The ARISE Magazine Fashion Week 2011 kicks off tomorrow, Thursday 10th March 2011.

ARISE Magazine, Africa’s first global style and culture magazine, has released the updated schedule for the ARISE Magazine Fashion Week 2011 which will take place in the tents at the luxury Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos, from Thursday 10th March to Sunday 13th March 2011.
The much-anticipated line-up of 50 international fashion designers will showcase their latest designs over three days. The designers selected to participate are:

The four-day event is already attracting international television attention because of the biggest line-up of international designers the continent has ever seen. In addition to this, ARISE Magazine Fashion Week have also announced that each of the day’s event will close with a star-studded closing musical act. The artistes confirmed include Naeto C, Darey Art-Alade, Grammy Award-winning singer Estelle and to close the ARISE Magazine Fashion Week Awards on Sunday 13 March 2011, will be Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu – better known as the two-time BRIT Award-winning artist: Tinie Tempah.
It will be a fitting end to the traditional fashion season after Paris Fashion Week and complete the international global fashion week season.
ARISE Magazine founder Nduka Obaigbena says: “We feel the time is right for us to create our very own series of major events and show the world that Africa is here to stay at the cutting edge of international fashion. Part of ARISE Magazine’s mission continues to be the promotion of new and established African and African diaspora designers. ARISE Magazine Fashion Week is only the start of our worldwide ambitions.“
The event will end on the night of Sunday 13th March 2011 with the spectacular ARISE Magazine Fashion Awards which will include the South African designer Black Coffee, and an exclusive performance by Tinie Tempah.
The very best of the designers will be invited to participate in the inaugural and annual ARISE Magazine Fashion Gala in New York on September 14th 2011 during New York Fashion Week.

It would be quite a wonderful experience to be a part of it all.
I love Nigerian designers and everything, but they got Laquan Smith and Kurto Momolu too? That’s definitely taking the awareness to another level. I recently saw Nicole Ari Parker become one of the latest African Americans wearing ankara on a red carpet. I expect this will bring even more publicity. Way to go!
They should rename it Nigeria Fashion Week since 90% naijas are representing it. It is definately not africa. It is Nigeria only.

@YeahISaidIt…Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa and Nigerians also make up the largest group of Africans living outside Africa. Why is it a surprise that there would be alot of Nigerian designers..especially for a show taking place in Nigeria and put together by a magazine that is published by a Nigerian newspaper? When it was held in South Africa, they was a fair bit of SA designers in it. I think you’re just looking for something to pick on. Please take your negativity elsewhere.
I can’t wait to see the photos! I met Korto Momolu at an event last year and she seems like such a very nice woman. I love her jewelry and her clothing designs as a matter of fact I’m proud of all the designers attending this prestigious event. I love it even more that we aren’t waiting to be given permission to do anything that will empower our people.
