are i just dey answer question) loubous and I answered..Chill!! its really not that serious!
is this about the kids or the shoes?- dont get carried away guys
At least its good that after that very silly obnoxious article in Thisday Style bout finding the perfect dress for her birthday dinner, she had th heart to d this.
Great job Helen.
leave the shoes people…how much are loubos sef!?
How much? Abeg come dash m money.. they r expensive.. depending on the pocket size. Since urs seems to b overflowing dash m some
Louboutins’ prices are on request.. here in the mall of the emirates, dubai:)
chei, naija mentality don reach here again, you people should leave helen alone. if you did not mention the fact that the shoes were louboutins, most people reading this article won’t have known. and when did it become a crime to enjoy ur money? nawa for bad belle naija people. i have a nice 6-inch shoe with a red sole and it’s notin anyway louboutin, it cost a mere £60 from a high street store, so a red-soled shoe is not automatically louboutin! she deserves a commendation for choosing to raise funds for the underprivileged, so if she decides to wear a pair of snickers or 12 inches heel while doing it’s her business, let’s focus on the subject matter here, which is the CDC and the donation and not on what helen wore or did not wear.
lol read the article Addy the money didnt come from Helens pocket..
Louboutin pronounced louboutan cos it’s french cost 1000$..So it’s no biggie!
IMHO, I think this gesture is nothing compared to all the trouble she went through while shopping for the perfect birthday dress……1st class tickets to london in the morning and monaco in the afternoon, tea at harrods, and all the vain blah things she wrote in the Thisday column of hers. She could do better than 1.6million abeg!
na wa 4 people o! wat’s wit the shoes & her clothes. Can’t we just focus on the fact that she’s done something this wonderful & worthy of emulation. Why do we just love 2 hate so! let’s not sweat the small and very unimportant stuff please. She’s beautiful inside & outside.
is this about the kids or the shoes?- dont get carried away guys
bintu? so she is supposed to give half of her wealth or half of what she spends on herself to be counted as giving to the unprivileged? human beings! i tire for you o. does it matter how much was donated? how about the fact that she actually thought of donating and did so? a lot of us give at one point or the other a token to beggars back home in nigeria, either 20 naira or even 10 naira or more, and i bet that the money given was not up to a 100th of our financial worth. so answer this question; do u have to give half or more than half of your wealth before you can be said to have given to the society?
Hater’s stop hating so that you can move forward in life. Here is a woman who used money from her pocket to buy items to auction at her party so the proceeds can be given to charity but the bad belle people must complain. what have you ever done for charity, ahn ahn what is it now, is it that she flies first class, or that she’s too beautiful or she’s too generous, why the venom. The bottom line is you’re just jealous, some people just cant stand others having fun. Please get a life jare!
bukky you should be smart enough to know that the money raised was from items donated by Helen for auction. Kudos to her for having the idea in the first place, what ideas have you come up with lately to raise funds for charity, please let us know so we can benefit!
Please tell me if its a crime to dress well and do charitable work? Must people look raggedy to help the less priviledged, i really want to know o.
bintu abeg stop hating so that you can move forward in life. @Oluwaseun……If you read the Thisday article she wrote you would know what I’m talking about.I’m not saying she should give away half of what she’s worth.People have given out much more than that and they don’t have their pics on bella naija’s website.I still say she could do better than 1.6million.
@Kiki……..no words for you my dear.
I totally understand Bintu point. How do know Bintu doesn’t even donate more? Try and understand the point she’s trying to make.
haba bintu, whats exactly is vexing you now, i’ve read the article, it was a fun, lighthearted piece, infact it even made me laugh, its too bad you couldnt see that, and its really bad that you think she could do better than 1.6m, charity is voluntary, its not imposed on anybody, its people like you that make it so hard for good people to help because of all the criticism that you pour on them probably out of envy. so what exactly is your problem, please keep your negative thoughts to yourself and let Helen be celebrated like the icon that she is.
@Chloe……..Can you please drop it?Your comment makes you sound like a sycophant.Enough of this helen this, helen that ……..like bintu said, people have donated more than that and no one even gets to hear.
Thank u much!!!… its just plain silly!!…they went on & on about oooohhhhhh lauboutins….dis …lauboutins dat….den went ahead to stupidly show their ignorance. Who says ONLY louboutins have red undersoles??….btw 60pounds no be mere oooo my sista, dat na serious friday chilling money…..lmao
OLuwaseun so you give beggars 10 naira and 20 naira? You never see better beggar wey go throway the money back for ya face!
Kiki
i wish i knew you one on one so yu would know what or not i have done for charity, but the thing is i dont have to be very public about it….not that there is anything wrong being public bout it, afterall it encourages people to give.
on the Thisday article which by the way was the subject of my post and not her giving to charity…..yes it was a very silly obnoxious article and most people knw that….the shallow ones( for lack of a better word) think nothing of it and by your rant i think we know where you belong.
And how do you know she bought the items for the auction, and they were not dntaed for the purpose.
It is because of people like you that people have to publicize the fact that they’ve actually handed over the money raised to the charity so that people wont say they’ve pocketed the money and as for being shallow, if shallow means being happy for people when they’re celebrating and seeing the funny side of that article then i’m happy to be shallow and not envious of the success of other people enjoying the fruit of their success. If one cant travel the world at 50, please tell me the right age, haba abi na 70 or wen u don go grave? Bottom line is stop hating cos it’ll really make this world a better place and your life too, Miss Annonymous Giver!!!
andre stop hating ok, in a million years i know you’d never give such. even if you had it.
Off course your shallow especially from your comments toBintu and i . Should have simply ignored you like she did and thats what i’ll do!
Na wa..but then aggressiveness…
i didnt make that comment to diss her…i just thought the money didnt come from her pocket. The article said something about donors and auctions and did not mention if the auction articles were actually hers.
If you read a comment i posted below, i commended her for her efforts and i said i wish more of us were motivated to help the needy. Whether or not the auction articles were hers does not in anyway determine my smartness, so stop getting your knickers in a knot and stop chopping panadol for someone else’s headache.
ok, i thinks it’s about time we displayed respect for each other on bella naija. nigerians please let’s learn to express our views or respond to other people’s views without insulting each other.
